Summary: cute comedy
Review: Drew Barrymore makes for a delightful heroine in the cute comedy NEVER BEEN KISSED, a very enjoyable film.Riding high on the success of THE WEDDING SINGER and EVER AFTER, Barrymore also enjoyed great acclaim for her performance here too. Barrymore plays Josie Geller, a junior copy-editor at a newspaper company, who is given an under-cover assignment to get into a high school and expose the underbelly of a seemingly harmless facade. Her own high school experience was less that great (think of such films like HAIRSPRAY, ROMY & MICHELE, SUPERSTAR and MURIEL'S WEDDING, then stick them together), and still cringes at the mere memory. Her struggle to fit back in is thwarted when she finds herself falling for one of her teachers, while catching the eye of the school stud, and her moronic brother (David Arquette) muscling in on the fun. A very delightful film, featuring Molly Shannon (SUPERSTAR), Leelee Sobieski, Garry Marshall, Jeremy Jordan, Michael Vartan and John C. Reilly.

Summary: A girl becomes a woman...
Review: Due to the nature of the title of Never Been Kissed, I did away with the popcorn and sat dipping strawberries in Devonshire cream. It seemed more suited for a romantic comedy. Drew Barrymore brings a sweet, stumbling innocence to a story where you just know her character is going to trip over her feet and she does. I thought Drew really became the nerdy character she was meant to portray. LeeLee Sobieski also was convincing as a nerd, yet gets her night in the spotlight later in the movie. You have to watch the movie until her brother gets involved in her undercover story to really get emotionally tied up in the story. He brings great humor to the screen with all the stories he tells about his sister to make her more popular. If you have nightmares about returning to high school (and I do), then you will even enjoy the story more. Being I spent much of my times in high school in the library or working on a scientific theory, I could relate to how some people might feel in school, yet I was wise enough to stay out of the way of the tormenting crowd by pretty much living in my own fantasy world and reading books. I did come out of my shell in college, but high school just seemed like a strange world to me, especially growing up overseas. (I didn't get the reason why the teenage Josie never washed her hair.....seemed a bit strange, even nerds do take baths...I am sure!) One has to realize that if there were no geeks, you would not be reading this. There would be no computers as far as I can tell. Like they say, the geeks in high school become your boss later, so you better be nice to them ;). The truth be told, everyone has a place in life and in this movie, the issue of keeping people down is addressed quite nicely. One could say Josie was a late bloomer. It was quite funny when she said: "I can be out of control." and then tried not to fix a name plate on the office door which was noticeably crooked. Josie is a copy editor and wants to be a reporter, yet she is geared for order and control, not excitement and adapting easily to new situations. When she is required to act like she is 17 and go back to high school and make friends with the cool kids, she almost can't pull it off. By the end of the movie she is a completely different person. The end of this movie is spectacular and by that time you are caught up in the moment and want the movie to end the way it does. While some say this was predictable, I didn't feel that the plot was that ordinary. It seemed creative to me and I was never sure which way the story would go. One would hope.... Dave McCoy.....that there was a lack of chemistry between the high school student and her teacher. There is an undercurrent of attraction that blossoms later, but did you really expect a teacher to break the rules? He is definitely attracted to her and they have a "playful" almost romantic scene when painting. This is a story about a girl growing up and becoming a woman and for us women, that is a beautiful story. If you enjoyed Drew's acting in this movie, don't miss Ever After. Both have a few crude moments I wish were not in the movie, but that seems to be the way it goes. There was a definite sexualization of the youth, but that is to be expected in movies these days. Would your mother have let you leave the house dressed the way some of these women were....I seriously doubt it! I didn't see this as a movie for teens, but rather as a movie for adults who were reminiscing about their days in high school. All I can say is, it has sure changed!

Review: How could anyone ever give this movie a bad review? If you did then you are WAY to picky. This movie is so great. It is very enjoyable and entertaining. It also very funny and romantic,with a great message to it.The ending was the best ending to a movie I have ever seen! If you haven't seen this movie yet,see it!Trust me you won't regret it.

Review: First of all, I must say that I was shocked and appalled when I read the official Amazon review for this movie. Never Been Kissed is one of my all time favorite movies, and I cannot imagine anyone saying such nonsense about such a great movie. I thought Drew Barrymore was excellent as Josie Gellar and totally believable as a geeky copy editor whose first real assignment as a reporter is to go back to high school. Once there, Josie quickly realizes that her second high school experience is not going much better than the first. However, she is helped on her quest to popularity by her brother, Rob, convincingly played by David Arquette. Once she has finally been accepted by the "cool" crowd, Josie realizes that there are more important things than being popular, such as her totally hot English teacher, played by Michael Vartan, whom she has fallen in love with. I must say that if I had an English teacher that looked like that when I went to high school, I might have made it to class more! All in all, Never Been Kissed is a wonderful movie about a woman finding success, love and happiness. Excellent!!

Summary: Disappointing
Review: I expected a formulaic , cookie-cutter story. Drew is likeable - and did evoke a lot of sympathy - but really - the movie was mostly painful to watch. 1. How come, at 25, it hasn't occured to her to make a wardrobe and "hair color" change. I'm not saying people need to alter their hair color to be beautiful, but she was going in the other direction - downplaying her natural prettiness as best she could. I'm a bit older than 25, and by 25, I had a much better clue about how to dress, etc, to my best advantage. 2. Then, how did she figure out that she should get her hair chopped and blonded in order to make herself look a little better? Did Molly Shannon's character clue her in? Why didn't she help her out before? They seem close - close enough that maybe she might say to her once "Hey, You'd look raeally great in this outfit" - or "I'd bet you'd be a knockout with short hair!" 3. Why on earth did the teacher fall in love with her? She was as awkward and giddy as one would expect a 17 year old to be, and yet - had very little to recommend her to an older person (20 something) other than her insight into shakespeare. 4. I can cope with her gaining a good fashion sense at the end of the movie, but where did she get the confidence for the last scene, as well as - where did she get the grace in her movements. She moved horribly through much of the movie and the suddenly - graceful? If it had been "Geek goes back to highschool and fits in better due to really being 25, and having natural maturity and "cool" that life can give you, as well as can the reduction in the hormone rush of the teens and early 20s." the movie would have been good. But it was Geek goes back, is still a geek, endures painful humiliation until her brother saves her tail. If he could help her become popular this time out, why not last time? All in all - just a hodge podge. The ending scene was sweet and romantic, yadda yadda yadda, and was fun to watch, but it didn't gel with the rest of the movie.

Summary: Best movie I have seen of Drew Barrymore so far........
Review: This movie is a teenage movie for everyone who loves comedy. This is a movie about high school, but also about a young woman who needs to find herself. I love this movie so much, because I can see myself in it. I was also teased at school. It's not much fun. This movie is a feel good movie ! In this movie, Drew Barrymore plays Josie, a reporter for the Chicago Sun Times. When she finally gets her break and gets to go undercover, she ends up in high school as a 17 year old girl. She tells this to her brother, and he let her remember how things were for her in high school, which was all forgotten. "Do you remember what they called you in high school" says Rob (David Arquette who plays her brother). "Josie Grossie" Josie replies. She all remembers and tells to herself in the mirror that it is a very bad idea. Her first day is a complete disaster: Anita (Molly Shannen plays her colleague) has picked out the worst outfit you could imagine. The second disaster is that she comes late in class and has to wear the sombrero (a Spanish hat). And the third disaster is that she says that she comes from Billy- Bali (suburb of Bali) and tells that her parents are sheep farmers. And all these disasters are happened in like 15 minutes. After a while when she almost has given up hope, her brother Rob comes and help her out as the popular kid. He helps her to be popular, so that she can get her story. Her boss (Garry Marshall) is filming everything she's doing, since Josie can't find her story. Josie falls in love with her teacher Sam Coulsen (Michael Vartan), and her boss has found her story: Sam Coulsen. "It's like the Young and the Restless I am watching everyday" says her boss. She refuses to do it! And at the school prom Josie blows her cover and tells everyone who she really is. If you want to know the end of this movie, you will have to see it, because I am not going to tell... This movie is a great movie with a lot of humor and good actors. SEE THIS MOVIE !!!

Summary: It's dumb, but somehow it works
Review: Never Been Kissed is a sloppily plotted, unevenly acted, and often trite movie, sometimes almost unbearably uncomfortable to watch and filled with moments to make you wince, and yet, somehow, magically, and all thanks to Drew Barrymore, it works. I'm not even a fan of Drew Barrymore, but after the first half hour of the movie, her convincing and engaging performance made me completely forget the plot holes, one-dimensional supporting characters, unbelievable and yet completely predictable plot twists, and wasted conflict opportunities; by the end of the movie, I was rooting for her character all the way. It's a strange movie, uneven and illogical, but I ended up enjoying it enough to buy the DVD. Despite the multitude of problems, this is an entertaining and satisfying comedy.
