Rating: Summary: Great Date Movie! Review: This is a great movie to watch with a date. This is the most romantic movie that came out in 2002. I took a date to it and she absolutely loved it. I didn't mind it much either. There were some funny parts. Comedy movies are great in every collection. They are movies that you can watch again and again. If you watch a lot of movies with your boyfriend or girlfriend this is a movie for you. I really liked the ending; I will not spoil anything for you though. I give this truly romantic comedy four out of five stars. A great date movie!
Rating: Summary: what an awesome movie! Review: Being a Southern Belle, i LOVED this movie! i'm not sure if people not from down here would really understand all the parts of the movie... because, like Melanie says, you really do need a passport to come down here. Because the South is so different from the North, it helped the movie to be more realistic. Melanie really was torn between two ENTIRELY different worlds. i was able to rate this movie 5 stars because she definitely picked the better world! don't rent this- buy it!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Reese Witherspoon Shines!!! Review: I don't know why I had such high hopes for this film--perhaps because it came so soon after the wonderfully witty Legally Blonde. Reese Witherspoon lights up the screen once again in this otherwise bland tale of a New York City fashion designer who is faced with her past as she sifts her way through the present. Patrick Dempsey is in top form here as her rich fiancee, Candice Bergen is once again wickedly delightful as his overbearing mother, Ethan Embry is great as Melanie's childhood friend, and Josh Lucas is absolutely charming (and sexy) as her husband, who refuses to give Melanie a divorce. With such a great cast and such wonderful performances, it's hard to see how the film went wrong. Perhaps because it was overlong and boring, and the script lacked any sort of charm. Aside from the fact that it was (knowingly) predictable, I didn't find myself caring for the situation Melanie was in, or what its outcome was going to be. (as if it wasn't obvious). The film seemed to struggle with where to go once Melanie enters Alabama, something that was stretched out farther than it should have. Of course, the last 15 minutes or so brought back the magic of the first 15, ending on a sweet note. Perhaps if the film had been 15 minutes shorter, the lack of a good 2nd act wouldn't have been quite as obvious. The first-rate cast does save the film, bringing in the charm missing from the script. This definitely isn't the worst romantic comedy of the year, and unfortunately, it is far from the best...
Rating: Summary: Great Feel Good/Date Movie. Review: If your are looking for a couple of hours where you can sit down with your significant other and come away feeling good then this is the movie for you. Is it a romantic formulary movie with no pretence of the real world, yes. Does it have an ending that is broadcast from the begining, absolutely. Reese Witherspoons caracter, Melanie, must go back to her home town to obtain a divorce from her husband she left several years ago because she is engaged to the son of the Mayor of New York, played by perfectly by Candice Bergin. Of course he is relunctant to give in to her demands because of their past and the way she left she left him. The movie comes into its own when the focus is on the town and its collections of charecters, all of whom are associated with Melanie's past. The weakest part of the movie is the fact the stormy relationship Melanie has with her parents is never satifactorly explained. All of the actors play their roles well and it looks as if they enjoyed making this movie. Will "Sweet Home Alabama" take home an oscar, no way. But then again when I watch a movie like this I am looking to be entertained, have a few laughs, and walk away feeling good and on those points this movie hits the mark.
Rating: Summary: !!GREAT MOVIE, A MUST SEE!! Review: This is the best movie I saw all year!! Reese is great in it, I adore her. I am so happy with the ending...The story is soo sweet and yet not sappy or corny, the perfect love story. The comedic parts are hilarious, it's very easy to relate to the movie in every aspect (except not all of us have even been to Tiffany's, let alone told to pic whatever we wanted.) The soundtrack is also the coolest, I am pround to say that as of Feb. 4th I will own them both.

Rating: Summary: true blue movie americana fun Review: Sitting back and enjoying this film is like drinking a beer on the beach: relaxing, satisfying, and constantly able to put a big goofy grin on your face. Reese is great, the only-in-the-movies southern locales are excellent and the supporting cast makes it stand out above the usual romantic comedy. Good times.
Rating: Summary: I Loved It Review: Being from Alabama, I was a little offended about how they portrayed us as hill billy rednecks, but I have to say...most parts of Alabama are like that, and even though I might not want to live up to these "stereotypes", it was a pretty funny movie. There were a few things that people who weren't from the south wouldn't catch, like how one blood hound's name was Bear and the other was Bryant. I thought that was classical!! Overall, I thought the movie was funny and romantic, but I think I would have liked it better if the movie was actually filmed in Alabama! ;-)
Rating: Summary: Preaching to the Choir Review: Sweet Home Alabama is as formulaic as a romantic comedy can be, from the fish out of water element to the crisis at the altar. Reese Witherspoon delivers a great performance as... Reese Witherspoon, newly crowned "it" girl of the 2000s. While she doesn't have the natural homogenous quality that makes Julia Roberts so universally appealing to every other human being, she does have a sass and spunk that help her flesh out an already decently conceived character. The same could be said for Ethan Embry in turning his supporting role as a closeted best friend into something nuanced and nearly dignified, but the script won't completely do away with its cliches, preventing any character from truly offering anything new that we haven't seen already. Candice Bergen is especially wasted as a one-note evil mother-in-law in training, and Fred Ward's embodiment of the "South Will Rise Again" mentality sours the whole film. In a time where the differences between the USA and other nations is becoming a crucial focus point worldwide, it's ironic that we have a romantic comedy that celebrates isolationism within our very borders. However, if one can get beyond the lousy politics and predictable plotline, the romance at the center of the story is almost a saving grace... clumsy, clunky and overdone, but it nearly makes the film worth watching.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Movie! Review: This movie was the greatest!! In this movie, Reese Witherspoon plays a charachter that is totally different than "Elle Woods", the charachter she played in the movie, "Legally Blond". This movie is a tear-jerker. Definatly a chick-flick but is a must see!!
