Summary: Lovable Adam Sandler
Review: I loved Mr. Deeds. Maybe predictable at times, but still a very good boy meets girl, falls in love and lives happily ever after. (There is never enough of those kinds of movies!) Very hilarious, as always for Adam Sandler. I did not care for Ms. Ryder playing this part though. Because of her escapades through court I'm a little soured on her. Yes, honey the people are listening and watching. I also noticed that one review said the language was not dirty or offensive for kids and adults, I disagree. I think there could have been lots less bad language and it would not have compromised a thing about the movie. I've seen it twice, guess that sums it up for me.

COMEDYSteven Brill and Adam Sandler remake the Capra/Cooper classic "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town" and not only murder half the title, but the spirit as well. Sandler plays Longfellow Deeds, a pizzaman who inherits 40 billion dollars from his late uncle whom he never knew. Deeds ends up moving to the Big Apple, becoming a media icon, and hands out handfulls of thousand dollar bills as chump change. He also falls in love with a snoopy reporter (Winona Ryder) who goes undercover with the name of Pam Dawson. Deeds is faced with discovering his true love is only after his story, his uncle's company is being thrown over and dimolished by a sleezy executive (Peter Gallagher), and the rest of the world thinks he's a menace to society. The dry humor of Mr. Deeds is blase, pathetic, 10-year old humor that generates laughs here and there, but the latest Sandler character is too sweet, too kind, too much away from Sandler's usual character. The story is a mix of recaps, retreads, and old plot devices. The romance between Ryder and Sandler is like watching Disney cartoon characters interact. Mr. Deeds is low on laughs and high on... maybe its just high. I have to admit this is Sandler's best performance as an actor, but its a terrible character for the type of movie he's in, considering he doesn't generate a whole lot of humor. Mr. Deeds is one of his worst films. I was more interested in the character "Crazy Eyes" (Steve Buscemi) and Sandler's sneaky buttler (John Turturro). They generate the most laughs. If Buscemi's character has been the lead character in place of Sandler's, with Buscemi winning the loot, and earning all the attention, the film would've been funnier. As it is, Mr. Deeds seems more like the drunken brother of Mr. Rogers.

Summary: Another Winner from Sandler!
Review: Adam Sandler's back with a vengeance going back with the formula that made him a success. Like in his other hits (The Wedding Singer, Waterboy, Big Daddy), Sandler plays the everyday simple but lovable guy that you can't help but fall in love with. Like a charm, it works for him again here. ...While it gets off to a bit of a slow start (and some of the jokes do fall flat), the movie quickly picks up steam and the laughs come non-stop afterward. Combining the best of his strong suits, this movie should appease Sandler fans after the "Little Nicky" bomb. Sandler's back where he belongs as the simple but lovable, loud-mouthed but honorable lug everyone loves. Combining the sweetness of "The Wedding Singer" with Deed's affinity for touching poems, his "simple but lovable" small-town boy vibe from "Waterboy" and his butt-kicking slapstick from "Big Daddy," "Mr. Deeds" covers all bases, entertains and pleases. ...If you need a good laugh or just a nice, fun movie to unwind with, Sandler's "Mr. Deeds" will do it for you. Highly Recommended

Summary: Will Adam Sandler ever grow up?
Review: Adam Sandler is funny; but sometimes, you just want him to do a role that is not typecast. He always plays the goofball that is down on his luck but comes out on top. MR. DEEDS tells the same story, but this time he inherits forty billion dollars and must decide what to do with it. For the money he hands out in DEEDS, what would I do? Here, take my car, TV, VCR, PlayStation2--what else do you want?
For being a nice, proper fellow, he gets in a lot of fights. Is this the message we want to give our children--especially teens who are most likely to see this film? But the movie gets plenty of extra credit too. Sandler is not as obnoxious as usual, & it has minimal language compared to most of his movies. And it has a great supporting cast of characters that you care about, even though they are only there to keep the story going. Emilio, the butler, spooks all the characters out and will spook viewers as well--but all for laughs. Minus one point for having that Peter Gallagher guy once again play an annoying, conniving jerk. Plus another two points off for no real chemistry between the leads, Sandler and Winona Ryder. Ryder is better off in her wigged-out roles, and Sandler needs to find something different to do. Bad movie that manages to pull itself up by seemingly not caring if it makes sense or not. Sit back and enjoy the movie as escapism for about two hours before you are released back into the every day world of having important things to do.

Summary: A perfect example of what not to watch!
Review: All Sandler films are great? I once may have thought that! Now I'm starting to doubt that! I usually enjoy Sandler's films but not this one. It was okay. It wasn't that funny and although it had Reese's Legally Blonde type character in Sandler, it just made the film worse. In the movie Sandler plays a not so smart guy who inherits a fortune. Than it goes on to the usual drama series plots with a female falling in love and all that kind of stuff. A lot of people would still enjoy this if they expect it to be as bad as "Little Nicky". But overall it's not worth it!
The main problem is it's too different from animated features. For example Monsters Inc. may have the funny wise cracks but it also has a great story. Mr. Deeds is almost no story and is mostly made up of corny jokes. It may be a romantic comedy but it's something Julia Roberts wouldn't star in-EVER! Turturro was okay but overall even the film's acting performances are some you wouldn't want to be inspired by! It's far from being a funny comedy and although not as bad as "Little Nicky", after it it's one of his worst flicks ever!...

Review: This is a funny movie. Granted, it is light years from being original or a masterpiece, but if you are in the mood for a lighthearted comedy and you have enjoyed movies like "Dumb And Dumber," "The Waterboy," and "Tommy Boy," then you will like this movie.

Summary: The Diminution of a Classic
Review: Hollywood has done it again - plundered one of its treasures in service of the Almighty Buck. `Mr. Deeds' is, technically I guess, a remake of Frank Capra's marvelous 1936 classic `Mr. Deeds Goes to Town.' It's no surprise, perhaps, that in this less-than-literate age, the makers of `Mr. Deeds' have found it necessary to trim three words off the original film's title. But the loss of a few words is the least of this film's problems, since `Mr. Deeds' has also jettisoned the subtlety, wit and depth of the earlier film and replaced them with broad slapstick, endless pratfalls and wheezy plot mechanics that better jibe with the undemanding tastes of modern movie audiences. The earlier film featured Gary Cooper as the naïve country bumpkin who, upon inheriting the fortune of an uncle he never knew he had, journeys to the Big Bad City and shows the people there a thing or two about old fashioned, small town values. The remake retains the general premise of the story, but it has a hard time making a convincing case for those values since Deeds, though we keep being told what a swell guy he is, seems to be guided by a rather questionable moral code, which is that he beats the crap out of anybody he happens not to like. In fact, that seems to be the modus operandi for a number of the people who hail from his hometown of Mandrake Falls, New Hampshire. These violence-prone country rubes don't seem too ethically removed from the callous New York City big shots we're supposed to find so appalling. Maybe it's too much to ask that an Adam Sandler comedy tone down the raucousness a bit, but the pratfalling and mugging do get to be a bit wearying after awhile. Sandler conveys a certain tone of befuddled charm at times and Winona Ryder does a nice turn as the somewhat ditzy reporter who first deceives, then eventually falls in love with this strange man from an alien world, but one only needs to see Cooper and Jean Arthur in the original roles to see how ADULTS would behave in the same circumstances. (In keeping with the semi-literate nature of the times, the Arthur character has been changed from a reporter working for a newspaper to one working for a tabloid TV news program). In fact, every element of the original shines in comparison to its counterpart in this remake. The title is not the only thing here that has been dumbed down.

Review: i am disappointed to see Sandler doing films like this i would review this film as the same story line as billy maddison but no where near as funny Adam Sandler doing films such as happy gilmore, bulletproof there is no one better please do more of them leave these films for russle crow . If you like sandler like me you will watch anything he does.so overall the films good to watch but just not a Sandler movie but go and watch Its as good as anything else made this year

Summary: "You're sick! You're sick! Why would you do that???"
Review: Remember that line from the trailers where Adam Sandler tells his butler to whack him on his frostbit foot? Or what about the scene where he carries the old man across the street to the post office? How about playing tennis with Peter Gallagher? And who could forget the staged mugging with Winona Ryder? I bet you got a good laugh from the trailers. Sadly, you've seen the best of the film. I kid you not. Apart from the plot twist at the end you could smell a mile away, there's nothing else worth watching in this film. Harsh words, huh? Don't get me wrong. I do find Adam Sandler funny from time to time. But for an actor who got paid $25 million for this film, he could've tried a little bit harder. The acting was non-existent. His role as the guy who gets rich and wisens up to the world around him is so repetitive it becomes a grind to watch. And that voice! That whiny, whiny voice. Arghhh!!! Back to the film. The plot really is very simple. A media mogul named Blake dies while on a climbing expedition and the closest heir happens to be Longfellow Deeds, a smalltown pizza delivery guy. The CEO convinces him to go to New York City for a few days to sign some papers that hand over Blake's 51% stake in the company (by selling his shares to the board). Naturally, this story would totally bomb without some sort of romance tossed in. This is where a news reporter (played by Ryder) pretends to be a smalltown girl to spy on Deeds. Love develops and well that's all I can say without giving anything away. (Oh, by the way Rob Schneider makes two cameo appearances once again as the foreign cook. I so enjoyed Deuce Bigalow Male Gigolo more than this film.) (Surprisingly, another comedy starring Adam Sandler called Punch-drunk love won the equivalent of Best Director for Paul-Thomas Anderson in this year's Cannes Film Festival.) I cannot recommend this film to the readers unless you just want to stay out of the rain for an hour or two. LEAP rating (each out of 5):

Summary: Sandler Hits Another Home Run!!!
Review: Before I get into the review of this film, let me say that Adam Sandler is my favorite actor and I have loved all of his films. When I saw the preview for this movie I knew that I would go and see it, but I didn't think that it would be as good as some of the films that he did when he first started his acting career. Upon the viewing of this movie, I was wrong. This is my second favorite Adam Sandler movie and continues in the tradition of great Sandler films with laughs-a-plenty and great characters. The movie opens up where the billionaire owner of a media company dies while hiking in snowy mountains. From here, nobody knows who will get the forty billion dollar estate that was left behind. About ten to fifteen movies we learn that Longfellow Deeds, who is played by the one and only Adam Sandler, is the only living relative to the deceased billionaire and is the rightful owner of the forty billion dollars, a football team, a huge media compnay, a beautiful apartment in New York City, and much more. Longfellow decides to move into the city after leaving his hometown of Mandrake Falls. He falls in love with a woman, but the girl is really a spy for a TV show, trying to prove that Longfellow is a derelict. Adam is picked on by New York's upper society. From start to finish, this movie is a sure winner. I won't lie to you, this film is cliched. It is cliched upon Adam Sandler's previous works, but frankly, this didn't bother me as it was like I was getting little parts of older movies being replayed towards a new plot. For example, when Longfellow is rejected by the high society of NYC, this is a bit like "Happy Gilmore," where he was rejected by the golfers on the pro tour. And as it is with all of his movies, he has to overcome certain odds to finally do something. What makes this film so fabulous is the acting talent. Adam Sandler is one of the funniest actors alive and in this film we see him act at his very best. We also have Winona Ryder in the movie as she plays the reporter that starts to fall in love with Longfellow. If you have seen Happy's other movies then be sure to keep your eyes open as there are cameos by people in roles in his other movies. The psychopath from "Billy Madison" that Billy calls is in here. The homeless man that Adam, or Sonny, of "Big Daddy" is in the film as well. Finally, Rob Scheneider is in this film, but he he doesn't have a talking part. If you are looking for a funny movie that will have you laughing throughout the film, this is the movie for you. This is my second favorite Adam Sandler film and will be enjoyed by all.
