Rating: Summary: Dull, dumb Review: I don't particularly care for J. Lo. But I watched "Enough" on cable and I have to admit, it was pretty good. So, I gave "Maid in Manhattan" a try and thought maybe I'd have to become a fan of Miss Lo if the movie was good. It was stinkola. She is totally unbelievable in the role. There was no chemistry between her and Fiennes. The plot was dumb. It just did not hold my interest at all, it was tough to sit through the whole thing. I'm okay with preditable, sappy, dumb romantic comedies, but this was just plain boring. I was very disappointed. I think J. Lo is really an ok actress with some potential for making decent and entertaining films, but this isn't one of them.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: I Love J.Lo and this movie is brilhant and VERY ROMANTIC but not is totaly comedy have drama too! Jennifer surprise me again!
Rating: Summary: Not Romantic Review: One of the key ingredients for any romantic comedy is some kind of electricity between the stars. Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes not only have no sparks, they are in movie that relies so heavily on formula that the formula seems more than ordinarily forced. For example, Jennifer Lopez's character has to go to a "ball" so she can seem like Cinderella, only she doesn't stay very long and nothing notable happens. Then, her "Prince Charming" chases after her and they wind up in bed. All the time Jennifer Lopez's character is being deceitful as to her true identity ... also a forced plot device. This movie attempts to create a modern take on an old classic ... that is, if the movie is actually attempting anything other than getting box office sales. There is no story. There is no romance. There is no magic. I cannot imagine anyone wanting to see this movie more than once; it is not worth having in your video or DVD library.
Rating: Summary: Jenny From The Block Review: To say Jennifer Lopez's reputation precedes her is an understatement, and even her fiancé, Ben Affleck, has admitted to that, before he started filming the ill-fated Gigli with her. So I was understandably wary about getting this, but it seemed like my kind of film, even being described as Prettier Woman. And after being told that my reputation was tarnished by buying this movie, I thought what the hell, put it in the DVD player, sat back, and got ready to get my claws out.Despite the severe lack of extras (has trailers for Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, Anger Management, and Daddy Day Care, plus a trailer for the film itself) I found myself really, really enjoying this film! It's a great feel good movie, and although it's nothing new, stealing ideas from Pretty Woman, Notting Hill (the press conference scene near the end) and that age old classic, Cinderella, I was sitting through it with a smile on my face. I have no problems with Jennifer Lopez as an actress. She's terrific, she played the part well, looking the part of the low down maid, with long, gorgeous hair. She doesn't quite match up to Julia Roberts (she doesn't have the big mouth for starters), but I can't see Julia Roberts, earning mega bucks per movie, ever going back to the pay she earned for Pretty Woman. Who I did have a problem with however, was Ralph Fiennes. Not exactly the most charismatic leading man ever! He shows no emotion throughout the film, and just annoys the hell out of me generally. They could have had any fantastic leading man, but they blew the budget on J-Lo. (Now his younger brother, hello, hello, hello!) With Richard Gere in Pretty Woman, his hair was grey, and he was a lot older, but he always had that twinkle in his eye. And you know what they say about guys with twinkles in their eyes - they beat the guys without twinkles in their eyes hands down. I had a minor argument about comparing it to Cinderella. Thankfully, there were no ugly sisters, but it was a modern day Cinderella, without a doubt. Everyone knows the story about Cinderella, so I won't go into it here and now. She did go to the ball, and she did run away from her Prince Charming, and the Prince Charming ran after her, and found her glass slipper. (Although technically, that didn't happen in this - the director probably thought he would be too obvious with that.) The soundtrack isn't that terrific. J-Lo being J-Lo, just has to get TWO of her songs onto the soundtrack, one being a cover of a Diana Ross classic (no, not Chain Reaction). The rest was filled up with Norah Jones - dull as ditchwater, I'm sorry. Every girl will enjoy this film. They will be jealous of Jennifer Lopez, and will put themselves in her place, and hopefully replace Ralph Fiennes with their own Prince Charming. It's definitely not a guy film, and gals, if your boyfriend wants to see it, it's only because he fancies J-Lo. And if any girls don't like it, get them to report to me. I'll sit them in front of Lost Highway. Then see which film they prefer.
Rating: Summary: Well....... Review: It's quite simple. Maid in Manhattan is your usual romantic fairytale: man sees a beautiful lady and falls in love with her. But for some reason or another, lady cannot be with man because of a secret, and as I'm sure you can predict, there is a rather soppy end scene where they kiss and make up and live happily ever after!! I have to say that although this is your typical romantic film, I did enjoy it. I mean, it wasn't that bad. I have to admit that I prefer Jennifer Lopez as an actress rather than a singer. But I don't think that this film has anything extra or special about it! I wouldn't say that this film was a comedy, but I did find myself chuckling in a few bits! Don't buy it, just rent it!!! That's what I did! It's much better! And if you can get it free, even better!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Aye Carumba Review: The only believable part of this movie was J-Lo as a common scrub girl.
Rating: Summary: I guess I've seen worse in my life ... Review: Does Hollywood have a calendar that has one of the days marked as "Make Cinderella Movie" day? Let's just cut to the chase. We've all seen this movie a hundred times a hundred different ways, so I'm not going to insult anyone by going over the plot. The acting is just average. That's OK though; sometimes (even though the plot may be overdone) there is value in simply not messing anything up and having said that said, both Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes don't screw up. Don't misunderstand; I say that somewhat tongue-in-cheek, creatively speaking, they're not exactly stretching themselves either. I thought that Lopez was terrific in 'The Cell' and super-cool in 'Out of Sight.' Fiennes also has a bunch of movies I thought he was great in, most notably 'The English Patient.' 'Maid in Manhattan' certainly doesn't rank anywhere near those movies. However, all of that's really neither here nor there though I guess. They both turn in a solid outing; I suppose that's the bottom line. My problem (and admittedly, maybe this is just me being 'a guy') is that I just CAN'T TAKE the cliché of "The Cinderella Story" anymore. The whole plot is just soooo ... "FORMULA." I honestly feel like, just by reading the box, I could have penned out the whole movie myself ... from heart. If you need a date movie, there really are better ones out there RIGHT NOW to see. However (for all the guys) if you can't steer clear of this one, at least take comfort in the fact that you won't feel like you've been mugged when you turn off the DVD player. While it may be infinitely disposable, it's (at least) not offensively bad.
Rating: Summary: well Review: The movie started out good, but the ending was so cheesy. Good film for the whole family to watch.
Rating: Summary: Cute Romantic Movie ! Review: This was a cute movie. Predictable yet fun to watch it unfold. Great chemistry between Lopez and very fine Ralph Fiennes. Fairtale ending. What else could you want. Tyler Posey who plays her son is very cute and great fit. Great cast! Funny too. Great addition to your collection!
