Rating: Summary: What was all the hype about? Review: Really disappointing. Bill Murray is wasted here. I only laughed because I thought I was supposed to laugh. I did like Max's quirkyness but it was not enough to carry the whole movie. I feel cheated out of $30.00. My best advice is to rent before you buy.
Rating: Summary: Quirky people doing quirky things does NOT make a movie. Review: Question: How can you tell if someone is the geekiest, nerdiest, geeky-nerdy geek you've ever met? Answer: He thinks "Rushmore" is a great movie.
Rating: Summary: A memorable movie experience. Review: Now here is a movie you won't soon forget...you'll want to see it over and over. Be sure and turn the sound way up while you watch this because the music is by far the standout!...director Anderson has an uncanny knack for chosing just the right song to compliment a scene or montage. But while "Rushmore" is a unique movie and is an amazingly well-crafted film considering it's a sophmore effort for the makers (their first being "Bottle Rocket"), it still takes multiple viewings to understand some of the more ambiguous plot details and the script is unnecessarily crude in some places. But those gripes are a small part of overall enjoyable "Rushmore" experience. Still, they are enough of a distraction to warrant only a 4-star review from me (quite a departure from the ubiquitious, ad nauseum, 5-star Amazon reviews). But I will always recommend "Rushmore" to anyone...it's a quirky movie full of unique characters and fantastic music!
Rating: Summary: NO Hollywood Characters Found Here! Review: As I see it, Hollywwod has four standards for movie characters: MEN: #1--the aloof, gruff hero who turns out to have a heart of gold. #2--the fat, wacky sidekick who gets killed off. WOMEN: #1--the quirky, beautiful, unavailable, likeably ditzy heroine. #2--the unattractive, wacky and sexless best friend. In Rushmore, all these pitfalls are avoided. A brilliant character study of truly original creations! Max is hysterical in his drive, Blume is realistically pathetic. If you're sick of stereotypes and shoot 'em ups, rent Rushmore. The soundtrack is pretty killer too.
Rating: Summary: Fabulous Review: This film should win the film of the year. The thought and amazing detail that went into this picture was enough to draw me back to the theatre 3 times. This was so I did'nt miss a single line due to my laughing out loud. The humour is the kind that will only be well recieved by those inteligent enough to get some very smart, witty, sarcastic comedy. This might actualy be the unfortunate reason why Rushmore WONT get the recognition it rightfully diserves, from a society that applauds explosions and special effects before it cheers fantastic writing and flawless acting.
Rating: Summary: yeah, this is the one Review: These people are not lying to you. This movie is seriously one of the best ever. No kidding, you should really get it as soon as possible.
Rating: Summary: A really great movie Review: When I saw this at the movie theater I couldn't stop talking about it for days.I'm glad it still holds up months later.Everything is pretty stellar... the acting, the writing, the soundtrack!, and the direction. The way shots are framed in the movie is great, Wes Anderson really outdid himself.Bill Murray is astounding in his role! You'd expect that no-one would ever really care about some kid from a private school, but that really isn't the point of this movie. You can call it a "coming of age" story, and one of the best I've seen. The scenes that recreate the main character's school plays are probably my favorite parts of the film and make one wish that we had all had someone like that putting on plays at our school. Some people are categorizing this as a "dark comedy" but I tend to think that it's atually a really sweet story, being that it's about schoolboy crushes and realizing that just because you're talented doesn't make you infallible.I guess the way that it's done is a sort of strange breed of comedy but one that was totally fresh and enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: The Best Film of 1998? Review: If there was one movie that was overlooked and underappreciated in 1998 it was, without a doubt, 'Rushmore'. Everything you've heard about Bill Murray is true. He should have walked away with the little gold man. Actually, everybody in the film does a great job. And let's not leave out director Wes Anderson. He's given us another glint of hope that plot still triumphs over spectacle and the box office-minded.
Rating: Summary: Viva smart humor! Review: Thank God for Wes Anderson, and the people who fund his films- Rushmore is the rare kind of movie that renews your faith in the film industry. Subtle, witty, heart tugging, awesome.
Rating: Summary: A moving film Review: Amazing and fun, but has the heart of any great film. It is done very well and we really learn something about the characters. Every times I watch it I still get a tear in my eye. Enjoy it!
