Rating: Summary: Hey this movie is not so bad.... Review: I just finished viewing "bedazzled" with Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley. This was one movie that I had read bad reviews about, and I left it on the shelf at the video store. Well tonight, some jerk had not returned my reserved copy of Space Cowboys, and Bedazzled was the only movie I had not seen that was available. I held my nose and rented it. Hey this movie is not so bad. Brendan Fraser plays 8 completely different characters with some degree of skill, and Hurley does her Austin Powers beauty role with a great deal of comic timing and wit. Don't expect too much. Its a solid 3 stars - a light hearted romp, that has more going for it than the Dudley Moore version. Hurley's easier on the eyes too.
Rating: Summary: Brendan Fraser Way Above The Material, Hurley and Others Review: Brendan Fraser is a very gifted actor. People used to laugh at me when I said this just a few years ago but they are saying it less these days. His biggest gift is one of range. He can play an astonishing range of roles from comedic to dramatic to romantic and even on to disturbed. He does them all well. The one thing he needs to get better at though is picking his film vehicles. He is wasting a lot of his talent on not well enough written screenplays and/or costars who don't have enough talent. If you think I have lost my mind regarding my praise of this actor's potential, I typically silence all doubters by getting them to watch him in "Gods & Monsters," a superb film in every particular. "Bedazzled" shows both Fraser's strengths and weaknesses. He does a good job of playing Elliot Richards, a nerdish San Francisco computer employee, who tries to fit in with his co-workers and fails miserably. He then gets an opportunity by the devil, played by Elizabeth Hurley, to play out 7 life fantasies in exchange for his soul. It is in the playing out of these fantasies where you can see some of Fraser's terrific comedic ability. These range from a Columbian drug lord to an athletic star to a rock star to a sensitive guy to a gay man. These sequences were genuinely funny and even touching in places. The weaknesses: his costars, as usual, are way too weak as foils for him. Elizabeth Hurley as the devil really plays what she is, a beautiful model. (One really wonders where she is going to be in 5-10 years and I can't imagine it being any place good.) His coworkers and love interest, all unremarkable and unrecognizable to me, drag whenever they are onscreen too. But I am such a Fraser fan that for me it is still a 4 star movie but, for many of you, it may be less.
Rating: Summary: The Term "Cruel and Unusual Punishment" rings a bell... Review: I saw the commercials for this movie and could not WAIT to see it. When I rented it, I wanted to DIE! The commercials made it seem funny and politically incorrect (which I love), the movie is very preachy. It was like a two hour curch service with some special effects and no holy water. Skip it!
Rating: Summary: Bredan Fraser Is Flat Out Funny Review: Sure Brendan Fraser has a history of wacky comedic roles, but he seems to enjoy doing them. Most of his comedies are too silly or off the wall, but this one was great. Not comparing it with the original Bedazzled movie, this movie made laugh like no other. Brendan does a great job portraying all of his characters that he goes through in this movie. With comedic support from Elizabeth Hurley, Frances O'Connor Orlando Jones and others the movie keeps the energy all the way through. This movie played like a great Saturday Night Live episode with Brendan Fraser as host. Every actor and actress played different roles for each wish that he made. Example: When Elliot (Brendan Frasier) was a Columbia Drug Dealer, Orlando Jones was one of his hench men. When Elliot was a famous basketball player, Orlando was a sports commentator, etc. etc. All and all, great fun!!
Rating: Summary: Best Movie of the Century!!! Review: Acting, plot, and script were absolutely superb. Better than Basic Instinct or Saving Private Ryan. Should have won dozens of Oscars. A must own for everyone.
Rating: Summary: From Great To Not so Great Review: The acting throughout the movie was very good, so that wasn't the problem. The problem was that the first 85% of the movie was good and really funny, but the ending wasn't so great - actually it wasn't good at all. That just ruined it. However, this movie did give off a good theme/message, so it was ok in some ways...But doesn't a good movie need a good ending????
Rating: Summary: ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz Review: Snore feast! This movie is garbage. Not funny, predictable and done many times before. Someone tell Brandon he can't act. The only positive point I can make is Hurley looks great! Wait for HBO and save your money.
Rating: Summary: looks over talent Review: should we really be laughing at Liz Hurley's acting more than the film?
Rating: Summary: Yet another unecessary remake Review: I had a bad feeling about this remake when I saw that they cast Liz Hurley as the Devil. True to form, this is a classic example of the Hollywood belief that a hot bit of eye-candy will distract the audience from the bad writing long enough to make a pile of cash. Poor Brendan Fraser. He deserves a better script than this. The jokes are predictable, the plot is thin, Fraser's character is moronic instead of sympathetic (Hollywood seems to think that "ordinary guy" is synonymous with "idiot"), and the few minutes of fortune cookie philosophy thrown in near the end feels like an afterthought from somebody who never gave the afterlife much thought. There is a reason why the movie industry relies so heavily on remakes of old movies and television shows these days. It is obvious they have run out of ideas, and all the good writers have abandoned ship. And if movie makers want people to judge their work on it's own merits, they should do their own work and quit scamming off the creativity of others, although this movie would be bad even if we didn't have the gem from Peter Cook and Dudley Moore to compare it with.
Rating: Summary: One of the best concepts for a movie! Review: At first, it really looks like a simple comedy that is already old. When you watch the movie, you don't just enjoy it, you learn something from it. This movie is very inspiring and that's what an excellent movie should be. Yes, we're tired of the good vs. evil plot but this movie adds a new twist to it. What would you do if you're given 7 wishes? The catch is that, you have to surrender your soul to the devil. The bottom line, watch the movie. It's fun, exciting, and very inspiring.
