Summary: Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained
Review: There's nothing particularly wrong with this move, there's just nothing particularly right with it either. It's totally predictable, everyone walks through their parts and you never really beleive any of it. There's no indication at the beginning of the movie that Melanie doesn't really love her New York boyfriend, and he's an incredibly nice guy besides. In fact, if you watch the deleted scenes on the DVD, he's an even better person than you already thought he was. There's nothing to indicate she's still in any way carrying a torch for her old flame, or even why. When she makes the choice they've been telegraphing for the whole picture, there's no particular reason why she does.

There's nothing dramatically wrong with this move, you won't have wasted your time by watching it, but you won't have gained anything either. It's all formula, with no deep thought in concept or execution. If you want an example of lack of any touch with reality, check out the alternate ("the original") ending on the DVD. The director says it wasn't until they were told so by the test audiences that they realized how wrong that ending was. They filmed it and didn't know?

Summary: Heart Warming
Review: I thought the first person i read that reviewed this film must lead a dull life. Even though it was predictable, it brought me laughter, while pulling at heart strings. I actually even though it was predictable thought that it had twists that could have made it go either way. I loved the movie. One of the best romantic comedies i have seen in a long time.

Summary: It's a chick flick!
Review: There's no point complaining about how predictable this movie is, or how it follows a formula. I don't watch these movies to suddenly have an epiphany. It's good fluffy fun for a lazy Sunday afternoon or a way to unwind after a stressful day at work.

Not the best romantic comedy ever, but the performances by the actors keep this movie going. Great acting by Reese Withspoon (Melanie) and Josh Lucas (Jake). Mary Kay Place and Fred Ward put in great performances as Pearl and Earl, Melanie's backwards parents. The storyline is decent and the ending makes up for everything. There are definitely stereotypes in the movie, but they're there to emphasize the contrasting attitudes of "hoity-toity" New Yorkers and Southerners.

It's a rent before you buy movie unless you're a Reese Witherspoon fan or a fan of all romantic comedies.

Summary: Reese at her charming best
Review: I think people have to enter this movie with the mindset that it's not supposed to be 'The English Patient' or 'A Beautiful Mind'. It's a highly predictable romantic comedy of fluffy proportions. It was definately made for people who wanted to sit back, relax and have an enjoyable time, of which I did.

Any opportunity to see Reese for 2 hours is not a bad way to spend your time. At first viewing, I liked it but it was by no means a great movie. After purchasing the DVD and watching it again several times, I've come to like it more and more. Reese just does an amazing job of keeping the viewers attention and actually making them care about what happens to her in the movie. I dare say a lesser actresses would have made this movie unbearable. So having said that, the 4 stars are mainly due to Reese herself.

Thinking about it more, an actress like say Jennifer Love Hewitt or Rachel Leigh Cook or pretty much any young actress out there would have made this movie bomb at the box office. The character of Melanie is a demanding one. First off, she's not a very likeable person, but Reese manages to charm you anyway. Second, she's in pretty much every scene of the movie, so she's got to keep the viewers attention. Thirdly, the movie is so predictable that you know who she's going to end up with by watching the trailer, I mean damn, the title gives away the ending. So she's got to turn a predictable role into something fresh and exciting. This role could certainly have been played by any actress, but none would have done it quite as well as Reese did. She managed to do all three and much more. This movie made $125 million at the box office for goodness sakes, that's a lot of money for a fluffy movie. It was also the biggest opening for Semptember ever and the biggest opening for a Romantic Comedy in movie history. Yes that's right, it beat out every romantic comedy that Julia Roberts ever made. Not bad huh? Note to Hollywood producers, if you want to make a huge profit on your movie, hire Reese Witherspoon. Now just for a second, picture another young actress in the role of Melanie and can you see it making that much money, I don't think so. That goes for 'Legally Blonde' as well. I mean can you see anyone else playiing the role of Elle Woods with as much energy and comic timing as Reese. I'll also add 'Election' into the "there's no way anyone else could have done that role" pile. Reese IS Tracy Flick, she embodied her (that sounds kinda [bad], but she did damn it).

So having rambled on, my conclusion of this movie is, if you like Reese Witherspoon and you like fluffy movies, this is the movie for you. It doesn't take a lot of brain power to watch, it's just plain fun. And who doesn't want to have fun when they watch a movie.

Summary: A Suprise To Say The Least
Review: When I first saw the previews for this movie, it appeared to me as a film that would be predictable and boring. To my surprise, I was wrong! This movie exceeded my expectations and set a very romantic tone for the theme of lost loves. The story-line is mellow, yet very sweet, and Reese Witherspoon portrays her character flawlessly. This movie does shift back-and-forth more than desired, but is mostly saved by the positivity of the movie flow. Hats off to this film!

Summary: Sweet Home Alabama is not that Sweet
Review: I watched this movie with my husband after we had heard all the rave reviews about this movie and expected something funny, comical and just clever. Sadly disappointed, because you have to watch almost the entire movie to find out what drove Melanie and her husband to be apart for 7 years!!! It had some humorous scenes, but nothing outstanding. Candice Bergen plays a typical "Murphy Brown" role but as a mayor, which really does her no justice. Its just "Murphy Brown" who is a mayor, has a young eligible and handsome son and is suspicious of who he is marrying. I can safely say, I will not watch this movie again.

Summary: Enjoyed It!!
Review: Although I enjoyed this movie and all, and I am not an native Alabamian, I do live here, and I tend to feel that the movie kept on making the folk of this state look like do nothing, beer guzzling folk who don't want nothing in life but to have babies and remember the Civil War. It is not ALL like that down here. Yeah, we have our eccentric people, folk that don't want much, etc, but for the most part, we are no different from the rest of the country. With that said, I enjoyed the movie a lot. I admired the guy for finding his niche with blown glass and creating an industry out of it. Reese's character was too self absorbed initially, but had to connect with who and what she was. Only then, did she move on to better. I really enjoyed the movie, except for the above exception.

Summary: Home is where the heart is
Review: Although not a Reese Witherspoon fan, I adore "Legally Blonde". This film falls flat on it's pretentious head. With predictable scenes and even more predictable costume design and cinematography, this film should have been scrapped since it's written inception. This film is an abomination to the movie goer.
