Rating: Summary: Great Movie !!! Review: I don't know what people are complaining about. The movie was about looking at a person's inner beauty and not what they look like from the outside. There was NO one making fun of fat people.. hey I am overweight and I didn't find anything offensive. Hal looked at the sick children in the hospital and all he could see was a group of beautiful children.. but when he saw the pretty nurse Tonya.. he saw her ugliness inside. Even Rosie's skinny boyfriend looked pretty to Hal... who in real life was not pretty at all. He looked good to Hal because he was a nice person. I guess some people just neeed to sit back and look at the movie and listen to the message it's trying to present.
Rating: Summary: great Review: SHALLOW HAL 10 of 10 This was a cute not even perverted movie. It has a good message which is don't judge a book by its cover. Jack Black plays Hal a very shallow guy until he meets rosemary a 150 pound knockout to him 300 pound not so hottie to everyone else. You see Hal sees her inner beauty not her outside. Jason Alexander plays his buddy Marcucio who wants to break the two up. If you rent this watch it.
Rating: Summary: "HAL" is Deeper Than You Think Review: The new Farrelly Brothers film is worth seeing. When the film was relased in November 2001, I remember that some people loved the film while others thought it was a little too offensive. The truth is, the intentions of "SHALLOW HAL" are good, and the point of the film is not to offend those overweight, but to tell us not to judge others on external appearance. Gwyneth Paltrow is hilarious and amazing in the film, while Jack Black brings a lot of laughs. Overall, despite some crude situations, "SHALLOW HAL" is one of the best comedies of 2001 and is both meaningful and easily enjoyable. The DVD offers some amazing behind-the-scenes features, including trailers, deleted scenes, and other features that let you really explore the making of "SHALLOW HAL."
Rating: Summary: Its not 1/2 as bad as people are making it out to be..... Review: Okay now I'm against making fun of people&all and everything and YES! This does have some in it...It runs through the story line, but it has ALOT less then I thought there would be from what I had heard about this movie. I mean there were'nt all to many fat jokes really or ugly jokes. And plus this movie carries a *GREAT* moral "Beauty is ONLY skin deep." And its a wonderfull romantic comedy that breaks the mold. The real problem I have with movies like this is mainly "sex"...Sex outside marraige...Well because I'm strict on that, and I believe that well sex is for marraige.... But anyways, I mean part of the reason the jokes didn't bug me is because they don't come without reason. And it just goes to show what great people you can find not so hot people or beautifull people. It also has a great story to carry it along&Great acting as well... Now I wouldn't recomend this movie because some people will most likely find it offensive, like as I said I got the wrong impression of it because of people who did find it offensive. I can relate to this film in the way that I've been lonely and made fun of for alot of my life. And it just goes to show you can find some great people out there if you just look past the the appearence because as this movie shows after you've met them well looks really don't matter anymore. Its not even that crude, I've seen movies so much worse than this. It has alot of good things going for it that overshadow the bad...If only you'de try to find them(Just like with people). So give it a try, and look beyond the surface&you just may find something worth while!!! *Enjoy* God Bless ~Amy
Rating: Summary: Really not as funny as it could be Review: The subject of this movie is meant to be funny, I guess no one thought though that people who are overweight are discriminated against every day as are the ugly people like in the movie. Having said that, all the parts as usual that are funny were shown in the previews, Jack Black does a good job in his role of Hal, and Gweneth Paltrow, although I generally speaking can't stand her does deserve props for putting on that fat suit every day because that had to hurt and be hot. The movie is worth a look, just make sure you arent the one paying to see it, get your friend to!
Rating: Summary: Oh My god. Review: ... It is the most horrible and offensive movie I've ever seen in my life!! Shallow Hal does go from Shallow to non-shallow. he goes from shallow to shallower. Then in the end, they mock the once of love that he once had, by showing us a kiss that was purposely made to look sloppy just so you would go "EEEEEWWWW!!". This is a horrible movie and was a waste of 2 hours of my life that I'll NEVER get back! Save your money!
Rating: Summary: Shallow Hal or shallow plot? Review: Not even the charismatic Jack Black can save this dying beast of a film about a man (Black) constantly chasing the most attractive women despite his lackluster appearance. He is sort of hypnotized to see the inner beauty only and discovers Gweneth. He should have just jumped off a cliff rigth there and saved himself the aggrivation of spending the next hour or so of this film enduring Paltrow's horrible performance, with or with out the suit. Almost all of the funnier parts are shown in the theatrical previews in an attempt to convince the public that this is a funny film. Well guess what, its not. Jason Alexander plays his usual nuerotic and annoying self as Black's best friend who has similar problems with his life. Make no mistake about it, this film trys its best (as does Black) to entertain the audience. But save yourself the money and boredom and watch something else. Preferably High Fidelity where Black fully showcases himself as a show stealing actor. I gave this film 2 stars simply base on his and Alexander's performance. I might have given it 3 had Paltrow not been in it.
Rating: Summary: The Bigger The Better! Review: Being that I am a heavyset person myself, I was able to put that fact aside and appreciate this movie for what it really is. Truthfully, I didn't find this movie funny but I did find a strong message. This movie goes to show that size doesn't have anything to do with the person on the inside. Gwyneth Paltrow's character Rosemary goes to show how underneath all that excess flesh that there is still a person. I think "Shallow Hal" is a movie that helps demolish discrimination against heavyset people. This movie didn't only give examples of heavyset people but of people who were skinny and just not physically attractive to that of one's expectations. Hal is a very shallow character and he is an example of all those people who discriminate against heavyset men and women and people who are not attractive. Like Hal in the movie, people can change and widen their horizons for something more beautiful. "Shallow Hal" is less of a comedy and more of a motivational, moving story about life. I think this is a family friendly movie, something that kids would like as long as the situation is explained to them. Let this movie touch you on several different levels and check it out.
Rating: Summary: SHALLOW HAL IS A GREAT MOVIE Review: Shallow Hal is one great movie. This movie is very funny and it is also a love story.Gwyneth Paltrow is one of the best looking women in the world and she does a great job in this movie.Jack Black is very good in his role. I give this movie 5 stars and 2 very big thumbs up. I added this movie to my collection, you should too.
