Summary: An off-film for Sandler
Review: This film looked promising in the ads, and since I am such a huge Sandler fan, I had to rent it. The film tries to be an after 9/11 emotional film, while at the same time being a lowbrow comedy. Very few films have done 2 things at the same time (The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, Brazil, Good Morning Vietnam, Dr. Strangelove, Annie Hall, Forrest Gump) and many have been like this. This film can't decide what it want's to be, and to an Adam Sandler fan like me, you don't want to see emotional stuff in one of his films, and to someone who wants to see and emotinal film, there's plenty else to rent. Tecnichally, it's better thatn Big Daddy, but unlike Big Daddy, it doesn't take any chances. The film is very slightly based on Mr. Deeds goes to town, but in a 2002 format. Trust me, the director Stevn Brill is not the Coen Brothers. For a true emotional fan, who want's to see Adam Sandler. And for an Adam Sandler fan, who want's to see emotional. I liked to non-serious parts with "crazy eyes" a lot.Those were as good as any of his films. But the other parts I didn't like. Ive talked to many Adam Sandlers fans who agree with me, and some who disagree. A good dvd, though. For an Adam Sandler fan, I liked the "Adam Sandler parts." I just can't see an Adam sandler emotinal film, and it actually isn't that emotional, but its enough to change an okay film to being this. The emotional parts felt out of place, and as an adam sandler fan, the film felt out of place. I don't know who this film was made.

Review: I would have to say that this is one of the stupidest movies that I have ever seen in my life. I wish that I could have the two hours that I wasted watching this trash back. Please don't waste your time.

Review: I mean it is really a very-very bad movie. There is really nothing to talk about. Dialogs are just plainly stupid. Jokes are not funny (no matter how hard you try to be positive). Good actors look like they are bad; bad actors look embarrassingly bad. Amazing waste of time and money...

Review: This is a great movie. Adam is hilarious in this film . Nobody could have played this role any better. This is a 5 star movie and it's definitely one to own and watch over and over again.

Summary: This was so disappointing...
Review: Sandler plays the title character as a friendly, trusting, romantic who's only dream is to be accepted as a writer by Hallmark. Much to his surprise he has suddenly inherited millions and has to travel to New York City to get the money. The movie then becomes the proverbial fish out of water as the nice guy is subjected to all the horrors of the big city.I was so horribly disappointed with this movie. When I saw the trailers I thought it had the potential to be hysterical, much like Water Boy, Happy Gilmore, and Big Daddy. Unfortunately the laughs were only there and not evident at all throughout the rest of the movie. The story seems to have been a leftover script from Saturday Night Live which just opens and doesn't go anywhere. The characters are weakly developed, if at all, and the dialogue is ridiculous. Furthermore there is no chemistry whatsoever between Sandler and the female lead, Winona Ryder.

Summary: Mr. Deeds goes to Tihs
Review: Don't get me wrong, I love Adam Sandler. Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, The Wedding Singer, Big Daddy, they are all hysterical, but Mr. Deeds, what happened? As if Little Nicky wasn't bad enough! Basically Sandler plays a guy named Longfellow Deeds, a pizza place owner in a small town, who by good fortune inherits his uncles forty billion dollar fortune and must go to New York to claim it. Along the way he meets people with hidden agendas, most notabley Winona Ryder, a reporter posing as a good girl to get dirt on him, and Peter Gallagher, a power hungry excecutive. Additionally some people from New York society laugh at his small town ways and John Turturro wants to touch his feet. I could not believe how bad this movie was. Save for a few funny moments (and they were far between) this movie is a total waste. The performances, especially from Ryder, are horrible. And that is saying a lot because Sandler films are not real heavy material. Sandler himself looks lost, and comes off as stupid, but not funny Waterboy stupid, just stupid. Steven Brill, who also directed Little Nicky, should not be aloud to work with Sandler anymore. Mr. Deeds is the perfect example of why Capra films should not be remade, but beyond that is the question why it was made. It made a lot of money, maybe that's the answer. I don't know. From Adam Sandler I expect a lot more.

Summary: John Turturro steals the film
Review: You probably know the plot already--Adam Sandler plays Longfellow Deeds, owner of a small pizza parlour. His ambition in life is to sell rhymes to Hallmark greeting cards. He's sweet, he's naive, and he's about to inherit billions from a deceased relative. Deeds is whisked off to New York by greedy executives who hope to swindle the naive new billionaire out of his new company--and how hard can this be? The film is amusing, and all the cast are fun to watch. But there was nothing really original here. There's Steve Buscemi as "Crazy Eyes" (remember Marty Feldman in "Young Frankenstein"?), but the funniest thing about this film is John Turturro as the sneaky butler with the foot-fetish. This is another one of those odd roles that Turturro seems to throw himself into. The film was worth watching just for him.

Summary: Typical Sandler, if you like him you'll like this...
Review: There were absolutely no surprises in this movie. Adam Sandler has a formula down and, with variations, he keeps making the same movie over and over. That's not necessarily a bad thing. On a Friday night when everyone in my family was exhausted, this "brain candy" was easy watching and not some cinematic challenge. The ending was predictable. I mean, who WOULDN'T fall in love with Winona Ryder? The surprise of this movie, and he almost steals it from Sander, is the oddball role played by John Turturro, who's made his name in the Coen brothers movies (O Brother Where Art Though, etc.). It took me a few minutes to figure who he was and when I did I was happily surprised. Winona's role is, well, one dimensional and Sandler plays the same character he always plays, only this time he actually owns a business (a pizzeria) and is semi-responsible. The requisite crude jokes are, for the most part, thankfully missing -- a point that I think my 10-year-old son didn't like. Overall, it was a decent movie, but certainly not "great cinema." If you're tired or in a bad mood, this will perk you up, put a smile on your face, and life will go on. This movie is like one of those white powered doughnuts you can get in any store. They look good, they taste good, but once you're done eating one, there's a bit of flavor there but you're still just as hungry...

Review: Mr. Deeds is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time! Adam Sandler is his usual goofy self without all the expletives, and this time he's actually playing a decent person! This remake of a 1930's movie by the same title is a classic story about the clash between cosmopolitan selfishness and greed, and good old moral fiber. And this time, the good guy wins! It's about time we start portraying good guys who help blind men cross the street and come to the rescue of others in distress as decent people (instead of sappy do-gooders)! As Buddha says: "What you meditate on becomes your reality." Well take some time to sit in front of the television and meditate on "Mr. Deeds"! Check out the older version too!

Review: AFTER SEEING "MR. DEEDS" THREE TIMES ON THE BIG SCREEN IT WAS APPARENT THAT I WOULD BE PURCHASING THE DVD UPON RELEASE. EVEN AFTER A FORTH VEIWING THE MOVIE WAS STILL FUNNY AND HIGHLY ENTERTAINNG TO ME. SOMETHING THAT IS ALSO FUNNY TO ME IS WHEN I HEAR SOMEONE SAY HOW MUCH THEY LOVE ADAM SANDLER AND HIS MOVIES, YET THEY DON'T LIKE THIS ONE. "MR. DEEDS" IS ONE OF (IF NOT SIMPLY HIS BEST FILM) SO FAR. IN ADDITION TO SANDLER.. A GREAT CAST WAS FORMED. YOU'VE GOT WINONA RYDER IN A DELIGHTFUL PERFORMANCE, JOHN TURTURRO STEALING SCENE AFTER SCENE, PETER GALLAGHER IN A NASTY ROLE AND A HILARIOUS ALLEN COVERT. THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS THIS FILM WAS REMADE FROM A FILM THAT WAS MADE IN THE 1930's (MR. DEEDS GOES TO TOWN) DURING THE DEPRESSION ERA. THIS 2002 REMAKE IS EVERYTHING IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN AND MORE. MY THOUGHT IS LETS NOT COMPARE THIS WITH THE 30's CLASSIC. LETS JUST LAUGH AND HAVE A GOOD TIME. ALL IT TAKES IS A SENSE OF HUMOR.
