Summary: Extremely funny
Review: This is such a funny movie in a dark, twisted, sardonic, demented and cynical sort of way. Will Sasso steals the show as the [mentally challenged] and Mike McShane is so great as his father. Allison Janney is a scream and the whole movie is very much like Best In Show or anything Christopher Guest has done, just not as good. It is extremely crude and extremely funny. What other movie will you find a beauty pageant contestant dancing with a crucifix? Hilarious.

Summary: So Wrong it's funny!
Review: Drop Dead Gorgeous was funny as hell because Denise Richards is straight up evil in this movie. Drop Dead Gorgeous is about a small town in rural Minnesota that is having a beauty contest and it surrounds the rivalry betweem Denise Richards and Kirsten Dunst. Richards is the favorite to win the competition but just to be sure, SOMEONE is picking off the competition one by one in favor of Richards.

Like I said before Denise Richards and her mom (played by Kristy Ally) are evil as hell in this movie. For me that was one of the funniest things about this movie. There's also a lot of physical comedy in this one as well. Dunst also shows her skill as well and shows that she's come a long way since being in Interview With A Vampire. Plus Brittany Murphy is really funny in this one as well.

I took a star off this movie for one reason, "The Minneso-TAH" accent. O.k. me being from MN, we don't all talk like that. You have to go north for that accent. Luckily it's not as bad as FARGO but still, we don't talk like that and it got really annoying after a while. Other than that, a great movie. A definite buy or atleast a rental if you're still unsure about this movie.

Summary: Awesome!
Review: Ok, you kinda have to be in pageants to think it is hilarious. I am in pageants so therefroe me and my pageant friends love it and you will too.

Summary: Frau Farbissina at her very best
Review: The momentum of this movie certainly wanes at the end, but supporting performances by Will Sasso, Brittany Murphy, and whoever plays the dog girl, make this movie and incredibly juvenile laugh-a-minute. Alison Janney (pre-West-Wing) and Ellen Barkin also make a surprisingly delightful comedic pairing.

Summary: Should be a Cult Classic
Review: I'm glad to see other people have discovered this movie. It got really bad reviews when it came out and wasn't a success at the box office. All the reviews compared it unfavorable to another great movie "Smile" though they're not at all similar. And really, "Smile" got bad reviews when it came out. My friends and I saw it and laughed till it hurt, since then we've shown the video to friends from all over and they've all become fans. It was hurt by a really bad marketing scheme that made it look like a teen comedy. It's actually a very smart satire bouyed by excellent performances by the always wonderful Kirsten Dunst, Kyrstie Alley, Ellen Barkin, Allison Janney and Brittany Murphy, excellent supporting work all around and Richards' non-acting used to its best effect ever. I've seen this movie several times now and every time I enjoy it more.

Summary: This is too funny!!
Review: In an attempt to avoid a boring evening, I headed to the closest theater; the only movie playing was Drop Dead Gorgeous. So I said, 'Okay, I'll see it!' I have never regretted that decision. I love dark humor, and this abounds with it. From the hilarious dialects (I took my Minnesotan friends to see it the following week--they laughed so hard they almost peed their pants at the dialect) to the stereotypical pageant characters (anorexics) to the unstereotypical pageant characters (a jock who does farm work?) to Allison Janney's character ("I got some!"), this was a rare comedic treat that had me, my friends, and the other viewers at both viewings rolling in the aisles. And who can forget Ellen Barkin in the wheelchair at the Mt. Rose pageant, all hepped up on pain killers? This was just too funny for words!

Summary: A surprising good black comedy!
Review: From the poster art, all I have ever known about Drop Dead Gorgeous, I have always erroneously believed this to be a chick flick. But I couldn't have been further from the truth.

Taking a mockumentary approach to a small town beauty pageant, this film isn't afraid to shock or offend anyone in its comedic behind the scenes portrayal of the pageant world. Nothing is taboo here, and the bravery of the filmmakers is commendable. Though at times stereotypes such as a mental retarded character do overstep some lines, most of the movie's jokes hit big laughs. Maybe it was because I was expecting a lame chick flick that I like this film so well, but it was a very happy surprise.

The movie's greatest weakness is the ending. After the small town beauty competition climax, the movie seems over, but it keeps going, following the winner to the state, then national tournament. It becomes very anti-climatic. This should have been condensed to brief scenes from the proceeding competitions during the end credits.

Despite this flaw, it's a great time of a movie. Don't be fooled by the deceptive pink cover art. This ain't no chick flick.

Summary: Sheer Torture
Review: I am not sure where all the glowing reviews are coming from, did these people watch this thing? The on-again off-again "Fargo" rip-off accents warned me early this was going to be painful. Other huge negatives: lack of a plot, anorexia humor, it all doesn't add up. This movie seems to be going for the small-town, offbeat mocumentary ambience of truly funny films like "Waiting for Guffman", but fails miserably, there are simply no characters to like and there is none of Christopher Guest's subtlety whatsoever anywhere. Kirstie Alley is more over-the-top here than in her Pier One commercials. Kirsten Dunst does her one-note goody two-shoes stuck with bad people routine. About the only bright spot in this whole mess was Allison Janney, playing against type as a helmet-head trailer trash neighbor. Wow, folks, this is B-A-D.

Summary: Drop Dead Hilarious
Review: If I could give this movie six stars I would. One of my friends introduced me to the movie, and in between gasps over the outrageous (and some would say offensive) things that go on in Mount Rose, I was laughing hysterically.

Perhaps my hometown was a little too much like Mount Rose, but this movie was made all the funnier by the fact that I could identify each of the characters with someone at home. Everyone plays their parts to the hilt, which is good in a movie that is going for over the top, too insane to be true. Everyone puts on their best Minnesota accents, and you can never decide who does the best job, although my vote goes to Loretta, played by Allison Janney. Her man-crazy, alcoholic tendencies are played to perfection, and you'll laugh at her all the more if you know her as CJ from the West Wing.

Don't try to take DDG seriously. It's not supposed to be serious, and there are too many hilarious moments for a person to even become confused. Just watch it, and you'll enjoy it. So far I haven't known a single person to watch it and hate it.
