Summary: Girl Raunch comedy-- A new genre?
Review: This could be a new genre-- Girl Raunch Comedy. It has it's funny moments and it is apparent that the three stars-- Cameron Diaz, Christina Applegate and Selma Blair-- have a great time doing this movie, it was not quite what I expected. This was one of those days I went to see a film with my 21 year old daughter, home from college for the weekend. I'm not sure if was Cameron Diaz's "going down" dream scene, or Selma Blair's Pierced Penis caught on her tonsils scene when I realized the big oops-- this was not the cute girls movie to take my adult daughter to. My biggest surprise and pleasure was seeing Christina Applegate. She was great-- still with the high energy and sexual edge, but more grown up, carrying adult dialogue brilliantly. I'm looking forward to see her in a wider range of roles. She reminded me a bit of Kate Jackson of Charlie's Angels. There were plenty of laughs. The montage scene bored the [heck] out of me. They could have shot it and included it as an option in the DVD. I did recommend this to some friends who just love raunch. This couple can't hold a conversation without adding sexual innuendo or blatant sexual content every thirty seconds. Another couple we know told us they walked out less than halfway through the flick. It's that raunchy and tasteless. But it was funny. If you like the Farrelly brothers or the kind of humor you see with Adam Sandler, you'll probably enjoy this.

Review: This movie was great. My husband took me to see it and I haven't laughed that hard in sooo long. We enjoyed it so much we have been rehashing it over and over since we saw it. Cameron, Christina and Selma were EXCELLENT!!!

Review: Before one ventures to theaters to see Cameron Diaz's latest turn in "The Sweetest Thing," one thing must be made clear: the light-hearted romantic comedy you saw in the film's previews speaks whispers of what the movie actually is. An awkward combination of girl-power antics, slapstick shenanigans and gross-out humor ranging from "bust your gut" hilarious to "is she doing what I think she's doing?" weird, the film surprises in that it's actually quite funny despite its lack of something more fully developed. Sporty pixie Diaz plays Christina, a love-'em-and-leave-'em go-getter who suffers from a lack of committment to relationships. She has two close friends: Courtney (Christina Applegate), a feisty divorce lawyer who harps on Christina for being lonely, and Jane (Selma Blair), who is undergoing a relationship crisis which lands them at a techno club, where the trouble begins. Of course, the movie has already hit some troublesome spots of its own. There's the usual cliches of characters who hold down high-paying jobs they are never seen working at, that which provides them with tasteful, high-class living quarters and the ability to party all night long. And, in times of strife, they all stick together, forming that patented girl power stronghold that has been seen in so many movies before this one, and done better, I must say. The story gets its focus when Christina crosses paths with Peter (Thomas Jane), an out-of-towner having one last night out before his brother's wedding the following day. After a rocky introduction, the two obviously become smitten, but part ways, leaving Diaz wondering what it would be like if she just took a chance for once. Courtney comes up with the perfect answer: travel three hours to Peter's brother's wedding to get another chance to talk to him. This is where the movie turns into a mad-cap road trip replete with a substantial dosage of toitet humor (literally!), gags involving flying, maggot-covered leftovers that careen into their windshield, and even a sequence of Diaz and Applegate dancing around in little more than panties and bras to a song from their childhood, providing for one of those female frienship bonding moments the movie keeps injecting whenever it feels the need for a shot of humanity. The events that take place when they arrive at the wedding are not unforeseen (if you've seen the previews, everything is pretty much easy to follow), and once it's all over, it feels as if its only just begun. The comedic gags are more weird than shocking; one doesn't exactly expect to see Applegate's character actually using a urinal in the men's bathroom, nor does one ever really see a gag involving Aerosmith's "Don't Wanna Miss a Thing," tonsils, and pierced genitals coming their way. Imagine my surprise when all of this jumbled, at times messy material, actually delivers real belly laughs at the expense of its hair-brained characters and enthusiastic cast. Diaz, Applegate, and Blair inhabit characters who aren't completely developed, but their ability to cast caution to the wind and just revel in the spirit of the movie is amusing and enlightening. There were times when I found myself wanting something more out of the humor, and then there were moments of sheer lunacy and comedic perfection that had me in tears. These elements may prove to be the only sweet aspect of "The Sweetest Thing," but for the most part, they're more than enough. Like last month's "Sorority Boys," this film proves nothing about relationships, love, or even moviemaking, but the good news is, it doesn't have to.

Review: if this was any better i would have put it on my excellent films list. first of all this is my favorite movie. i went to this expecting sorority boys esque comedy but trust me after seing this thats an one star film and this is a five star film. it starts with her exs telling everything about dating her. cameron diaz is lovely and her friends are hotties too. first time selma blair has ever been on my hot list. u see she looked alot like my crush with her long hair. now its short and very pretty. christina applegates like my celeb crush and has been since her first film. i always like cameron diaz. i also thought thomas jane was funny as her crush. now heres the story. the 3 girls are at a bar and cameron grabs an guys ...not knowing what will happen. hes kind of a jerk at first then after than when shes coming out of the bathroom she spills his drink and a friendship starts. the bad news we find out 15 minutes later. hes engaged to get married. luckilly his girlfriend calls it off. he goes to find cameron and the ends the same thing as the begginning without the exs just her housband.

Summary: A Really Great Time
Review: If you noticed, most of the negative reviews of this movie were written by men. I have to tell you, my friends and I really enjoyed it. We laughed all the way through. I refuse to say that this was a "chick-flick," but there were many jokes that only someone who has tried to walk on grass with spiked heels would understand. It definitely had a few scenes that were...hmmm...eyebrow raising. But I go to the movies to have fun and that is what we got.

Review: This movie is so cool! I won't say anything about it but you gotta see it! Cameron does such a good job in it. You could tell how she feels in the expression in her face! There are a lot of funny scenes as you go through the movie so i recomend it to you. It's like American pie and the wedding planner mixed up together but you know, it turns out to be a cute movie!

Summary: "Raunchy chick humor" at its most predictable...
Review: I could have written this script. If I had my sorority sisters from my long-gone college years to help me out, we could have written it one hundred times better. Yes, most girls have a nasty sense of humor that would make guys squirm if we ever gave them an opportunity to witness it. However, this movie captures more of the empty, desperate moments in between those episodes than the essence of female humor. It's not that raunchy, and it's not that funny. It's actually more of a sexually frustrated, ninety minute chase scene. Further, many of the antics are cheesy and somewhat contrived. If I didn't know better, I would have guessed the script writer was a man. That's not to say The Sweetest Thing doesn't have its merits. There were one or two (yes, just one or two) conversations revealing insights about the female psyche that guys might find useful... and the film has its funny moments: During one scene involving an elephant costume I laughed harder than I have in months. I also had no idea Christina Applegate could act; yet her talent carried this film more than anyone else's (I found Cameron Diaz somewhat annoying). Overall this is not a remarkable cast or screenplay; but I must admit I had some fun. What's the sweetest thing about this movie? I left the theatre with a new appreciation for just how funny my own female bonding antics had actually been... That kind of validation was worth the price of a ticket.

Summary: Sweetest Thing should have been called "Sweetest Thang!"
Review: I Like Cameron Diaz and went to see the movie "Sweetest Thing". Overall, it is no "There's Soemthing About Mary" or "Charlie's Angels" but I was still hanging in there no matter what. Diaz is "Christina" who is a SF Ad Exec and is also a love em and dump em gal. If the relationship gets waay to serious its her motto to dump them and move on not thinking of the emotional and psychological damage she is doing to these poor guys she is leaving behind. Enter Christina Applegate is "Courtney" her best bud and partner in crime. The movie starts off with "Diaz" shaking her hips like she was J-Lo. But then again any women would not be doing that while walking up a steep street in San Francisco. Selma Blair is "Jane" Diaz's roomie. Blair is dumped by her BF and Diaz/Applegate set out for the town to cheer Blair up at their favorite club hangout. Enter Thomas Jane who gets immediately groped by Diaz. Diaz and Jane don't hit it off at first but they manage to break the awkwardness between them. Jane leaves and mentions a wedding which Diaz and Applegate make a road trip to attend. My favortie scene is the car scene where Applegate is teasing the biker guy. I wont go into too much detail here but I was laughing myself out of my seat. If Sweetest Thing did'nt try to be funny the movie in my opinion would have been enjoyable I say.

Summary: I feel sorry for the youth of America.
Review: I will start out by saying that I did not pay to see this film. I paid to see Y Tu Mamma Tambien, and then went into The Sweetest Thing - because I wanted to see what a 1.75 million dollar screenplay looked like. Well, it looked like the kind of bad B-movie that I used to rent for fun back in the eighties. No story, no plot, no real humor and a lot of bad unbelievable dialogue. The main differance was that this film had a big star like Cameron Diaz instead of someone like Linnea Quigley or PJ Soles - and it was presented as A-level entertainment for theaters instead of a B-movie rental. I will say this. It was filmed just like a B-movie. It had terrible lighting (did they even have a gaffer on this mess) and editing, and Cameron Diaz is looking pretty used up like a lot B-movie attresses. Feel free to use a filter on the lens when your actors stay out all night partying - it's good for them and us. I advise young people to stop going to the movies. Just stay home and rent some old films to see what story and plot can do for a film. I watched this film on Friday afternnon and I thought I was there for a least a week. On Saturday night, I took in a screening of Billy Wilder's Witness For The Prosecution and the time just flew by - full of laughs, twists and great acting. What a difference a day makes as the song goes. One more thing. I have seen the American Pie movies that many people say started this whole gross out comedy trend (along with Something About Mary). The difference between those movies and The Sweetest Thing is a simple one. The makers of the American Pie movies like their characters, and they like the world they have created. (The most obvious reference points for those movies are Diner and American Graffiti.) The makers of the Sweetest Thing seem to hate the world and the people in it and it shows. It is cynical, manipulative and heartless. And it's boring to boot.

Summary: Incredibly Entertaining
Review: Suprisingly, this movie is equally entertaining for all girl groups / all guy groups / or mixed crowds. I went with a female friend of mine and we absolutely rolled at some of the scenes in the movie. Obviously, it's a little raunchier than most "chick flicks," but it also comes a lot closer to showing what some girls really are like behind closed doors - when only the gals are around. Some scenes may be a bit much for some people, but if you're into comedy with an edge, it's a good find.
