Summary: Tremendous Fun
Review: I really enjoyed this movie. I think it was probably the opening sequence that got me hooked. It was so sweet and cute and, really just a priceless moment in Jake and Melanie's childhood. The score fit so well with the shot that I was actually quite touched.

So, the storyline is pretty straight forward. I won't outline anything because that's a waste of my time and a terrible spoiler to those of you who have not yet seen the film. I actually appreciated this plot a lot more than I usually do with other romantic comedies, and what I liked about Reese Witherspoon - in this film - was the fact that she didn't have any of that ditzy, blondness that made me sick while watching Legally Blond. ...Melanie Carmichael/Smooter steadily gained my favor. Yes she's a ***** in the beginning of this movie and the decisions she makes wouldn't necessarily be what others would choose, but she's only human, right?

Josh Lucas' performance as Jake was terrific. Awesomely cute and 99% funny. Patrick Dempsey as Melanie's fiancee was equally brilliant. I liked the fact that he wasn't made out to be a jerk like so many other characters in his situation. However, there was lots of southern stereotyping going on and it makes me wonder how accurate the portrayal is. Considering the fact that this is Hollywood and the fact that Hollywood exaggerates everything, it's probably not that accurate. But that's all right. It's buckets of fun and I think that's what counts. And for country hicks like me, it's even more fun.

If you're looking for a comedy, I wouldn't recommend this movie. It's funny the first time you see it, then after that the jokes get old. This is the perfect movie for Friday night crashes on the couch with a buttery bag of popcorn and the remote humming in your hand.

Summary: Sweet Southern Surprise.
Review: I had expected that I was not going to like SWEET HOME ALABAMA. After all, as much as I like Reese Witherspoon, I knew this was going to be a chick flick. I knew the plot was going to be cliched. And I already knew how the film was going to end (it's a chick flick, there has to be a sappy happy ending). Well, I was pleasantly surprised that after watching the movie, I really enjoyed it.

I was able to really relate to the characters in the story. Their sweet Southern charm appealed to me so much more than most other cliche-filled chick flicks. As crazy as some of the characters are, they are totally believable to me, reminding me of people I have known in my own life. I guess that's because I grew up in a small town myself.

And that's where the difference lies. If you grew up in or have lived in a small, rural town--you'll probably be able to relate to the characters in this movie and thereby enjoy it. However, if you have no idea what rural America is like, then you probably won't be able to relate to this film, perhaps find it offensive, and not like it.

Summary: Chick Flick!
Review: This has all of the girl gets the guy stuff we like! Grab your popcorn and a blanket to curl up next to your man & force him to watch this romantic one with you! She has big dreams and heads to the city to fulfill them. When she thinks she has it all - she goes back home to realize that perhaps she already had it all and lost it when she went to the city. I don't want to give anything away - so I'll leave it that vague. Just know - girls will love this one! Guys - rent it for her tonite & see the results you get!

Summary: Fun!
Review: Sweet Home Alabamba is a fun, engaging film. Reese Witherspoon has really come in to her own. I loved her in "Legally Blond" and she is equally good in this film. The cast of characters are enjoyable, and the plot hums along nicely. It may not win any prestigious awards, but if you are looking for a movie that is completely entertaining and pleasurable, this is the film for you.

Summary: eh....
Review: Predictable, a little too cliched, and I expected better. Reese Witherspoon's charm doesn't work quite well as it did on "Legally Blonde." Since the synopsis is already given, there's no reason to repeat it here.

I might have liked this film better had I been a 16 year old girl, but since I'm in my 20s I just expected a better storyline. Its recycled, just like 99.9% of what Hollywood dishes out. I just hope whatever film Reese stars in next, that its much better than this one.

Summary: A Sweet Movie for a Couple
Review: I bought this movie right away after it came out on video. I usually never buy movies new, I wait for them to go on sale. This was a must-have!! Reese Witherspoon is a great actress, I am working on owning all her movies. I also look forward to July 2, 2003 when Legally Blonde 2 comes out. I would like to be in a similar situation as the movie, where everything works out in the end, and it all turns out great. I'm dreaming though, that's just the movies and we live in the real world...though I won't give up ;)

Summary: A sweet love story
Review: It must be the hillbilly and the romantic in me, but I thought this was a sweet movie. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it, so much so that we bought it. Reese Witherspoon is one of the freshest young talents on the market who has shown that she can play a very wide range of characters from Legally Blonde to the Importance of Being Ernest (one of my all-time favorites) to this one.

If you haven't seen it, rent it, and if you're like our family, you'll end up wanting your own.

Summary: Farm animals with underbites deserve each other
Review: Enough with Reese Witherspoon and the fascination of this "sweetheart". I mean, the press falls head over heels then everyone (as expected) does the same. She is Alicia Silverstone with an underbite and a kid...

Sweet Home Alabama doesn't do much for Witherspoon either. She is doing well and engaged to be married with a respectful companion. But our sweetheart decides to visit the farm once more to "tend to business". Well then our little critter falls for her bull again...end of story. Wow, what a great positive story, eh?

For those who prefer Checkers over Chess

Summary: A Breakthrough Film for Reese Witherspoon
Review: Reese Witherspoon is one of Hollywood's fastest rising stars, and her talents shine through in this wonderfully funny and romantic film. Witherspoon stars as Melanie Carmichael, a southern-born fashion designer who has relocated to New York City. There she meets Andrew Hennings, played by Patrick Dempsey. Andrew also happens to be the son of the Mayor of New York City, played by Candice Bergan. Andrew and Melanie fall in love and plan to get married, but there's one small problem; Melanie is still married to Jake, played wonderfully by Josh Lucas.

Melanie returns to her Alabama home to get things settled with Jake, but Melanie also begins to take a look at her own life as well. Granted, she's become a very successful fashion designer with mentions in many fashion magazines, but is this what she really wants? Meanwhile, old feelings about Jake are beginning to surface. Jake was a rebel when the two were together earlier, but now he's settled down and has even opened his own glass-blowing shop.

Melanie decides to go on with her planned wedding to Andrew and Jake eventually decides to sign the divorce papers, but there's still one small matter; Melanie has never signed them either. What will she do?

I really enjoyed this wonderful film. Reese Witherspoon shines as Melanie, and Josh Lucas' performance as Jake is top notch as well. In the end, Melanie finds that you can take the girl from the south, but not the south from the girl. Watch this wonderful film, you'll be glad you did.
