Summary: A Jam-packed DVD that'll keep you busy after the movie ends!
Review: "Dogma" is the first Kevin Smith film I ever saw. I knew nothing about Clerks, had never heard of Jay and Silent Bob and would have been very confused if you asked me about Mallrats. "Rats in the mall? Gross!" At any rate, I loved this film. Funny but meaningful, controversial and thought provoking, well worth watching over and over again. The chemistry between Affleck and Damon is nicely reminesent of "Good Will Hunting" and the rest of the cast is fabulous to watch. Affleck especially delivers what I believe is the best performance of his career. The only worm in the apple is Fiorintino, who can't act to save her life but luckily there are enough other people to sort of drown her out, or at least distract from the flat and extrodinarily annoying quality of her voice.

Summary: Holy bad!
Review: Kevin Smith is one of those filmakers who will always have a following. People will see (and even say they like) his movies just because it's Kevin Smith -- sort of like George Lucas' fans. I couldn't even finish this movie. And as someone who was raised Catholic, I was looking forward to someone finally ripping on the church. The acting and the dialogue made me wince.

Summary: Too many useless features
Review: Don't get me wrong: Dogma is an hilarious movie that goes to the border on religious situations all the while maintaining some seriousness. The cast is superb, bringing in stars for starring roles and cameos alike. When I found out that Dogma was a coming out in a 2-DVD set I nearly lost it, and when I watched it I nearly lost it for the other reason. Most of the features are incredibly boring. The best parts of the movie were seriously in the movie and there is a big reason why those deleted scenes were left out. The commentary by Kevin Smith et.al. is sometimes funny but mostly gets in the way of the movie. If this comes in a single DVD I would get that so you can enjoy Dogma without having to pay, financially and mentally, for all the extra features.

Review: This movie is witty and hilarious! Sure there are the prerequisite Kevin Smith fart jokes, but that comes with the territory. Linda Fiorentino (MIB) is believable, Chris Rock and Salma Hayek are hilarious, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are clever, Jason Lee (Mallrats, Chasing Amy) is coniving, Alan Rickman (Harry Potter) is sarcastic and Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith (Jay and Silent Bob) are awesome! This movie has tons of cameos--watch for actors from Kevin Smith's other movies, as well as George Carlin and Alanis Morsette.
This movie shows the good and bad of organized religion and makes you think about the meaning of beliefs, faith and ideas. It also shows you that you can't believe everything you hear...you have to use your head.
The DVD I have doesn't have directors commentary, which I wish it did...but I think that there is now a souped up version of this DVD that has deleted scenes and the like.

Summary: Very funny and thought-provoking film.
Review: I am a huge Kevin Smith fan, and this film did not disappoint me at all. It had all the wit and hilarity of Clerks and added a thought-provoking and entertaining storyline. I think besides the startling originality of the screenplay and great dialogue, what makes this film stand out is tremendous performances by a great ensemble cast. I think Affleck, Damon, Lee, Rock, Rickman, Mewes and Smith himself all did wonderful jobs. Fiorentino wasn't nearly as superb as the others, but didn't detract from the movie watching experience.
All of the bit characters were excellent as well.
Whether you are religious or not, there should be nothing in this film that offends you in the least. I highly recommend it to those with open minds.

Summary: Metatron makes this film.
Review: If you just view the scenes that Metatron, "Herald of the Almighty and the Voice of God", is in, the story is less murky. Dogma is irreverent (hooray!) and creative, but it would have benefitted from a more ruthless editor. Some of the scenes seem to be pointless digressions to provide a space for some low 7th grade humor. But if you concentrate on scenes with the testy seraphim, Metatron (superbly played by Alan Rickman), the film holds together really well and has a heart.

Review: I've seen this movie more times than I can count. As a lapsed Catholic, I appreciate the film's serious discussion of religious issues. The fact that Kevin Smith can integrate those discussions with such riotous humor is an admirable feat. The performances, from Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Jay Mewes, Jason Lee, Chris Rock, and others, are fantastic. (My only complaint: Linda Fiorentino is way too deadpan. On the DVD commentary Kevin Smith confesses he wishes he had cast Janeane Garofalo in the lead role; I wish he had, too!) If you are a religious person whose faith is not strong enough to withstand any challenges, by all means, avoid this movie. If, however, you've got an open mind, you'll find a lot to love here.

Summary: Great Film!! Not for the Light Hearted!!
Review: Dogma is another great film from Kevin Smith. I think it's a pinnacle creation. I'm not Catholic, and I don't go to church, so I don't know how I'd feel about this film if I did, but I really enjoyed it. I think it has a lot of guts, and I think Kevin Smith has a lot of guts to do this story. It's all about an angel, that got thrown out of heaven, that'll do anything he has to, to get back in. And he does. I also think that Kevin Smith's choice of God is magnificent. Way to go Kevin. I try to watch this film at least every other month.

Summary: Edgy, Sharp and Fun
Review: Before I watched this movie, I had heard of the legendary Kevin Smith movies, famed for gross jokes and bad language. It was also labeled "blasphemous". Fortunately, I did not let these things deter me from seeing one of the most creative comedies I've seen to date. From the first minute to the last, this movie was charming, bright and original. Instead of a typical gross out movie, or a cutesy romantic comedy, this movie had style and a very very original story. It's message, although it could appear offensive to all religions, it did not set out to attack religion and make a mockery of God. Quite the opposite, there were actually some good messages, such as Serendipty (Selma Hayek) says: "When are you people going to learn? It's not about who's right or wrong. No denomination's nailed it yet, and they never will because they're all too self-righteous to realize that it doesn't matter what you have faith in, just that you have faith." On a lighter note, the performances by each actor were absolutely fabulous. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck deliver powerhouse performances as the two exiled angels trying to sneak back into Heaven, via a loophole in the law. Alan Rickman, Chris Rock and Selma Hayek light up the film from within, in their performances as other Heavenly beings (the voice of god, the 13th (not mentioned in the bible)Apostle and a Muse). And finally, the main three earthly beings that make this movie what it is: Bethany[Linda Fiorentino], Jay[Jason Mewes] and, of course, Silent Bob[the one and only, Kevin Smith]. A truly adorable movie, with edgy humor and a whole-lotta-heart.
