Summary: Soy Beans, Pork Bellies and Laughs!
Review: Dan Ackroyd, slim and sexy Jamie Lee Curtis and wisecracking Eddie Murphy star in a fabulous and hilarious satire about the commodities market. For a bet, Dan Ackroyd is put through hell until he gets his well deserved revenge on the 2 old millionaires who have subjected him to degradation and poverty. I burst out laughing when I saw the scene where Eddie Murphy, pretending to be a legless Vietnam veteran panhandler suddenly jumps up and runs away fron the Police crying, "It's a miracle! I can walk!" Jamie Lee Cutis is sooo sweet and sexy it will make you drool! Dan Ackroyd as the straight man to Eddie Murphy's crazy antics plays the bumbling naive guy who finds he can survive anything an unkind fate throws at him. Yes, it is a cold cruel world when you have no greenbacks and fair weather desert you, but buddy, don't ever give up and things will turn out just fine. I enjoyed this movie and I'm sure you will too if only to ogle Jamie Lee Curtis! Enjoy! Dr. Michael Lim The Travelling Gourmet.

Summary: It can be funny without being crude.
Review: Remember when comedy didnt have to be crude? This is one of those movies. Jamie Lee Curtis, Dan Akroyd, Eddie Murphy.. loved it then Love it now.. even more on DVD. First time I have seen it in Widescreen. It is nice to actually get to see the entire movie.

If you grew up in the 80's you must have this one.

Summary: Best movie ever
Review: ... I have been investing and trading futures for almost 11 years. This movie actually put a name to what I was interested in. When I was 11 my grandfather gave me a gold coin and I would watch the market everyday. As I grew older, I came upon the movie trading places and for the first time I saw something that made sense. Here this old guy comes into the office with a breakfast tray of food and sets it in front of Mr.Murphy. As Mr.Murphy is about to eat it, the old guy tells him to stop, and explains that supply and demand drive all of these items and that you can make money doing it. I was blown away. Stocks, with their P/E ratios, and analyst predictions, had nothing on this.

This movie is exciting and the DVD is even better. It has lots of great extras and it is very funny. You won't be disappointed having this in your collection.

Summary: Randolph and Mortimer stole the show
Review: A memorable and very funny movie. It commenced a life time of "one dollar" bets. Eddie Murphy was great but I think Randolph and Mortimer (Ameche and Bellamy) stole the show.

Summary: Our traditional Christmas flick
Review: Since "Trading Places" first came out on VHS it gets played at my house every Christmas Eve - it is tradition. You won't find a better movie anywhere for pure fun. Ackroyd & Murray play off each other extremely well, Curtis is great, Elliot does deadpan perfectly, and both Bellamy & Ameche have a great time destroying "Winthorp." Buy it!

Summary: total classic
Review: This is honestly the funniest movie I have ever seen, its completely worth owning, By far the greatest Saturday Night Live motion picture out of all of them, & the funniest Comedy of all time,
dont listen to the reviews about the DVD, this is the ORIGINAL THEATRICAL VERSION, the television version includes a couple of deleted scenes incorporated into the film,
Some say it's a bare bones DVD, they're wrong, even if it has no special features, it's not a bare bones DVD, it's a DUAL LAYER DISC filled to the brim with superb digitally mastered superbit picture quality, ANAMORPHIC WIDESCREEN version, & Digital surround sound,

as for the movie.....

It starts out with rich guy WINTHORP (Dan Aykroyd) in his big house in the middle of Philedelphia with his butler COLEMAN, & it is definately as cheezy as cheezy can get, "Your breakfast, sir" as Coleman serves Winthorp in bed with a silly tray that looks like a shoppingcart,

Then of course it goes to the two old fogies, Mortimer Duke, & Randolf Duke's, Huge Mansion out in the middle of the nice country, and it is definately as rich as rich tightwads can get,
that was pretty funny.

Of course you cant forget EDDIE MURPHY's introduction,
"Once you've had a man with no legs, you don't go back"

My evil sense of humor tells me that my favorite part is when Winthorp tries to commit suicide, but the gun wont go off, so he throws it in the trash can & then it goes off.
Which tells us that absolutely nothing is going his way.

The end was great when Billy Ray (Eddie Murphy) & Winthorp make the 2 rich fogies poor, as revenge for what they did to them.

If you dont know this yet, there is kind of a sequel to the movie, It was not advertised as a sequel but there is one sequence in the middle of that film that proves it is such.

It's Coming To Aerica, with Eddie Murphy as the prince. Those 2 old bums that he gave a large wad of cash to, just happened to be the DUKE brothers,
"RANDOLF LOOK", "Were Back!!"

Summary: Fun and passes time
Review: Exceptional actors in a formula fish out of water movie. The title of the movie tells it all. Some perverse stock trader brothers bet that anyone with the correct position and environment can be a success. Standard jokes and predictable ending. Don Ameche did a good job in this movie as one of the brothers ...

Summary: BareBones DVD with MISSING SCENE!
Review: As others have mentioned this DVD is a "bare bones" one with no extra features. For those used to seeing it on TV, though, seeing the original R rated version will let you in on how much was edited for TV.

The shocking part is that this DVD is MISSING a scene always shown on television. When Winthorp (Akroyd) walks into the Duke & Duke offices, everyone tells him good morning, greeting him by name, and he barely manages a response. That's in there. Then later, when Valentine (Murphy) walks into the Duke & Duke offices, everyone ALSO greets him by name, and he enthusiastically greets them in return, (before getting into the elevator). In the DVD, THIS SCENE IS MISSING!

So, this isn't just a bare bones DVD, in one instance you actually end up getting LESS than you normally see on TV! I'm baffled by this...

But, obviously, this is a classic comedy, worth owning. Too bad they don't offer a beefier DVD.

Summary: Billy Ray Valentine, Capricorn!
Review: Outrageous and funny! A must have for your comedy collection!

Summary: One of the All-Time Greatest Comedies...
Review: Eddie Murphy is at the top of his game in Trading Places. This was before his career exploded and he started believing his own hype. Dan Akroyd is hilarious as Louis Winthorp, a pampered, spoiled Ivy League Lawyer who is trying hard to make partner at his firm, Duke & Duke. The Dukes, Randolph (played by Ralph Bellamy) and Mortimer (Don Ameche) are the real scene stealers in this film and provide the plot for the film when Randolph bets his brother Mortimer $1.00 that he can switch Winthorp with any street hood and have him succeed. Heredity or Environment? Well, the results are pee your pants funny. Eddie Murphy's character Billy Ray Valentine is a street wise hustler with an aserbic wit and tongue. Jamie Lee Curtis plays Winthorp's unlikely love interest (she's a prostitute) and she goes topless which is worth the price of admission alone. Anyway, this is a must own dvd and among the best comedies ever made. Highly Recommended.
