Rating: Summary: Fun BLONDE Comedy! Review: Reese Witherspoon does her blonde heritage proud! I love this movie which has the popular girl cast as the outcast finding her way and growing up and doing things her way- and finding acceptance and pride. The humor is great- sweet touching and memorable! Who can forget the Dip and Snap?
Rating: Summary: I hate the person who said they hate Reese Witherspoon Review: Spider-man is a good movie! You are an idiot!
Rating: Summary: A bit too gurly Review: Not the best movie and way too cliche. However, it's okay I guess and it shows that a dumb blonde can make a difference. It's a bit off though because it's degrading Harvard and saying that practically anyone can get in.
Rating: Summary: Legally Great Comedy Review: Legally Blonde is an outstanding comedy that can be appreciated by almost everyone. Anyone who has something against peppy-prissy girls may not want to watch this film. But for anyone who does not, they will be able to sit back, relax and enjoy the show. Reese Witherspoon does a wonderful job playing as Elle Woods, a no-common sense, perfect display of stereotypical blonde that we all knew in high school or college. This comedy provides an almost real life plot as Elle chases after her college boyfriend/ex-boyfriend, Warner Huntington III (Mathew Davis), who enrolls into Harvard Law School. Who would think that girl such as Ella would be able to accomplish so much in such an extreme sorority girl way. Legally Blonde entices a desire in everyone to be able to stride for what they want. It left me thinking that if a girl like that can achieve outstanding dreams with hard work, then why can't I. This film is definitely a good movie for those who would like to find the comedy of every situation.
Rating: Summary: Legally Blonde: A Filmmaker¿s Apocalypse Review: It would be easy for the common person to bash Legally Blonde. I, on the other hand, have closely studied this film and have found it to be one of the best productions of our time, as it represents true artistic expression.Look at the storyline: The protagonist, Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon), is deeply in love with her long time boyfriend, Warner Huntington (Matthew Davis) and believes he will deliver an engagement ring during their next date. Instead he dumps her for another girl who he claims is "more serious." Apparently Warner's family-prestigious, wealthy East Coasters-would according to him, not approve of this capricious, spoiled Beverly Hills princess. But it's not a Romeo and Juliet scenario, since (1) Warner is unhappy with Elle Woods anyway, and (2) she has never met his parents. Actually, the best way to describe this movie is The Paper Chase meets Clueless. Ok, back to the story...Elle Woods must win back her man, so she decides to "get serious." To prove that she is worthy to be his bride, she aces the LSAT and applies to his law school, Harvard University (one of three universities ever mentioned in movies). She gets accepted-with the help of a swimsuit video she created exclusively for the admissions committee-and somehow begins the new school year in the same class as her ex-boyfriend (and his new girlfriend) all within a six-month period. Is this a good message to send to our youngsters? Completely change your life's direction to chase down a boyfriend or girlfriend who doesn't like you? No! But if we look beyond this cliché story line, as well as the poor acting, atrocious direction, ludicrous dialog, and pitiful editing, there is a brilliant message shining through. And what is interesting is that the message comes not from the story, but from the production itself, i.e., writers, directors, editors, actors, craft services, key grip, best boy, gaffers, cinematographer, etc. Essentially, they have shown the importance of finishing an objective at any cost and without any judgment. There is a strong parallel between the underlying message delivered by the production of Legally Blonde and the overall message of the classic film Apocalypse Now. Apocalypse Now, adapted from the stirring novella, Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, depicts the young military captain, Benjamin L. Willard (Martin Sheen), ordered to journey up a river to ultimately assassinate the renegade Colonel Walter E. Kurtz (Marlin Brando). Yet, as Willard ventures up the river into the darkest parts of the jungle, he also ventures into the deepest, darkest parts of himself. I believe that the production crew of Legally Blonde experienced a similar situation: as production progressed each day, they advanced further along the river of their soul, exploring the horrible darkness within. Clearly these dedicated people tapped into some dark, internal ugliness to produce Legally Blonde, as I can rank it as one of the worst films I've seen in a long time; perhaps worse than Titanic, Tremors, and Losing Isaiah. But that's what so brilliant about the movie! The production crew expressed themselves in a completely novel, artistic, and moving way. I often think about the strength and courage of the Legally Blonde production members. If I had 1/10 of their qualities, I'd be unstoppable in this world. A person of average moral judgment would have walked off the set on day 1. But not these people! They were strong and dedicated. In Apocalypse Now, Colonel Kurtz makes a parallel argument to Willard regarding his admiration towards the ruthlessness and courage of Vietcong soldiers in the Vietnam War: ***And I thought: My God...the genius of that. The genius. The will to do that. Perfect, genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. And then I realized they were stronger than we. Because they could stand that these were not monsters...These were men...trained cadres...these men who fought with their hearts, who had families, who had children, who were filled with love...but they had the strength...the strength...to do that. If I had ten divisions of those men our troubles here would be over very quickly. You have to have men who are moral...and at the same time who are able to utilize their primordial instincts to kill without feeling...without passion... without judgment...without judgment. Because it's judgment that defeats us.*** Clearly, if the production crew of Legally Blonde had any judgment, the movie would have been scrapped during pre-production. And I repeat the words of Kurtz, "...Because it's judgment that defeats us." Another intriguing parallel between Legally Blonde and Apocalypse Now is "production culture." Apocalypse Now was filmed in the jungles of the Philippines. Trust me, this was no Club Med! The actors and crew became violently ill and lost a lot of body weight from tropical diseases, Martin Sheen suffered a heart attack as well as mental problems, and the Director, Francis Coppola, came close to losing his home due to financial problems. They were lucky to eat one meal per day consisting of rice and unknown meat substances. According to the account by Sofia Coppola in Hearts of Darkness: A Film Maker's Apocalypse, the actors and crew came close to experiencing first hand what our Vietnam soldiers experienced living in the jungles of Vietnam (minus the combat of course). Likewise in Legally Blonde, Reese Witherspoon, and the other actors and crew relocated for two months to Cambridge Massachusetts, to film on location. It was shot during spring, so the weather was relatively warm, but not too hot and humid like it is during the summer months. Additionally, Reese sat in on a few classes at Harvard Law School so she could get a first-hand experience of the lifestyle of a law student. She even read a few pages of one of the books that typical law students read. Most people will see Legally Blonde and think, "This movie is so bad I can't believe it." But is it? Clearly not. It is a masterpiece that may go unrecognized for decades to come. Hopefully this world will give it a chance and look for the underlying brilliance!
Rating: Summary: Lovely Elle Woods Review: At a time when I thought I would never genuinely laugh again, this movie brought me laughter. Elle Woods is an incredible heroine, who overcomes stereotypes to give a fresh, funny, and moving piece of entertainment.
Rating: Summary: LEGALLY DUMB BLONDE! Review: In the crappy tadition of teen movies of today, "Legally Blonde" decides to show too much of it with stupid, dumb characters with no brain, crappy music, and an overall dumb plot that's been done way TOO MUCH in all these other sh***y movies. I'm getting so sick of these kinds of films and I just wish Hollywood would stop making them. A no-brainer turkey indeed!
Rating: Summary: Legally Blonde Review: Reese Witherspoon shines in this movie. It's a great girl-power flick (in truth, one of the best pure chick flicks out there). Witherspoon plays Elle Woods, a blonde CULA student (president of her sorority and homecoming queen, too) who gets dumped by her boyfriend Warner, who is heading off to Harvard Law school next year. He says he wants to break up with her, because she's not "serious" enough for him. As Warner puts it, his family expects a lot of him (he comes from a line of country-clubbing senators) and he needs a "Jackie, not a Marilyn". So Elle doesn't get mad, she decides to apply to get into Harvard! She has a few doubters, but she insists she can do it, as she has a 4.0 and ends up scoring a 179 in her LSATS. Go Elle! When she makes it to Harvard, Elle is--very much so, at first--discriminated against as a blonde (and especially for the way she dresses, looks and acts) she still tries to be nice to everyone. I really admired that about her. I recommend this movie a lot!
