Rating: Summary: Well, do you believe in fate? Review: (If I loved it so much, why not 5 stars? Well, personally, I didn't like the ending.) I believe that everyone wants to believe in the undescribable and the unseen but it's difficult to. It's totally your call when it comes to love. No one is there to tell you the truth. People say that it's right in front of you but you are not seeing it... Before I watched this film I wasn't expecting much at all. Maybe just a bit of a tear at the end... But what happened was me crying in the beginning of the movie~! But it's not just that, this movie is just so amazing: You feel this sparkling in your heart whole while watching it. I thought it was going to be cheesy...and maybe it is...to most of the people...but who wouldn't want to believe in something beatiful called "fate"?
Rating: Summary: Happy Tearworthy! Review: If you love romantic comedies and stories about fate than you will absolutely love "Serendipity." John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale make you fall in love with the story! Not only is the story lighthearted and warm, but it is also suspenseful! "Serendipity will keep you at the edge of your seat the whole way through! I recommend this movie to everyone, even if you hate romantic comedies! You are sure you be in a happy mood after watching.
Rating: Summary: A happy coincidence! Review: Terrific commentary on fate! What if... What if you met the person of your dreams... the RIGHT person? And what if, you had the perfect date--even though you were both dating other people. And then, what if you let fate take its course and somehow it brought you back together??? yeah, very cool. In between is some memorable and entertaining things between John Cusack and his sidekick [You look like a jackass!] and some commentary on love, life, ambition, and keeping the spark going. Just a solid movie.
Rating: Summary: Heartwarming, romantic movie Review: Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack are so enjoyable as fated lovers in this wonderful romantic comedy. Great supporting cast, fun twists and a general sense of "aww!" pervades the entire movie. It's one you'll want to purchase and watch over and over. Although the portrayal of New york in Christmas is sometimes questionable (i.e., girl walking down street in short sleeved shirt and scarf) it's a very cute look at fate and how sometimes we have to look at signs as more than a coincidence.
Rating: Summary: A Great Movie With a Great Soundtrack to Match Review: This movie was a great movie. I don't believe it was a chick flick, because I viewed it with some heterosexual male friends who liked it a lot. After the movie was over & I asked my male friends if they thought it was a chick flick & they said "no". One of my male friends said that the relationship that John Cusack's character had with his buddy (the obituary writer) saved the film from being coined as a chick flick. Any man who has had a good male friend, whom he shared the details of his love life with, can appreciate this movie. Any man or woman who has ever been in love can appreciate this movie as well. My favorite part of the movie was the end, which some people don't realize, but Cusack actually cries when he reunites with Beckinsale's character. For a romantic comedy, or any movie for that matter, this was acting at its finest hour. Can you imagine meeting someone and losing touch with them, whom you believe may be the love of your life? Have you have dreamed about him or her day and night for years, wondering if God will allow you to be reunited? Did this longing ever cost you your fiance'? This is truly a powerful film, probably more than the writers, producers, and directors even realized. This acting is just as powerful as its theme. What was equally intriguing was the soundtrack. Annie Lennox's remake of Bob Marley's Waiting in Vain was supreme. David Gray's "January Rain" was simply divine. "January Rain" was played when Beckinsale & Cusack's characters were finally reunited. It is a beautiful song and it will surely move you to research his cds, as I have, and purchase them. I have come to love the musician David Gray's work, and if, as an artist, your work is an expression of who you are, then I love David Gray too. You all will find and appreciate the treasure of his music and songwriting. Someone should have won some awards for the movie, the soundtrack, or both. I am certain that anyone who has ever loved someone can appreciate this movie. If you find that you can't, perhaps you have never been in love or allowed yourself to be in love.
Rating: Summary: Cusack and Piven: Always a good bet Review: John Cusack and Jeremy Piven go way back as childhood acting buddies in Evanston, Illinois. Any time they appear in a movie together it's worth a look. Check out 'Grosse Pointe Blank,' 'Runaway Jury,' plus Piven bit parts in early Cusack films like 'The Grifters,' 'The Player' and Cusack/Crowe classic 'Say Anything.' Here in 'Serendipity,' their buddy schtick is in top form. Also worth noting: Kate Beckinsale, who can't possibly look as good ever again as she does in this film. Except in this one out-of-place scene where - trapped in a rainstorm - she unsuccessfully tries to light up a cigarette. In the theater I saw this in, the audience literally groaned with disgust and disappointment. I'm not sure if director Peter Chelsom got hoodwinked into some bizarre product placement here, but it was a completely offputting moment that upset the momentum of the film a great deal. A second 'also worth noting': Cusack's erstwhile fianceé is played by Bridget Moynahan, who is also known for playing Mr. Big's fianceé in early 'Sex and the City' storylines. [She's the one who Carrie nicknames 'the idiot stick figure with no soul.'] Meanwhile, Beckinsale's erstwhile fiancee is played by John Corbett, who - coincidentally enough - became Carrie's fiancé Aidan in another 'Sex' story arc. Will it go round in circles...
Rating: Summary: Skip it! Review: This movie was awful, don't waste your time! It looks cute and sounds like a cute idea, but it just drags on and is not funny.
Rating: Summary: surprisingly likable Review: I enjoyed this picture. very great chemistry by John Cusack(Identity, High Fidelity, Grosse Pointe Blank, Better Off Dead) and Kate Beckinsale( Pearl Harbor, The Last Days Of Disco, Laurel Canyon and Underworld2003). Cusack and Beckinsale have a once in a lifetime oppurtunity and they go their seperate ways. then years later the 2 still think of one another. Cusack is getting married and Beckinsale is engaged to John Corbett(TV's Lucky). plus theres great fun by Jeremy Piven(The Family Man, Old School, Judgment Night and PCU) as Cusack's friend who helps him look for the girl and a funny part by Eugene Levy(American Pie 1,2,3, Like Mike, Armed and Dangerous and Almosy Heroes) as the clerk. funniest scene is when Levy gives Piven a neck rub, Ilaughed my ass off. great fun
Rating: Summary: simply perfect Review: Serendipity is absolutely perfect. The story line is magical and the acting is superb.. bravo and encore.. the best romantic comedy you'll ever see.. A movie for true romantics!
Rating: Summary: The perfect romantic comedy Review: I've been pretty dissapointed with the romantic comedies lately. Then Serendipity came along, and I was so intrigued by the story line and concept, I felt like I was sucked right into the movie. This truly is a great film and I would recommend it to everyone. I've only read a handful of negative reviews on this film, and it seems the critics are pretty lame and unromantic themselves. Instead of seeing the beauty of love and destiny, they take extra steps to find useless negative things about the movie that are irrelevant. Enjoy this movie for what it is.
