Summary: A DVD review
Review: Being originally a Southern Californian, I found this film to be a hilarious satire on LA life. I don't think a East Coast person would get some of the humor. Not being from the LA area, even I missed some of the jokes. None-the-less, a funny look at LA and Southern Californian lifestyles. The DVD doesn't have that much to offer as the description seems. The production notes were the best giving some background on the making of the script and the film. The "hidden menus" are just short interviews with the director. The featurette is just an extended trailer for the most part running about 7 minutes. A must film to own if you are thinking of moving to Southern California or are a transplant such as myself.

Review: This is a must see for anyone in LA or thinking about moving there. Steve Martin delivers a hilarious and fully enjoyable performance. It proves once again that he is the King of Comedy. This movie is the best depiction of LA living that has been put to screen. Whether you are ordering a coffee from the corner shop or diving down the 405 freeway, this movie tells you how us Southern Californians really live (with a little exaggeration and a lot of laughs)!

Summary: Frothy on top, tasty underneath
Review: Saw Bowfinger, decided I had to see this after reading comparisons. Don't feel L.A. Story is as flat-out funny, but there's an excellent balance between humor and romance. (There are some can't-miss humor moments -- gridlock sequence, open season, weather reports, art museum, traffic sign.)Martin is at his most sympathetic, makes a good romantic lead. Not a Sarah Jessica Parker fan, but she succeeds as an adorable spinning scene-grabber here. There are also some fun cameos, including pre-Star Trek Patrick Stewart. Only gripe is that Victoria Tennant as female lead seems a bit inert and emotionless as a foil to Martin's character, and the British reserve/eccentric vs. L.A. extrovert/wacko angle is predictable and not very funny. I guess they were married when it was made, but the chemistry feels weak at times. It only shows because everything else is note-perfect. Definitely worth seeing; a lighter-than-air romantic comedy that avoids the cynicism of some of Martin's other work. This L.A. doesn't exist, but it should. The traffic sign deserves a screen credit!

Summary: Love and comedy in southern California
Review: As a sci-fi fan, it's strange this is one of my all-time favorite movies. Funny and 'feely', this is classic Steve Martin humour. It makes you feel okay to be human, have faults, and be in love. I can watch it over and over again. To the 'Reviewer in KC', check out Enya (Watermark), I think it's what you're looking for.

Review: This is a superb comedy and love story in one. I have never encountered a movie so subtle and blatant, concurrently, in its comedic approach. A must see for romantics and cynics alike. This film is truly a labour of consumate genius.

Summary: My favorite movie of all time
Review: This movie has the best stars, the best location in the US, and the best love story I've ever seen on film, both funny and touching. Steve Martin's wacky weatherman idea was very original, as was the talking freeway sign (you gotta see it to believe it). The filmakers for this film chose both vintage and current music for this film, a nice touch. This is the movie to buy!

Summary: Martin's Masterpiece
Review: Steve Martin loves L.A.. To many of us, L.A. is a disaster waiting to happen, a desert city that shouldn't exist at all. Martin sees a magical land filled with charming eccentrics, the unashamedly self-obsessed, and odd priorities. It's a world whose rules we outsiders cannot hope to fathom, but nice to visit through Mr. Martin's eyes. The DVD is minimalistic. The movie, a trailer, a brief featurette, some bio info. The picture is good, if a bit soft. As I have a VHS copy of this movie as well, I started both and flipped back and forth between VHS on my video input and DVD on my S-Video input; the difference is amazing. My 3 year old cassette is so muddy that it nauseates compared to the eternally bright colors, high resolution and decent contrast of the DVD.

Review: This is one of Martin's best and one of the greatest comedies ever made. The writing and acting are perfect. Especially Sarah Jessica Parker as SanDeE, she is a classic character. Martin is very good too. The signboard is the best I think though. If you like steve martin or just comedies this movie is for you. I love this movie and always will.
