Rating: Summary: Murray and Schwartzman hilarious! Review: Two words come to my mind when I think of this movie: absolutely brilliant! This movie is hilarious in its darkness and subtleties. Schwartzman is hilarious as the dorky 15 year old trying to do everything. If you're one of those people who consider yourself "cool" or need to be entertained without actually having to think, don't get this movie. This is a movie for those of us who don't really care too much about social standings(I'm a dork, yes I know:-).) Murray in his indifference and absolute hatred towards his family is magnificent. If you want off-beat humor, here it is folks. Also, I must say that the soundtrack is one with few equals, and I found myself singing along quite a bit.
Rating: Summary: Great comedy - a spectacular movie Review: Rushmore is easily one of my favorite comedy movies . . . ever. The cast is amazing and the movie is very well-written. This is a very enjoyable movie that can be serious and funny at the same time. Great . . . also a very very good soundtrack. All around good movie, a must-see.
Rating: Summary: WAIT for Special Edition DVD... Review: This is a great movie - but there are no extras on this DVD - just wait for the Criterion Special Edition to come out, early next year!
Rating: Summary: Curiously Polarized Reviews Review: Strange how most reviewers on this site give this film either one star or five. I just read all the one-star reviews, trying to get a sense of what kind of person doesn't like this movie, but I didn't come to any conclusion. I do, however, have a few pointers for anyone considering becoming a first-time viewer: (1) If you require a formulaic plot or structure, don't bother with Rushmore. I never had any idea where this film was going. (2) If you're too old to remember high school, rent something else. (3) If you have no interest in prodigal talent, stay away. (4) If embarassing or uncomfortable scenes in movies make you laugh, you might like Rushmore. (5) If you're eager to see this movie because Bill Murray is in it, watch Groundhog Day instead.
Rating: Summary: Rah Rah Max! Review: Startlingly original. Very funny. The whole cast is brilliant.
Rating: Summary: Rush out to rent this one Review: This is one of the funniest movies that I've ever seen. I'm a huge Bill Murray fun and I think this is one of his best performances. The battle between a old fart like Murray and a dork like Schwartzman for a lady's love makes for some hilarious moments. One of my favorite parts is the way Murray runs over Max Fischer's bike and carries it away. Sounds foolish, but it is good clean fun. Check out all of the clubs Fischer belongs too, it's a riot. I rate this up with the Adventures of Ford Fairlane as the one of the top movies in the 90's.
Rating: Summary: Hmm... humorless people seem to abound here Review: [see previous quote] "This movie blows What a terrific waste of time...I watched with several other people and we all hated it! Another reason to not listen to the critics." An excellent and cogent review. However, this man (sounds too much like a frat-boy comment to be otherwise) fails to realize that he is, like all others who "criticize" this movie, a "critic" -- not paid for it, though; however, I would have to agree that I should not listen to this "critic," as per his advice. The fact of the matter is that most people love this movie for obvious reasons. It is smart, darkly funny, and innovative. Murray gives his best performance in years, and all the other acting is superb. The quirky surrealism is hillarious. Get it today. You won't be let down.
Rating: Summary: We all want to be Max Fischer Review: One word describes this film: brilliant. I have never seen a better movie in my career of film watching. The acting is superb, as Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray shine as an amazing comedic duo. The soundtrack is gorgeous. Like The Big Lebowski, this is one of those films that will be remembered as the best of the 1990's. Watch it and love it. I promise you will.
Rating: Summary: Absoloutely Brilliant! Review: This is one of the best movies I have ever seen! This may be one of the few movies ever made that have deal with the male angst on such a true level. You need to go into this movie with an open mind (understand the movie is very dark and downright silly at points). The movie is full of metaphors for the male life cycle and our desire to be great and to find true love. The cast was positively perfect! The only reason I held back from giving it a full 5 stars, was because it weaved back and forth from being a "dark comedy" and more conventional one (and that got a bit muddied, infact my wife didn't like the movie at all because of that). I really think that this is worth 4-1/2 Stars, but there is no way to do this here yet. I am going to get this on DVD!
Rating: Summary: Original and enchanting Review: A true original, and even better than "Bottle Rocket" (Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson's first film). It is a crime that this movie did not recieve any Oscar nominations for best supporting actor, best original screenplay, etc. If you like movies that are smart without being cynical (and that is quite rare), you'll love Rushmore.
