Review: Serendipity is a light, romantic comedy that is hard to resist. It stars the always solid John Cusack and the beautiful Kate Beckinsale. The chemistry between the two leads is phenomenal and really makes the movie what it is.The two character's struggle to find each other is very entertaining to watch, if not predictable. But, what's wrong with a movie being predictable, yet fun to watch? Nothing at all. The movie is extremely funny in certain parts, but comedy is not the main attraction. Serendipity has a good meaning that will either put people off or engross them. You either have to believe in fate or not to like this movie. And even if you don't, it's still enjoyable to watch. Serendipity is a cute movie that should be mandatory for first date couples to watch. Even the men will enjoy this one. 4 Stars

Summary: no car chases... no laser beams... no mutant aliens...
Review: understand this: i'ma GROWN man... i'm sarcastic, stubborn, full of myself (sometimes!), my fingernails are rough, i havent shaved in weeks and to top it all off, i could use a shower... i'ma GROWN man!!! i like action flicks, i like horror... someone gotta loose a limb in the first three minutes or else i'm bored! get it? and yet this lil sappy-as movie done moved me to feelin really, really good (if not all the way romantic!)... i cant explain it... there's nothing groundbreakin about it, no nudity, no profanity (that i can recall!)... just a real simple love story... i love this even when it's predictable. THIS IS AN EXCELLENT MOVIE... almost makes me a true john cusack fan... this provides a beautiful lil fantasy to get lost up in... if you gotta fall for one sappy movie in your life, then this one should do it for ya.... sum.

As soon as I heard the strains from "Black Eyed Dog", one of my least favorite Nick Drake songs, I knew I was onto something. The director's commentary track mentions that this is not a snip from Nick's original, but a rerecorded snippet (the rights cost too much).
Here's a fine little "chick flick" that I drank with my eyes after borrowing the DVD from my niece. Of course, I'm an emotionally hungry lifelong bachelor (so far, I figure I'll meet someone at some department store).
This movie is easy to watch time after time, and for the most part gets better with every viewing. I could have done without that kid in the devil suit.
This one blows away Nora Ephron's "Sleepless in Seattle" and "You've Got Mail", and even her best, "When Harry Met Sally". Okay, so that's not much of a claim. It's even set (for the most part) in Ephron's beloved New York City. The plot lulls the viewer into a false sense of security, misleads, evades, and in a way quite appropriate to the mysterious force that seems to toy with the lead characters. The movie manages to remain fresh and entertaining and is romantic without being cloying or annoying.
... along with this movie, it'll be good for your heart.

Summary: Chance or destiny?
Review: Do you believe in love? Fate? That everything happens for a reason? Astrology? Premonitions? Near misses of should-of-beens? Well, neither do I. However, this film is full of ALL of these things and come to find out the story is delightful! John Cusack is a way-cool actor. He always plays the type of guy you want to root for to prevail in some off-the-wall struggle. Kate Beckinsale is nothing short of gorgeous and her British accent is a charming ingredient of this comical look at a love-story-gone-awry. Cuscack & Beckinsale play a couple of New Yorkers who "accidently" meet up one night. Turns out, they REALLY hit it off. Due to a sequence of unlikely events, they are separated and go their separate ways. A few years later both are supposed to be married - almost on the same day. Only problem is (you guessed it) by now they're supposed to marry different people. At the eleventh hour both start having second thoughts and begin having reveries about their one enchanting evening together. The balance of the story traces their attempts to get back in touch with each other while their friends believe they've gone looney. The result is what is quite possibly the funnest & sweetest Romantic Comedy since WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING. If you have a date tonight, I would SERIOUSLY recommend this film. If you don't have a date tonight, find one & then watch it together. As a last resort, watch it by yourself. Remember: everything happens for a reason! OK, OK, maybe it doesn't - but that doesn't mean you shouldn't buy this DVD!

Summary: fortunate meeting twice
Review: Adorable & funny romantic movie. A movie to watch with your guy/lady......just the two of you. The movie seems to go by so fast because there's always something good happening in most scenes. Based in the past 20 years, this movie would be in my top 10 Funny Romantic Comedy List. What a great friend Molly Shannon (former cast in SNL) is in this movie. As for not giving all 5 stars rating: dvd movies should be available in Full Screen as well. ...or even better: every dvd movie comes in both full and widescreen (just to make everyone happy). That's probably the only neg. thing I can say about the DVD feature, but the actual movie is great!

Summary: A very enjoyable film!
Review: I am NOT a hopeless romantic and I generally stay away from romanc-ey, "chick-flick" type films. But this one was entirely well done, with wonderful screen-play, directing, and acting. Of course, the outcome is easily predicatable (they get together) but the film held my interest so much that the predictability aspect was easily suspended. In short, this film touched my soul, was thoroughly entertaining, and caused me to ponder fate more closely - long after the film was over.

Summary: Strong Talent always prevails
Review: When I rented this movie I wasn't sure what to think. Being a Classic film buff I can be rather critical. What drew me to it was John Cusack, Always a huge fan of his. After watching this I still am. Sure, you probably have seen it done before..Two people meet and feel that fate has something to do with it. In my opinion its the way the talent delivers themselves. Any Guy that watches this movie can almost feel they are John Cusack in the position he is in. Any girl can feel like Kate Beckinsale. You pull for them, You relate with them. Set in the beginning with a beutiful New York Christmas and great supporting cast of Molly Shannon and Eugene Levy. Its a solid movie that you can feel good watching over and over again.

Review: This is one of the better romantic comedies I have seen in a while.
John Cusack (Jonathan) meets Kate Beckinsale (Sara) in a department store while Christmas shopping. They spend the night getting to know each other and even though both are involved in other relationships, are very drawn to each other.
But, Sara decides that they must leave it all up to fate. She writes her name and phone number in a book and sells it to a used bookstore for him to be able to find. And he writes his name and phone number on a $5 bill that he hopes will find it's way back into her hands someday.
Years later, they are both days away from getting married to other people and are haunted by the question of what could have been.
This was a funny and entertaining movie. John Cusack is adorable as always!!! And Jeremy Piven (who plays Jonathan's best friend) is hysterical!
Definitely worth watching!

Summary: Serendipity- A Fortunate Accident
Review: Serendipity- A Fortunate Accident This movie is magical from the start! Jonathan (John Cusack) and Sara (Kate Beckinsale) meet in Bloomingdales after accidentally reaching for the last set of gloves available in the store. Jonathan agrees to let Sara have the gloves if she will treat him to an ice cream. This leads to them spending a brief time together in which Sara teaches Jonathan the meaning of Serendipity and how she lives life by following signs laid out for her by fate. She determines that it is how we interpret the signs that determines whether we are happy or not. Before long, Jonathan and Sara realize they have to part. As they prepare to say farewell, Jonathan asks for Sara's phone number. Unfortunately as Sara goes to hand the phone number to him, it is blown away by the wind. Sara feels that the wind was a sign telling her not to give Jonathan her number. Jonathan feels that if fate didn't want them to know each other they wouldn't have met in the first place. Sara concludes that if they are meant to be together the signs will lead them back to each other. And so, Sara asks Jonathan to write his number on the back of a five dollar bill so that Sara can give it to a vendor. In turn, she writes her number in the inside of a used book and states she will hand it into a random used book store. If Jonathan manages to find the book and/or she manages to find the five dollar bill they will be able to find each other. Sara gives Jonathan a kiss on the cheek and they part. And so begins another romantic comedy. It is several years later when Jonathan and Sara are both engaged to other people that fate begins to give them little signs pointing them in the direction of each other. Now this movie is like a typical romantic comedy. We have our two leads and we pretty much know they are going to get back together by the end of the movie. However with romantic comedies it's also about the journey to get there, and Serendipity is certainly a fun journey. John Cusack is charming and definitely has you in his corner; Jeremy Piven as Jonathan's best friend is extremely funny and has a charm all of his own; Molly Shannon pulls of the role of Sara's best friend with great flair; and Kate Beckinsale is both amazingly sweet and it goes without saying- amazingly beautiful. The directing is very passionate and has some very special moments, possibly as the director Peter Chelsom's work was improving the more time he spent on the movie. You realize this when you hear about the making of the movie via the special features on the DVD. You learn that the very first scene where Jonathan and Sara meet was actually a reshoot shot months later. You get to see the original version of that first scene as a deleted scene and you can definitely notice the difference. The deleted scenes also have a commentary. As for other special features, they include a Theatrical trailer, a Starz Encore "On The Set" featurette which is pretty in-depth considering the 20 minute length of it, a stills gallery, Storyboard Comparisons and the Director's Production Diary which is very detailed (it wouldn't hurt to have had a narrator narrate it though). Considering the amount of deleted scenes, this DVD could probably qualify as a Special Edition. All in all, an excellent DVD for an excellent movie.

Review: Another great John Cusack movie. Serendipity is a chick flick, but even guys will appreciate this, because we've all been in this guys shoes before. When New Yorker Jonathan meets Brit beauty Sara. They share a few perfect hours together before parting ways, leaving future encounters to her quirky obsession with fate. They're about to marry their respective fiances, and urgently hoping for destiny to bring them back together. Under the casual direction of Peter Chelsom this starry-eyed romance offers no surprises, but it has a comforting familiarity, made warmer by the easy chemistry of the leads, with obligatory best-friend support by Molly Shannon and long-time Cusack pal Jeremy Piven.
