Summary: Great Movie But I want more from a DVD
Review: This is probably the best Emma adaptation out there (and yes, I did see the Paltrow version). Fun to watch again and again. One quibble is that the DVD doesn't have any "extras". Hopefully, this one will get re-released soon with some more material.

Summary: ONE OF THE BEST COMEDIES EVER!!
Review: Alicia Silverstone became an international celebrity with her starring role as Cher in "Clueless". Before that, she was pretty much known as the Aerosmith video girl who was in a couple of forgettable movies. Regardless of what your personal opinion is of Alicia's acting abilities, you have to admit that she pulled off this role flawlessly. It certainly helped that she had an equally amazing co-star in Stacey Dash. After seeing her in "Mo' Money" I had a feeling that she was going to be a pretty big star. It's sad to see that her career after this film has so far consisted of mostly doing the "Clueless" TV series. Brittany Murphy, Paul Rudd and the ever entertaining Wallace Shawn were also standouts. Amy Heckerling outdid herself by creating a wonderfully sharp and funny script. "Clueless" is so much more than your typical spoiled kids in high school routine which has been tirelessly done. It contains standout characters with distinct personalities. It also took a chance by playing down the sex aspect. So many teenage movies are simply about guys trying to get into girls' pants by any means necessary. Sure, this flick has its share of flirting and sexual tension. However, it handles it with a charm and humorous edge that had never been done before. "Clueless" set a new standard for high school comedies. The droll humor and extremely memorable dialogue took a lot of thought to come up with. There is no "filler" in this movie. No cookie cutters were used. What was created was a truly hysterical and even heartwarming film which has yet to be matched.

Summary: Jane Austen Fan Who Liked Clueless
Review: It's not my absolute favorite movie but I enjoyed it and yes maybe the teen characters are portrayed in a steriotypical way as some reviewers have said and Cher is an airhead but that is one of the reasons the movie is funny, you can laugh at her being kind of an airhead and a bit shallow but underneath it all she is a sweet caring girl. Though I preferred the movie Emma starring Gyneth Paltrow I think Clueless was enjoyable to watch and did have some funny moments and I guess I just liked the tongue-in-cheek humor in this spoof.

Review: It's much better than I expected.
Indeed it's a girlie show.But the story is heart warming. Girls performances are natural. I felt most of the flaws negligible.
There is, however, one thing I have to complain about. One Asian girl in the high school wears clothes which looks like 3 or 5 years old children's. And her hair style is the same. Why should Asians be treated in such a way? I can't believe it!!

Review: This has been my favorite movie since I was like 12 years old, and I am many years past that now! I have, without a doubt in my mind, viewed this movie over 100 times! I know it line-for-line, and I have NEVER tired of watching it over and over again! It is so light-hearted and hilarious. It is a totally relaxing movie! Cher is 100 percent the typical Beverly Hills girl, and she totally goes off in all different directions on her path to...I'd like to say...self realization? It is such a cute movie, I have obviously been addicted from the start. Do not pass this one up. You have no idea the splendor that you would miss!

Review: Nobody expected much from this little teen comedy about rich girls in Beverly Hills when it was released back in 1995. The film, which is loosely based on Jane Austen's "Emma", is about rich girl Cher(wonderfully played by Alicia Silverstone)who sets out to help relationships in her friends' lives and whoever else. The reason is to hide the fact that she herself is lonely. She doesn't have that special someone. The film was stylishly and sharply directed by veteran director Amy Heckerling. She also did "National Lampoon's European Vacation", "Fast Times At Ridgemont High", and "Look Who's Talking". The writing is quick, hip, clever, sharp, and funny. The young actors are all very good and deliver the lines the way they should be delivered. A good cast of young actors. Brittany Murphy, as the fashion victim Silverstone makes over, is a real stand out. Veteran character actor Dan Hedaya plays Alicia's gruff, but well meaning, father. The movie is very colorful. The actors seemed to really take hold of their roles and just have fun with it. It really comes across on screen. The movie makes fun of all the sayings and style of the time, but it's never vulgar or in your face. It plays it with sweet charm. A running joke through the film is that characters are named after music stars. Cher, Dionne, Elton. You get the picture. Stacey Dash, as Dionne, is a real find. Talk about gorgeous!. The movie turned into a surprise hit, both critical and box office wise. It spawned a pretty forgettable T.V. series. Nice movie.

Summary: As bad as the tv show
Review: This movie is awful I can't believe when they released it they decided to make movie well they did it the Same to Sabrina the Teenage Witch now runnning there 2000-2001 season but that's different Sabrina did a great job but this I can't stand Clueless is totally stupid the story dump the actors are dumb the whole story is dumb take my advice and watch Sabrina everyday on tv instead of Clueless cause I'm telling you the movie is just as dumb as the show don't get this.

Review: Attempts to Fracture Social Stratifications: The Highbury Community and a Beverly Hills High school "Clueless" and Jane Austen's novel Emma have similar themes. There is one theme that stands out; the protagonists of these works share the same characteristics. Cher and Emma are intelligent teenage girls, who have deceased mothers, live at home with their overprotective fathers, and like to match make in their communities. The social classes in the communities of "Clueless" and Emma have a particular order. Cher's community is a Beverly Hills High school, which consists of cliques: the skaters who wear flannel, a signature of the lower class. In comparison, the preps don expensive clothing and are a part of the upper class, who engage in modern high culture activities (such as having nose job operations). In Emma, the Highbury's elite take part in activities that are associated with the high culture in Edwardian times: charades and afternoon picnics. The remaining people in the community, who do not engage in these activities, are considered farmers in the novel, members of the lower class. Although the main factors that differentiate these social classes are wealth and career status, Cher and Emma use matchmaking as a means to reconfigure the social classes. Cher and Emma decide to pair girls with boys who have upper class status; however, the girls do not have the same social ranking as the boys.
In the movie, Cher tries to pair Tai with Elton. When Tai is introduced, a girl comments about her attire being similar to a farmer. In effect, this observation implies that Tai belongs to a specific category; Tai is a part of the lower social class. Cher is not aware of this; Cher does not have knowledge of Tai's background. Cher considers Tai to be an outsider, who does not belong to any social class. Cher wants to assimilate Tai into her class. In order for Tai to be accepted into the higher social class, Tai must date someone in that class. Tai has a yearning for Travis, who is apart of her lower class as well, but Cher brainwashes Tai to have affectionate toward Elton. Cher uses two situations in attempt to pair Tai and Elton; however, she is not successful. As Cher takes a picture of Tai in front of a water fountain, Cher speaks fondly of Tai. By photographing Tai, Cher wants Elton to consider Tai to be a desirable, single girl. When Cher leaves the party, Elton and Tai meet to arrange who is going to go home with whom. Cher insists that Elton rides with Tai, but Elton chooses to go home with Cher. Despite Cher's attempts, Elton does not want to date Tai. While Elton is driving, he reveals his feelings about Cher's matchmaking: "Do you know who my father is? Tai and me don't make any sense. You and I make sense." Elton implies that Cher and he can be a couple because each has the same social status: fathers who have prestigious jobs and wealth. Thus, Tai must date someone who has the same social ranking as her, such as Travis, the "skate rat." Emma wants Harriet Smith to date Mr. Elton in order to improve her social identity in Highbury. Emma augments Harriet image of Mr. Elton, so she will desire Elton. Harriet Smith originally liked Mr. Martin, a farmer that she planned to marry. But Mr. Martin's proposal is intervened by Emma, who decides that Harriet Smith should have Mr. Elton as a suitor. Desiring to be with Mr. Elton is not an option for Harriet Smith; Harriet Smith is set into a lower social class.
Emma uses particular settings to make Harriet Smith appear desirable; however, Mr. Elton does not understand Emma's objective. As Emma draws Harriet Smith, Emma extols Harriet Smith's facial features, so Mr. Elton can become aroused and gain an interest for Harriet Smith. Mr. Elton thinks that Emma is flirting with him. Mr. Elton decides to take a ride to London because he wants to frame the drawing for Emma. Emma misconstrues Mr. Elton's favor; Emma thinks that Mr. Elton is making the trek to London to show affection for Harriet Smith. On the contrary, Mr. Elton did the favor for Emma. Emma considers her plan to be successful. As Emma, Harriet, and Mr. Elton are about to depart for home, Emma insists that Mr. Elton rides with Harriet. Mr. Elton opts to ride with Emma instead. As the carriage plods through the snow, Mr. Elton reveals his feelings about Harriet Smith: Every body has their level: but as for myself, I am not, I think, quite so much at a loss I need not so totally despair of an equal alliance, as to be addressing myself to Miss Smith! - No, madam, my visits to Hartfield have been for yourself; and the encouragement I received (122).
The evidence proves that Cher and Emma try to blend social classes in their communities but are not successful. The characters and scenes in these works are interchangeable with a few variations. Tai is a modern adaptation of Harriet Smith as well as Travis and Mr. Martin. Also, Elton and Mr. Elton are the obvious adaptations. Besides the characters, Emma's drawing is replaced with Cher's camera. The scenes with the carriages are replaced with automobiles.
