Summary: Great Movie, ha!!
Review: This movie wasn't bad, but the ending could have been better! Why do the good guys always have to win? Why couldn't they let the bad guy win for once, especially the way they did it! Parts of this were really funny, other parts, were just [crud] and, I guess it was a little offensive to the people with disabilities! This movie went kinda overboard with that, but it wasn't too bad!! Good acting in it, okay plot and it does have some character to it, but please, don't make another dumb ending like this!! Swordfish was cool, the way Travolta explained everything at the beginning. Good guys don't always have to win, but it's better when they do! But this movie just took it way too far!

Summary: Ja, you betcha it's amusing.
Review: Drop Dead Gorgeous is definitely an amusing flick: it's hard to not laugh at the parodies of both beauty pageant and Midwestern life. There are enough explosions to keep a die-hard action fan happy, too. If you are a fan of low-budget flicks such as Office Space and National Lampoon's Vegas Vacation, this is definitely another movie to check out.However, certain scenes in which a handicapped young man is abused were much more offensive than funny, and that really cut down on my enjoyment of the film.

Summary: Hands Down the best comedy ever made!
Review: Drop Dead Gorgeous is just one of those movies that everybody would love, and only a few actually see it despite nobody ever hearing about it. Playing on so many levels of comedy the movie can be enjoyed by preteens for physical comedy, young adults for the obvious humor and adults of all ages for the subtle remarks made by this fabulous cast. I can tell you that the movie is abrasive and has a certain shock value that some people may find uncomfortable at first. My grandfather is a real prude and doesn't usually like any dark or witty humor but I have never seen him laugh like he did when he saw this movie. My father loves it, my little brother loves it, my mother adores it and I belong to a "cult" with a couple of friends who love this movie too. I have given this a five rating despite the sloppy ending but the first, middle and last half of the ending make up for the floundering wrap up by leaps and bounds.

Summary: Amiable satire of beauty contests
Review: Lona Williams, who is an associate producer of the TV's The Drew Carey Show, wrote the script for Drop Dead Gorgeous. As a former first runner up in the Junior Miss pageant, she seems well qualified to pen a satire about teenage beauty contests. The results, however, are somewhat lacking. Ms. Williams set the movie in a small town in her native Minnesota. With characters similar to those in the Coen brothers' Fargo, the movie furthers the notion that something about the state makes its residents complete eccentrics. Gladys Leeman [Kirstie Alley] is in charge of the local competition for a big pageant sponsered by a cosmetics company. The winner will go on to the state level. A former winner, Gladys does not hid the fact that her daughter, Becky [Denise Richards], is the one to beat. Actually, she means Becky is the one not to beat. There are two girls who are her main competition. One of these is conveniently eliminated when her tractor explodes. This leaves Amber Atkins [Kirsten Durst] as the main rival. Amber is a sweet but ambitious teen, who yearns to grow up to be the next Diane Sawyer. Becky assumes her mother has the contest all sewn up for her, but she underestimates both Amber and fate. The movie is filled with scenes of what goes on, onstage and off, in the somewhat bizarre world of beauty pageants. Some of these are quite funny, especially those which show the contestants displaying their talents - or lack of them. Becky is especially funny. She has been brainwashed by her mother and can respond only as she thinks people expect her to. What she does in the talent competition simply has to be seen to be believed. While Drop Dead Gorgeous works at times, it has several strikes against it. The cast is good, especially Ellen Barkin as Amber's beer-guzzling Mom, but the actors are working with a script that has very little new to say. The story also has a structural problem. The logical climax arrives, then the story meanders along for another thirty minutes, as the winner goes on to the next levels of the pageant. I suppose this was done because the movie is made as a psuedo-documentary. This technique does not help the picture at all, because its makers were unable to bring this idea off smoothly. If it is supposed to be a documentary, it should be free-flowing and spontaneous. Too much of the time, it looks rehearsed and calculated. Drop Dead Gorgeous is a harmeless way to pass part of an evening...

Summary: Hilarious, dark, perfect
Review: Drop Dead Gorgeous is absolutely one of the funniest movies around. Each actor is perfect for his/her role, especially Ellen Barkin and Allison Janney, who are beyond quotable. One stipulation for viewing this movie is that you have to pay attention to every moment, or else you'll miss some crucial, hilarious lines. It's dark, it's politically incorrect, and it's great. Great performances all around. No movie is like it.

Summary: Something lutefisky
Review: Among the local color that you'll learn of in this film is that "lutefisk" is codfish that has been salted and then soaked in lye for several days. And that's only the beginning of all the things fishy or should I say fisky in the little town that is the site of a beauty pageant. The way the pageant goes is a no-holds-barred biting satire that makes this one of the most fun dark comedies in years. But even without all the twists and tweaks and mayhem of the unfolding story there's plenty of riotous humor as well as drama in the contestants themselves. Kirsten Dunst is fabulous as the lead and the town's one resident playing it - well, relatively straight - amidst the lunacy all around her. Her potential as an actress is well showcased in this, the zenith of her career so far. One can only hope to see her acting further blossom. Hopeful it can if she can graduate beyond being stuck in the likes of BRING IT ON, GET OVER IT, and CRAZY/BEAUTIFUL. The other contestants include a colorful array of characters, including Denise Richards, representing the town's snobbiest family, and Brittany Murphy, who was soon after this movie to play the unforgettable Daisy in GIRL, INTERRUPTED. Between thaT role and her role herein, she shows noteworthy diversity as a performer. Also among the contestants are a few actresses I know of only from this movie, but who therein give good reason to wish to see more of them and see their potential further developed. These include Amy Adams as the quintessential "airhead" among the contestants, and Shannon Nelson as a riotously offbeat distant contender. Her story of how she formerly had a German Shepherd but now has a Dachshund is among the zaniest moments one could ask for from a movie's minor chracter. Among still other hoots are the Japanese adaptive parents of still another contestant. Well, enough said by way of preview. Watch and enjoy a movie that is not short on drama and suspense while being above all devastatingly funny.

Review: This is a great spoof on beauty pageants. It is very well written. The comedy is outstanding. The only reason you could not laugh at this show is if you were in a coma.

Review: This is a truly fabulous movie. Set in small town America it is a deliciously wicked black comedy , proving beauty queens are more scheming than they look! Ellen Barkin is on top form as the beer-swilling mother and Kirsten Dunst puts in a good turn as Amber. A special mention also goes out to the badly refridgerated seafood scene, do not watch when eating!

Summary: Good to the Last Drop!
Review: This has got to be one of my all-time favorite dark humor movies! When I first heard of the movie being called a documentary with Kirsten Dunst and Kirsty Alley, I thought, "Oh...this one is going down in the pooper real fast..." But when I sat down to watch it, I couldn't keep from rolling otu of my seat every two seconds from laughter! This is definately going to become a cult classic for future generations!
If you liked "Best in Show" or "Waiting for Guffman" you are going to hit the floor when you see this one!
