Summary: A Washington fantasy, full of idealism and fun
Review: Every time I watch this movie (more often now that it is an election year) I am amazed that the implausibility of it doesn't bother me. But it doesn't. Ivan Reitman manages to bring together an impressive group of actors and makes every character on the screen seem real. Kevin Kline is his usual remarkable self, a chameleon playing an idealistic Presidential look-alike swept into national politics. Sigourney Weaver is as warm and interesting as I have ever seen her in movies. Together they are like two children sharing a secret. Watch, for example, the pause at the top of the stairs when they return to the White House after their near-escape.

But my greatest admiration is for Reitman who gives every character in this movie a chance to shine. Charles Grodin being seduced by the promise of bratwurst. Ving Rhames discussing how he looks in a sweater. Ben Kingsley becoming nostalgic about how a shoe salesman became Vice President. Frank Langella humming Hail to the Chief while he forges the president's signature. The timing and subtlety of these touches makes me wonder if this is the same Ivan Reitman who did movies as unsubtle as Ghostbusters!

If national politics is getting you down, this is the perfect antidote. Lovely Washington photography, too. Kevin Kline can be my president any time!

Summary: One of my Favorite Movies
Review: Whenever I'm feeling down about the state of politics and public service in America, I pull out this movie. It's a wonderful film about how a truly caring, sensible person can change things, even today. I couldn't agree more with the previous reviewer. Wonderful acting by everyone involved.

Summary: Idealism fights Cynicism and humorously wins!
Review: This movie has a great plot about liberal idealism without being preachy. The romance is enjoyable, the characterization excellent, and the humor often laugh-out-loud funny. All the actors are terrific, as is the script. I love Kevin Kline, and this is one of my favorite of his many outstanding roles.

Summary: Whimsy & Intrigue in the White House
Review: This movie is one of those gems that quietly grows on you -- each viewing creating anticipation and appreciation for its wit and style. The casting is superb. Kevin Kline doesn't know how to give a bad performance. Frank Langella's brilliant characterization of the ambitious, power-hungry 'man behind the throne' is perfect, and a wonderful contrast to his long-ago role as the cad/seducer in Diary of a Mad Housewife.

This is definitely a movie to buy because it needs to be seen many times. The innumerable funny pearls in this movie alone are worth the price of the DVD. For Minnesotans, one of the slyest gags was Dave's gig early in the moview, imitating the President at the grand opening of Durenberger Motors in his home town. The movie was released around the time that David Durenberger (Minnesota's senior senator) was embroiled in an ethics scandal. A personal favorite moment was the scene where Dave (with the help of his accountant buddy played by Charles Grodin) pares the federal budget to save a homeless shelter for children -- the cabinet members bemusedly participating just like a family sitting around the kitchen table wrestling with its own budget. Priceless.

Summary: Enjoyable
Review: Dave is a truly enjoyable movie starring a very strong cast. Kevin Kline is very good in this movie, as is Sigourney Weaver. Great line from this movie ... "We're walking. We're walking. We're walking AND we're stopping." Guess you have to see it to appreciate it.

Summary: Where Williams, Goldsmith and Horner fear to tread.
Review: It seems that the genre of gentle romantic comedy is one that inspires a stange trepidation in the hearts of the great and good of film composition. It's nice then, to see other lesser mortals such as Mr Newton Howard making such a fantastic job of it.

If you like warm waves of 'feel good' to emanate from your speakers then this score is ideal. OK, so it's a little on the short side but even if you play it twice per sitting you'll still get more originality from it than most other longer CD's. This is definitely a genre standard and a must for any complete soundtrack collection.

By the way,(just for the Brits out there) this is where the theme from the current Barclaycard advert originates. It doesn't feature prominantly but you can clearly hear it in the Main titles.

Summary: This is a fun movie about the presidency, two thumbs up!

Summary: A Great "Blues Buster" Movie
Review: Dave is one of those movies that I watch when I am feeling to cynical about this world. It is a well written movie filled with optimism and innocent idealism. Kevin Kline does a wonderful job of making the political machine account for it's own actions. When you are sick and tired of hearing about Clintons newest scandal, watch "Dave" and feel a little better about the state of the nation.
