Summary: A Great Film!
Review: I have seen this movie so many times, and I never get tired of it. I saw it twice in the theatres and dozens of times on video and I just bought the DVD. It combines great romance with witty humor, political intrigue and fine acting performances. Douglas is brilliant considering he plays a president who is too good to be true. Benning is charming and competent (it is great to see that the female lead is not a "damsel in distress", but rather a person in her own right). Martin Sheen is fantastic. However, the best performance was by Michael J. Fox, who plays a presidential advisor perfectly. The film was touching, exciting, humorous, dramatic and intelligent. The musical score was also fantastic and added much to the film. One of the best movies ever!

Summary: Good Movie - Horrible DVD
Review: This is a good movie, but DO NOT order the DVD. I have over 100 DVD's and this is by far the worst transfer I have ever seen. It will almost hurt your eyes by the end of the film from all the artifacts and harsh jagged lines.

Summary: Irresistible love story
Review: The American President is one of the best romantic comedies I have seen. While the president(Michael Douglas) is portraid as a little too good to be true, this movie is about the heart. The chemistry between Sydney and Andy is irresistible. You can't help yourself from falling in love with both characters and thinking to yourself "I want a relationship like that". One where you can't wait to be with the other person, and where no matter how busy you are, there's always time for that special someone.

Summary: impossible! ! !
Review: it would most certainly take more than a one liner to review this wonderful movie. I am 75 and this takes me back to a few centuries ago when they made movies that you wish you could never forget and I haven't. This movie you cpould happily take home with you and not want to throw-up!!!I wish I could shake rob reiner's hand for reminding me of what entertainment was. Most of the movies they try,{repeat try} to make have been dredged up from the sewer. You don't have any tallent to make the movies now and it happens THEY DON'T! ! ! thank you for allowimng me to talk about this one rose in in a briar patch. I am scotty winter from Stilwell, ok. Most call me "TIGGER"

Summary: I never get tired of watching this great movie
Review: "The American President" is a terrific movie about politics, romance, sex, and real life. Michael Douglas leads a terrific cast of characters that I love to hear talk to each other over and over again. I've seen this movie so many times, I nearly have it memorized. President Andy Sheppard (Douglas) is having problems pushing his crime bill through Congress, but those problems intensify when he finds himself falling for the beautiful environmental lobbyist Sydney Ellen Wade (Annette Bening). The press is all over them from every angle, and Sheppard's 63% approval rating is dropping like a rock. The romance in this story is sweet, but it takes second place to the witty dialogue written by "Sports Night" creator Aaron Sorkin, which makes every character equally enjoyable. Martin Sheen should have won an Oscar for his performance as White House Chief of Staff A.J. Mackinerny, and Michael J. Fox is terrific as Louis Rothchild, who delivers a great speech in the film. The two leads, Douglas and Bening, are great together, and for every moment they are on the screen together, we forget that we're watching a movie. Rob Reiner does a terrific directing job, and turns out a movie that surpasses "When Harry Met Sally."

Summary: Romantic political fantasy works perfectly
Review: "Did she say anything else about me?" the President asks his Chief of Staff while playing pool in the White House.

"No, but if you want, I can pass her a note before study hall."

Dialogue like that will keep you rivited from beginning to end. Reiner gives us a White House populated by people with integrity and intelligence, including a President who can learn that sometimes he needs to do his job instead of just trying to keep it. That's the fantasy part.

But we see the President and Sidney Ellen Wade, the lobbyist he falls in love with, endure plausible and realistic crises while trying to conduct their private lives on CNN. If you suspend disbelief that an honest person would not likely be President in this age, you will have no trouble enjoying this film immensely.

Summary: Great!
Review: This is one of my absolute favorite movies! The snappy dialogue, charming characters, funny situations make it a funny feel-good movie that I had to watch twice during finals week.

Summary: Romance and Politics - What a pair!
Review: We are roommates in college who have seen this film one too many times! Besides the brilliant writing and plot, the film contains great acting, an amazing orchestral score and a classic feel. It is definitely one to own!

Summary: You'll want to watch it over and over again ...
Review: I love it! It's a real "feel-good"-type movie ... Michael Douglas is believable as the President, but with the naivete of someone just starting to date again. Michael J. Fox is priceless! The President's speech at the end is the best part of the movie. "If only" ...! I also highly recommend the soundtrack -- very "presidential", but beautiful music.
