Summary: Not great, but not a complete disaster
Review: This movie kept me interested for the most part, but it moved way too fast throughout the plot. There was no resting on any one event or calming down whenever the "love" came into it. If you like movies that concentrate on the love between two people that have just met this movie may not be the best choice for you. However, if you like movies where the little kids in the movie are the best characters this movie would be perfect because the kid who plays JLO's son really made an impact in this one!

Summary: Clothes make the maid
Review: Jennifer Lopez stars in a funny and unlooking Cinderella story on a maid who works at the Enbarisin Hotel. Now she falls inlove with a man named Chris Marshall (Fienes) who was going to run for senator. I saw this movie on the plane. It was an adorable movie. Jennifer Lopez says to Chris that her name is Mary. She soon gets into trouble for stealing clothes. At the end the dream comes true. She gets married with Chris Marshall. You should see this movie if you really like Jennifer Lopez. This movie is a must-see Lopez fan.

Summary: Stay Away From This Movie
Review: This has got to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I rented it last week with my roomates because we enjoy chick flicks, but this was just painful. There are no funny moments in it and the story is such a TIRED ripoff of Pretty Woman. Even the fairy godfather Hector Elizondo and the corrupt Jason Alexander characters are copied in this movie (by Bob Haskett and Stanely Tucci respectively).

The main problem with this movie is that the 2 leads, Lopez and Fiennes have absolutely no onscreen chemistry. Fieness makes an attempt to have the audience believe he is smitten with Lopez's character, but not once to we believe she has the slightest interest in him.

I give this movie 2 stars however because the young actor who plays J Lo's son is absolutely adorable and steals every scene he's in. It's too bad the story couldn't center around him.

Summary: Contrived Fluff
Review: Maid In Manhattan is the sort of film thats literally painful to sit through. The plot is ludicrous, the dialogue is bad, and the talented actors are wasted in their roles. None of this is really the filmaker's fault. This is simply the case with 90% of romantic comedys, and this movie isn't in the elite minority with Nine Months and Sleepless in Seattle.

What passes for a plot involves single mom J.Lo who works at a swanky New York hotel. She's risen through the ranks at this high-class place, and gets to tend to the ultra-rich, which earns her enough money to support her young son. Enter drab Republican senator Ralph Finnes, who sweeps Lopez off her feet. The two fall in love in the course of 20 minutes, and there you have it, a perfect resolution.

The acting here is sub-par at best, with both of the leads capable of much better. Lopez showed incredible potential in Out of Sight and The Cell, but lately has only been given romantic fluff to work with. Finnes, who was fantastic in Red Dragon among other films, is especillay horrible here. This is one actor not to cast in a comedy. He's much better suited for drama and suspense. The lone highlights come from Lopez's maid buddies, who provide the occasional chuckle, and from Bob Hoskins, who's incapable of a bad performance.

Do yourself a favor and don't buy this movie. It's not the worst movie ever by any means, but it's certainly not going to win any awards. A cautionary rental at best.

Summary: Liked It
Review: Now, I am not a J-Lo fan. Notwithstanding we're both from the Bronx and all, but something about this movie made me just fall in love with it. And it was the romantic rags-to-riches story that got to me. I rented it once it came out on video, and I enjoyed it from start to finish. Personally, I didn't think that Fiennes could pull it off, but he did. The girl that was her friend, really she kind of stole the show with her bold, impulsive ways. All in all, it gets a five from me.

Summary: Stereotyped version of Cinderella - but everybody knew it
Review: "Maid in Manhattan" is Cinderella revisited with an attempt to re-create the atmosphere of "Pretty woman" (couldn't make it). I could stop this review right here and it would have sumarized the whole movie. But I want to go on and say some things.

In my opinion, Jennifer Lopez is very beautiful, but she's still looking for the part that will make her an actress respected for her talent. Since "The cell", all her movies were completely awful. "Maid in Manhattan" is just a little rise in a sequence of bad movies. Ralph Fiennes is a very talented actor (one of my favorites) with a sequence of interesting (yes, good) movies and characters since the terrible "The avengers". He must be needing the money. Both Jennifer and Fiennes have played very different parts along their career. Jennifer Lopez hadn't done, so far, a complete-and-only latina girl (Selena, for example, was a more complex character - a real life person in fact - not just a latina singer). I mean, think about "The cell", think about "Blood and wine". And Fiennes was that monster nazi Goeth in "Schindler's list", he was Francis Dollarhyde in "Red dragon", and best of all, he was the Count Almasy in "English patient"! So, that's the question, why did they choose to play two over-stereotyped characters in a below average movie with a terrible script full of cliches (yes, there is the scene when the pretty lady has to prove lots of dresses and everyone is happy)?

Maid in Manhattan is not even a three-stars movie, it's more like two-stars. But I will give it three. Why? Because in the end, after all the cliches and stereotypes, leaving reason aside, I could enjoy the parts of the movie that weren't completely annoying. I also liked the kid playing JLo's son.

But the main reason is that there's a line that's going to be memorable:

Marisa (J Lopez): I came here tonight to tell you this can't continue from this.

Chris (Fiennes): Then you should have worn another dress.

Grade 6.0/10

Summary: Clothes make the maid
Review: Jennifer Lopez features the best Cinderella story. Even better than Cinderella. I saw it on the plane. I felt like buying the movie on DVD one day. When I saw it on the plane, I was leaving London, and there it was. I felt like calling my girlfriend on the phone and I said "Guess what I saw?"

Summary: Chick Flick Deluxe
Review: I have never liked J-Lo or Ralph Fiennes! Have seen Wedding Planner (it left me cold) and, after reading reviews of English Patient, I ddn't watch it. A friend rented this for our chick flick night and now I think Ms. Lopez has a bit of acting ability and Mr. Fiennes quite [handsome]. (It's his eyes.) If you like chick flicks, try it.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Jennifer Lopez pleasingly returns to what she's good at
Review: It's good to see Jennifer Lopez return to what she is really appealing at. And that is romantic flair like this and THE WEDDING PLANNER. In between she made annoying stuff like ANGEL EYES (nothing angelic about it and ENOUGH (any five minutes of it was QUITE enough). In those she was trying to be the Hispanic Ashley Judd. Even if that is a dirty job that someone needs to do, it just ain't what Jennifer does well. In her good movies like this one, it is more like she's being the Hispanic Julia Roberts. And that is much better and much more what she shines at. Please, Jennifer, let's have more shining and less whining!
