Summary: More Rhesu's Monkey Pieces...
Review: ...In this Fantasy Fashion Designer Barbie role play kit, we are presented with two suspect homosexuals, the flamboyant Black assistant fashion designer, and the White "closet" (read: suspect) homosexual who has to have his disorder prescribed onto him, preferably in an embarrassing public denunciation. Barbie has to learn the need for her to script and typecast sexuality around her because she is the sensation (fem fatal) for persuasion predominant in the sphere of people around her. A Countrified Fantasy Fashion Designer Barbie Killer Instinct role play kit. And it is perhaps interesting microcosm of analysis to note the teddy bear appeal assigned to the openly gay Black character, artistic, talented and unflinching. ...Barbie's tantrums must be bloodlettings, her role is too prominent for softer and tactful, retiring or inhibited social display...she must be the "bell of the ball", the "political queen bee" with attendant phalanxes of maidens, a warrior aspect appreciated and encouraged in the feminine; ...Murphy Brown is the elder role model for Fashion Barbie, what its like to grow up, become a crotchety, semi retired blonde who has scaled political obstacles, become Mayor, wear a suit, and combat the depreciation of appearing older than a plastic toy fresh from the hot injection mold, while she dotes over the marital selection of her son. Bergen is what happens to Barbies when they grow old, a question that any would-be Barbie surely asks, once the question has been loaded for her through symbolism, because just as surely, the pretense of a "Barbie" precludes higher order thinking skills, any anticipatory or empathic reflection... "Barbie" being the conceited thing it is. That conceit is no more abundantly clear when the quarry queer, a meek and unassuming character is viciously stereotyped, "Why don't you just admit you're a homosexual!?", says R(h)eese. ..Barbie has the decidedly impertinent and socially devastating master stroke saved for when after tremendous wedding preparation, long distance coordination with the big city, hundreds of people, relatives, costumes, food, etc. (a large diamond of course, conspicuously selected in macabre scenery with jewelry store ghouls: ...she changes her flighty little mind in the nick of time, and before a well timed downpour that punctuates her contempt for the wedding and the wedding party. Reese Witherspoon needs these infant terrible outlets, her puckish and perky hypercriticality is what this fascist cesspool culture thrives on...or so it would be pawned off on us. ...

Summary: Fun for the whole family.
Review: This movie is one of the best movies I have seen all year. Sweet Home Alabama comes in second, after The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers. Sweet Home Alabama is fun for the whole family. I must commend Reese Witherspoon on her wonderfull performance.

Summary: Disappointing use of a good concept
Review: Frankly, the expectations were high when the trailers of this movie was shown in the theatres - home sweet home and sweet romance comedy. However, the movie itself is far too unpromising in both the screenplay and the actors performance. Witherspoon is the leading role in the movie playing a girl who gained a career success in NY but need to go back to Alabama to settled a marriage that she deemed should not have happened so that she could get hold of her new love and fairy tale marriage. The first half of the movie went well until the moment she arrived Alabama. From that part onward, the plot just like fell apart. The director introduced quite a number of new characters as Witherspoon's old acquaintances and friends back home, but most of them were lack of depth in character. The part of Witherspoon trying to take revenge on her ex in refusing to sign the papers by taking advantage of the joint bank account is funny, but other than that the description between their relationship is shallow and inconvincing. The new guy who is going to marry Witherspoon is good and well written - the sort of guy that all women would like to marry for life. The ending of the movie is pretty rushed and hasty, which put a pretty bad end to the whole story.

Summary: Come on, Reese
Review: After Legally Blonde, I figured Reese Witherspoon could grab onto any old hunk of nonsense, hoist it up on those shapely shoulders and carry it across the finish line all by her lonesome. Well, here's the movie that proves it ain't necessarily so.

I'm sure the public will generally enjoy (or at least not be offended by) this trifle, but if like me, you enjoyed seeing Reese's talent blossom in harder edged fare like Freeway, Pleasantville and Election, you'll hope one of these romantic comedy bon-bons tanks at the box office so she can get back to making real movies.

Summary: Why this is a bad movie.
Review: I read a review that said that this movie was a nice escape from films featuring bullets, shots, kicks, etc. In my opinion, this kind of generalization should be better thought before being written. There are plenty of examples of good and bad action movies, as there are plenty of examples of good and bad water-and-sugar movies. "Sweet home Alabama" is a bad water-and-sugar movie. ... I find it difficult to believe anyone would be interested in her, most of all two men at the same time.

Then, the story: successful stylist (the same Reese) falls in love with the son of New York mayor, but cannot marry him unless she goes back to her poor hometown in Alabama, where she hasn't been for seven years, and manages to get a divorce from her childhood sweetheart. But when she gets there, she remembers what her life used to be, and what her marriage uset to be. And, suddenly, she starts to like it! If so, why did she run away on everybody and stayed away for seven years??!! ...And also, there are plenty of embarassing scenes, like the final one with the wedding. And the characters' reactions and interactions are all wrong. Also: You know when a comedy is bad when the only effective jokes are on stereotyped characters; in this case, they were on the gay character. To sum up, booooring.

And one final comment. It seemed pretty obvious to me that in this movie yankees as well as southerners were, for different reasons, treated with explicit contempt.

The two stars were given for the performance of Candice Bergen (excellent, sarcastic) and Josh Lucas (simple and powerful) and for the good song that shared the title with this terrible movie.

Grade 3.5/10

Summary: Get your...down here and give me a divorce...............
Review: Sweet Home Alabama should be right up there with movies like My Best Friends Wedding and The Wedding Planner. Reese Witherspoon's acting in this movie was a lot more serious, not like her usual bubbly blonde roles like in Legally Blonde. Reese plays Melanie Carmichael a famous New York fashion designer who is engaged to Patrick Dempsy who plays the part of the wealthy son of New York mayor played by Candice Bergen. Everything in Melanie's life seems perfect, that is until she decides to go back to her hometown Alabama and tell her family and friends she is going to get married. When she returns home the first item on her list: ask her husband played by Josh Lucas for a divorce. Hilarity and mishap ensue. As time progresses Melanie realizes just how important her family is to her and how it was wrong of her to shut them out. She also comes to realize that her love for husband is even stronger and that he is the one she should be with. This movie proves to be a great romantic comedy and is a movie for both girls and GUYS. It is not a chick flick ok? Also look for appearances by Ethan Embry as Melanie's cousin Bobby Rae and Melanie Lynskey as Melanie's friend. The acting is great, the script is original, and Reese who was not only made for this part proves that she can be a serious actress and is not one of the stereotypical blondes of Hollywood.

Summary: A southern fantasy, a southern farce
Review: Extremely funny, saw it with my youngest daughter who also thought it was funny to make me sit through American Pie II (the guy who playted the Jewish father was fantastic). Aside from the laughs, though, the political overtones were appalling. Yankees consist of witch-like feminist Democrats who manipulate weak men. Southern men are sympathetic, caring, harmless, Bubba-Republicans who can win their women back from the evil Yankess by being smart and working hard, creating products that will even sell in NY (well, W sold in NY, so why not). Blacks are----well----maids. Otherwise, there are apparenly no Blacks in Alabama. Candice Bergen, it was good for laughs but where are your political principles in this age of world domination by right wing religious fanatacism and neo-classical economic ideology? You gone over to the other side too, like most of the other Democrats?

Summary: A Must See Movie
Review: This is a must see movie!!! They could not have picked anyone better than Reese to play the part of a Southern Gal!!! Honestly I am from Texas and down here it is just like Alabama and I really enjoyed it. If it wasn't for the twist at the end of the movie it would not have been as good as it turned out to be. So I suggest if you have not seen it then hurry up because it is about to leave the theatures!!!

Summary: Give the actors some slack this is a gr8 movie!!!
Review: Well just to start out i loved this movie, it was gr8. I not see why people call it dumb. There are so many people that, seriouly, must hate people from the south, because all that ive read is people from the south are such sterotypes, im sure the people from the south hate the way we live, and hate the people from the north as much as people here seem to hate them. Give the the actors some slack, i mean really. What if any of you (that hate this movie) made one, and you really like it, i bet it wouldnt even make it into the 50 most wanted to see movies. Give the characters some slack and think of what it would feel like to know that people think your movie [stinks] the big one. Well back to the movie, it was so awesome, reese is so cute, and a serious actor who is just fun lovin' and such a sweetie. And there are some movies that the main character choose the person she was going too in the beginning. And i sure that all of you who have seen it were wanting her to choose her 1st husband, and if you hated it so bad then why didnt you just get off your fat [heiny] and leave if it was so horrible, or are you just to lazy? Anyways go ahead and live alittle spend 4.50 on a movie that you will love, and WON'T regret seeing.
