Summary: He didnt really have one film that was better than the other
Review: Kubrick is most famous for his science fiction masterpiece 2001: a space odyssey. yet i have to pose a question for his loyal fans. is it his best film? before you answer you must take into account what makes up a great Kubrick film; humor, violence, character development, and most importantly his flare for ingenious camera work and lighting. personally, i think Kubrick movies are made up of three things which make his movies popular as well as successful. one: his camera work, two: his disturbing and/or haunting images and three: my personal fav, the endings or climaxes of his films. if you really look at all of his movies, what is it that really makes his films so desirable? it is the fact that we are going to see something on that screen that will make us think, put us in awe, make us uncomfortable, and most importantly we will see something that no other director has been given the power to show. that last statement actually makes alot of sense, seriously, who in the early 70's could have put a movie like A CLOCKWORK ORANGE into American theatres? only Kubrick. any other name and WB would have laughed them out the door. so lets talk about a CLOCKWORK ORANGE. a CLOCKWORK ORANGE is built entirely on frightening and disturbing images, nothing more nothing less. if it werent for the untarnished camera work and the X rated and disturbing scenes this movie would have flopped, because personally a person going to jail for murder and rape is not an intersting story in and of it self. but that is where Kubrick put his touch, this movie is one of the greatest films ever made, due to the shocking images and the camera work. oh..and lets not forget the great soundtrack, that is also a huge part of the success. it is funny because all of Kubricks films have the same outline of success. he was famous because he would show things that noone else would show. cut and dried that was the foundation for his success. there is one thing that really makes me angry when someone talks about Kubrick. they call him a genious..well that can be argued..but the thing that i cant get out of my mind is the fact that he based every movie on one or two scenes of "shock" which in turn would be on the viewers mind the entirety of the film. so in the parts that were slow, you were still thinking of that or those scenes in which you had just viewed and pondering how or why anyone would put that in a movie. he was the greatest shock director, who only did one horror flick. there are a couple of films that Kubrick did that really didnt have the one or two shocks. those could argueably be his best films. Dr. Strangelove is definitely one of them. the movie is hilarious and darkly disturbing. and has one of the most nerve numbing endings in movie history. a SPACE ODYSSEY is his hands down masterpiece, but personally not my favorite Kubrick film. why you say? the G rating. really the only thing that kept me glued to the screen was the phenomonal special effects. i personally found the space travel scene towards the end fairly boring. but the highlight of the movie was HAL 9000. maybe the most creepy AI the film industry has ever seen and along with the star child climax ending this movie really made me think, which i love. a definite masterpiece, one of the 10 greatest movies ever made. i dont have enough time to write everything i have to say. but to end this, Kubrick is one of the greatest directors the world has seen. in my opinion, everyone of his movies are great, everything about them is unique. i havent seen a movies that caused more controversy. which is what i want to see. something that i havent seen before. i also would like to state that the only movie that recently has came out that could even come close to a Kubrick film, is AMERICAN PSYCHO. that movie is in the vein of Kubrick films, perhaps we will see more like it. but i doubt anyone will come close to Kubricks prowess.

Summary: The Fall of Man
Review: I, being a huge Kubrick fan, really enjoyed this version of the DVD Dr. Strangelove. the original release didn't have any of the extras contained on the disk. There are two documentaries: 1.)a short doc. on Kubrick's films for the early years of "Day of the Fight" and "Fear and Desire" upto his masterpiece "Paths of Glory". The other documentary is about the production of Stangelove, very interesting tid-bits on how the master worked.
As for the film itself, it is in tip-top shape from video to audio, no complaints from me. If you're a Kubrick fan this disk is excellent.

Review: this movie is really really good.this movie shows the paranoia of the late 40's and 50's and the rest of the coldwar era for that matter perfectly! the charater dr strangelove is hilarious as well! i loved this movie so much. i bought this video years ago, back when i didn't buy many videos, so you know it has to be good if i bought it back then :-)

Summary: Timeless Black Comedy
Review: This is not going to be appreciated by most modern viewers. They would watch the whole time and not laugh once, then dismiss the film as some other old, lame film. That would be a travesty, because this movie is hillarious and monumental. Its comedic strength is not in gags, but in its dead-on observations of Cold War paranoia. It has some subtle and not-so-subtle observations, and the funniest plot device of all time, the Doomsday Machine. A comedy for intellectuals and historians, and me! Kubrick doesn't insult your intelligence, like modern comedy movies like American Pie and Saving Silverman, but instead keeps the humor high-brow and abundant. Definitely not for all audiences, especially if you loved the previously mentioned two films.

Review: I've been told that this movie is good mixture between sarcasm and comedy. When I bought it and I got a chance to watch I really loved it. It is a movie that can stay in the collection just because you can watch it many times and it is interesting.

Review: This is the greatest black comedy ever and one of Stanley Kubricks best! If you like Kubrick films and you haven't seen this, you'll love it! But beware, this, as all Kubrick films, is not for everyone. I admit, some parts drag on a little bit but this is surely a classic (remember the clip of Slim Pickens riding the bomb?)!

Review: This outstanding film makes a good follow-up to FAIL-SAFE which came out at the same time, looking at a very similar scenario but in a chilling, dramatic fashion. Of course, if you're a masochist, you could view this first. Highly recommended, chock full of great lines, hopefully the deleted "pie fight" sequence will surface some day.

Summary: One of our Generals.....well, he went a little funny....
Review: It is so easy to review great movies. All I have to say is see one of the best movies ever made. It influenced an entire generation of filmgoers and film-makers. If you think this material is dated, just think "missle defense shield" and remember that several thousand nuclear warheads are still targeted on us and they are in the control of a country that seems, at times, on the verge of being out-of-control. We are still in the grip of the madness of nuclear weapons and the fraility of human beings who create and control them. That such a serious topic could ever be the basis for one of the funniest movies ever made is still staggeringly ironic. This directorial tour-de-force, by itself, insures Kubrick's name will always be in the pantheon of world-class artists. It is so brilliantly photographed and composed, and it is so economical! It tells a big story deftly and surely, without a missed note. Peter Sellers is superb in 3 roles. Absolutely on the mark as President Muffley, Group Captain Mandrake, and, of course, the title's namesake, the misbegotten Dr.Strangelove with the unrepentant Nazi arm with a mind of its own. The other great performance is Sterling Hayden as Gen. Jack D. Ripper, followed closely by Slim Pickens as Col. "King" Kong. I don't believe time has been as kind to George C. Scott's Gen. Buck Turgidson. I love Scott as an actor, and it is a good comic performance, but it borders too much on slapstick and edges awfully close to over-the-top. When you compare it to Seller's economy and precision (yes, even as Strangelove...it's a controlled performance) and Hayden's dead-on, deadpan delivery I think Scott's performance is revealed as more mannered & superficial. But, a minor digression from a wonderful cast and film, and a matter of taste. One of the all-time great comedies about the end of the world! What more is there to say? Just see it! And, if you have already seen it, see it again. It is a timeless Classic! And by all means, let's make sure there is never a mineshaft gap!

Review: Perhaps no film defined the insanity of the Cold War and so-called Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD--how apropos) than this groundbreaking Stanley Kubrick masterpiece. It is THE ultimate satire on the most nerve-wracking forty years of world history. When a deranged general named (appropriately enough) Jack D. Ripper launches a pre-emptive nuclear strike on the Soviets to stop them from sapping and impurifying "all of our precious bodily fluids", wild chaos breaks out. Kubrick, always cynical about political systems (especially America), goes all-out to absolutely throttle America's notions about war and the painfully pointless differences between capitalism and Communism. Peter Sellers excels in three fine roles--as the Nazi braintrust Dr. Strangelove, as President Merkin Muffley, and RAF officer Lionel Mandrake. George C. Scott is hideously hilarious as a right-wing general whose predictions of "no more than ten to twenty million killed" sound horribly unrealistic. Keenan Wynn is also good as a misguided soldier who shoots out a vending machine so that Mandrake can make the all-important call to the Pentagon but tells him "You're gonna have to answer to the Coca-Cola company!" And Slim Pickens has the defining moment in Cold War political films as the pilot who rides his 20-megaton bomb to Doomsday. Though the Cold War may now be only a footnote in history, DR. STRANGELOVE still remains one of the most cutting movies of the time. It certainly won't appeal to the Rush Limbaugh/right-wing set because it is precisely their points of view that the apolitical Kubrick is skewering. But for those who appreciate comedy that is both cutting and even chilling, this sharp, stinging political satire is the ticket by a mile!
