Summary: As Funny As Falling On Your Arse In The Snow
Review: Horrendously UNfunny comedy of the 1990's.You can practically feel the sweat coming off the brow of the the various cast members as they try so very hard for a decent laugh. It's like watching an unsexy person trying to be attractive. Reminded me of a very bad film school student's attempt at making a film (a student who completely lacks promise). Even of it was on TV & there was absolutely nothing else to do, I'd rather stand at the window & watch the traffic.

Review: I stumbled on this film because of my fascination (ok crush)with Liev Schreiber. What a great movie. Who would have thought that a movie about chasing after a "might be cheating" husband would be so entertaining. I love the continuing story of the novel about the Dog Head Man that Schreiber's character is telling. This is a fun and sometime sad movie. Try it out one Saturday night.

Summary: A true life family experience.
Review: I think this movie was one of the better movies I have ever seen in my life. The charecters were well thought out, and very beautifully acted. The actors were all very consistent and were very believable! The story was almost flawless, and I must say I would recommend this to my mother right on down to a person on the street.

Summary: great cast but slow story, no more than slightly amusing
Review: I'm afraid I had a different experience than most of the other reviewers so far on The Daytrippers. The movie has a great cast who have certainly proven their abilities in other films. But Daytrippers seemed to just do a basic setup for a road trip, then the roadtrip, then the confrontation/surprise at the end. Along the way we get to listen to some normal or eccentric family members arguing and talking (much like real life). But not much in the way of storyline or humor. A few smiles, no laughs, little plot. Some of the characters may remind you of people you know or relatives which could make it funnier.

Summary: Funny, non-action suspense story...
Review: Is he cheating on her, or isn't he? Hope Davis (Mumford, Next Stop Wonderland) plays a young wife who inadvertantly discovers a letter in her husband Stanley Tucci's jacket pocket. The letter implies the husband may have a love interest outside his marriage. Ms. Davis inadvertantly informs a family member who lets the cat out of the bag to other family members and soon the whole family is involved and a judgement is reached that they will pile into the family car and drive to New York City for the day on the off chance they can "catch him in the act" of being unfaithful. The action in this film consists of two conversations. The first conversation involves the decision to drive to New York for the day, the second takes place in the car on the trip into the city and afterward in New York. I wondered if the story wasn't originally a play, since it was heavy on (very good) dialogue and the scene changes were limited. I knew only two of the actors when I saw the film in the theatre--Ann Meara, who plays the mom and is a wonderful, overbearing, interfering mother looking after her chick. I believe in "real life" she is Ben Stiller's mom (Something About Mary) and Jerry Stiller's wife (King of Hearts on TV). Ann and Jerry were a comedy team on the TV variety shows in the 1970's--and, Campbell Scott (George C. Scott's son). Campbell Scott is such a good actor--and such a sleazy guy in this film you love to hate him. Like other productions involving the talents of Stanly Tucci and Campbell Scott: "Big Night", "The Imposters", and "The Spanish Prisoner", the film is low budget (sparse settings)+ wonderfully witty dialogue + stylish actors and is supremely well done. Not as many actors as "Big Night" and not as much slapstick comedy as "The Imposters" but it has a betrayal of sorts somewhat like the "The Spanish Prisoner."

Summary: Daytrippers. . . One of my favorite films from 1996
Review: Poor Eliza, played Hope Davis, finds a supposed love letter addressed to her husband Louis, played by Stanley Tucci. Frantic, she runs to her family for help on how to handle the situation. Her mother, played by Ann Meara decides that she should confront her husband face to face. Eliza, with her parents, sister(Parker Posey) and sister's boyfriend(Liev Schrieber)in tow, decide to go into New York to confront her husband about the letter. Unfortunately, he's not at work and the family spends the rest of the day tracking him down. This is a great film that examines the relationships between husband and wife, child and parent and boyfriend and girlfriend. Ann Meara does a wonderful job as the controlling and nagging mother. Parker Posey is fun, as always and Hope Davis gives a terrific, yet sad portrayal of Eliza.
The best part of the movie is it's realistic dialogue, it doesn't feel scripted at all. This is one of my favorite films and would highly recommend to anyone who is a fan of Parker Posey and Hope Davis.

Summary: an entertaining and complex film
Review: THE DAYTRIPPERS follows the classic "hero takes a journey": format...only this time it's "hero and her entire family take a journey". There are humorous and unexpected moments. The writer/director keep the focus of the film straight and true...this is a search-for-truth quest, and the quest won't be resolved for the characters until it is simultaneously resolved for the viewer. Greg Mottolla, in his first feature film since Columbia Film School, does a wonderful job. I hope he keeps up the good work and makes lots more independent, character/plot driven movies like this one.

Review: The Daytrippers is a really cool offbeat movie. The cast is brilliant, especially Hope Davis. This film is really funny, and true to life.
