Rating: Summary: Not too bad sap. Review: This movie is pretty much a typical Hollywood forumla romance flick. However, there are a few differences. First, theres John Cusack, a character actor/leading man whose mere prescence tends to make even the most meaningless drivel watchable. Thankfully, SERENDIPITY is not a bad movie and Cusack's prescence just makes it a little better. What really captured my attention in the film was the question of fate and destiny. The movie asks the question, is there a grand scheme to life? The question is answered with a verifying yes, but not after forcing the viewer to analyze the question. Overall, not too bad of a movie. It has a happy ending and is worth viewing to see Cusack and Kate Beckinsale.
Rating: Summary: Very interesting movie Review: I think any movie that can evoke "Oh!"s simultaneously from a theater audience deserves many viewings. I just saw this Wednesday the 10th in theaters, and I liked it. I had a feeling I would like it, but for some reason I didn't know it had gotten so many good critic reviews! I thought the critics didn't like it! But Entertainment Weekly gave it an A minus, which is unusually good since I see mostly D's on their pages. This movie is about a couple who meet at Christmas in their twenties and rely on the power of serendipity (fortunate accidents) to keep them together. It's very good, and it leaves you feeling happier. The actors make the idea of serendipity very convincing, which might attract more viewers since many of us are more rational and don't believe in that. I think I do. Please watch this! It leaves you feeling great!
Rating: Summary: Fate has great things in store for us! Review: They meet at a NY department store by accident... err... because it was their destiny. They spend an unforgettable night together, like soulmates only can. Then fate again separates them leaving behind only their names and their phones written down on a $5 bill (his) and the first page of a copy of "Love in the times of cholera" (hers). As the years pass, they're both about to embark on separate new lives with their newfound loves when signs from their fates start slapping them in the face. They each decide to try and find each other, in a trip that is sure to entertain all the viewers, while it leaves you pondering the question: are our lives written on a page of a book somewhere?Kate Beckinsale, Pearl Harbor's Lieutenant Evelyn Stewart, and John Cusack ("America's Sweethearts," "High Fidelity," "Being John Malkovich" and many, many more...) star in this new romantic comedy from Miramax, that stands out way above the crowd of poor movies currently out there.
Rating: Summary: Serendipity was a great movie that can warm your heart. Review: This movie was full of romance, comedy, great actors and actresses, fantastic scenery, and moving music. Parts of this film will make you want to cry or laugh, or just have mixed emotions. I loved John Cusack in "Serendipity" and his pair-up with Kate Beckinsale was just plain perfect. Just the idea of fate would inflict the feeling of hope. You know what?? Just find out for yourself! I know that you'll go home happy and loving this movie!! =)
Rating: Summary: definitely a date movie Review: This movie is definitely a foreplay into an evening of romance. I highly recommend it... Other reviews can give you the plot and the casts... But what I will tell you is my date and I, like many other couples, as we walked out of the theater, we reminiscing about how we met and how we fell in love, and rekindling those sweet memories.
Rating: Summary: Light and funny: a perfect date movie Review: Kate Beckinsdale and John Cusack play a couple who remain barely connected through this enjoyable romantic comedy. Meeting by chance during the holiday season in the sort of fantasy NYC that probably didn't exist even before 9-11-01, they're immediately drawn to each other. Instead, Beckinsdale's character decides to leave it to fate whether the two of them should stay together. Fate decides yes, but not before separating them by a continent and a few years. With each thinking that they've lost the other, both Beckinsdale's Sara and Cusack's Trager find new loves who are both promising yet somehow manage to fall short of the fantasy figures each has made of the other. A series of impossible coincidences manage to keep each on the minds of the other. This has to be the least plausible movie to come out of Hollywood in ages. Yet it's irressistable fun. While some movies hope you can ignore the plot gaps or impossible leaps, "Serendipity" telegraphs each new contrivance. The flick also excels also on the strength of the supporting cast - Jeremy Piven as Cusack's pal who writes obits for the New York Times, Molly Shannen as a west-coast new-ager long jaded by her flighty culture, and Second-City alum Eugene Levy who seems to be popping up everywhere. Like the mysterious signs that keep our heroes from drifting too far apart, "Serendipity" seems impossibly slim, yet also hard to get out of your head.
Rating: Summary: Good clean fun! Review: This is one of the few clean films to come out in recent years that is not an animated feature. More movies should be made like this. Serendipity was one of my most awaited films for the Fall season. Unlike most films these days it is light and whimsical. It is just enjoyable to watch the two main characters work their way back to each other believing that if they are meant for each other then fate will keep them together. Both John Cusak and Kate Beckinsale are wonderful as their characters. Everyone should see this movie. I'm a guy and I loved this film despite the fact that it is supposed to be a chik-flik. The only thing I disliked about the movie was that it only lasted 90 mins. Sure hope when it is release to video that there any deleted scenes from the film are added. This film is really more suited for Christmas, but I would watch it anytime. We need more romantic comedies especially right now in the midst of the recent depressing events. Perhaps Hollywood will see the need to make more films like this and less action & violence movies which tell the same story over and over.
Rating: Summary: Akin to Sleepless in Seattle and While You Were Sleeping Review: This film revolves around the question: "Will these two people ever realize they are fated to be together? - similar to the theme of Sleepless in Seattle and While You Were Sleeping - and, in this case, it works. The timing is also perfect for the release of this movie, and I'm assuming that plenty of viewers will be eager (as I was) to escape for a few minutes from the pain and stress of recent events and enjoy a simple, well-acted romantic comedy. John Cusack shines, along with his friend from his Chicago theatre days, Jeremy Piven. Kate Beckinsale is excellent as a woman who is less than thrilled with Cusack at first sight, even refusing to keep his phone number (as a Cusack fan, I found this a tad unbelievable but necessary to make the film work). If the actors and plot weren't so finely tuned, this would err on the side of pure sappiness but it manages to stay afloat - and, even more miraculously, be quite enjoyable. You'll like the ups and downs of this one.
Rating: Summary: AMAZING SERENDIPITY Review: Serendipity is an absolutely amazing film. I've seen it four times already (and I do really have a life), but I just can't let go of its magic. In fact, I'll probably go again. I feel like it was made just for me, and that's what distinguishes a great movie from the rest. John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale have the greatest on-screen chemistry I have ever seen in my life. I just can't describe how this film makes me feel. The whole cast is amazing and it's beautifully directed and edited as well, not to mention the fantastic soundtrack, which is the perfect compliment to the film. I just want to thank everyone (and I do mean everyone) who was a part of the making of this film. I am a major film buff and have seen hundreds and hundreds of films, but who would of thought that a simple little romantic-comedy-drama would have stolen my heart and become my favorite film of all time? Well, it happened, and no one was more surprised than me. I mean, I have always had my list of favorite films (some of which include The Godfather films, Clint Eastwood films, etc.), and romantic comedies were just not on that list until now. It really struck a nerve, so whatever you do, don't miss Serendipity. It's utterly and completely amazing.
Rating: Summary: pleased Review: I enjoyed this movie alot, and I wouldn't mind owning it, but I'm not going to because there was a scene in it. It wasn't between John and Kate, but her sister and boyfriend-it was totally unnecessary to show what they showed. They could have given you an idea w/o showing anything-I closed my eyes. So, I will be content to rent it and fast forward through the bad part. There wasn't much cussing in it either, which was very nice.
