Summary: Strong Family, Interesting Love Story
Review: The first time I watched Moonstruck many years ago, I wasn't all that enthralled with it. Having watched it, and purchased it, recently, I have fallen in love with it!The tight bond between the members of the family is something that is lacking in today's society, and so many times in today's movies. It was nice to see that even though there could be strife and betrayal within a family, the members could all come back together and know that they loved each other. The cast of this movie is so incredible that it would be impossible for me to give praise to just one or two. However, I do have to say that the relationship and dialogue between Cher and Nicolas Cage is so intense and passionate that you can't help but feel the emotions they're feeling. If you want to watch a good movie about everyday people living life, falling in love, and dealing with everyday troubles, buy this movie! You won't be disappointed!

Summary: enchanting romance with average dvd extras
Review: This is a superb romantic comedy, the tale of Loretta (Cher), a New York Italian with an extended, eccentric family. She has been "unlucky in love" (as her family often reminds her!), and accepts an offer of marriage from a friend, deciding romantic love will not come her way again. Enter the unexpected in the guise of her fiancee's brother (Nicolas Cage), a man who excites passion she thought she would never feel again. What will she do? What will they do? And what will her family say? This is a consciously contemporary Cinderella story, revolving around Loretta's transformation after she finds true love, and it works because the script is authentic and the cast is absolute perfection (Cher and Cage are great together, and Olympia Dukakissteals every scene she's in). To me, this movie was similar to 'Room With a View' -- I saw it when it first came out, hearing it was funny but not really expecting much, and I was absolutely charmed, finding a film I would happily watch many times. DVD extras are nice but don't knock your socks off: a fun booklet packed with behind-the-scenes facts, a trailer, and a commentary track featuring actor Cher, director Jewison and writer Shanley. The film can be heard in English or French; subtitles are avialable in English, French or Spanish. My advice: If you adore this film and want to watch it right away, you should get this; otherwise, wait for a special edition dvd so you'll find better extra features.

Review: This is one of my 3 favorite movies. I have the laserdisc, but I will not upgrade to DVD unless it's widescreen. Every other good movie from 1987 (a bumper crop year) is available in this format. Please, please, please, do this little thing!

Review: This is perhaps the most romantic movie I have ever seen. But don't let the word romantic turn you away-this movie is hilarious. There is something in this movie for everyone. Cher and Olympia are great and both deserved the Oscar. It's not full of fluff or trash-it's the perfect date movie.

Review: I saw Moonstruck the first time at the cinema in 1988 and I loved it immediately;it'a a great picture that brings you to figure out how much we miss today, flicks like this one. The story is about an italian-american family who is involved in the wedding of Loretta,a forty age woman played by a stunning Cher. The event is a chance for every member of the family to come to terms with their own lives.The script is delicious and the performances of all the actors is great,especially Vincent Gardenia in a grotesque character of the unfaithful Loretta's father and Olimpia Dukakis in the shoes of the strong and understanding Loretta's mother.Watch it,you won't waste your time!3 Academy Awards winner:Best Actress (Cher),Supporting Actress ( Olympia Dukakis) and Original script.

Summary: Great film..wimpy DVD...
Review: It's hard not to love this film. The energy level is high, the acting is impeccable (Cher really found her niche), the direction tight and the screenplay clever and original. (It's hard to think of Sally Field in Cher's role, as originally planned.) My only complaint is that, at this moment, I'm watching this film on Turner Classic Movies in a 1.85:1 LBX, though the only available DVD version is full screen. Does anyone out there wonder why we can't have a LBX DVD version? No doubt, the film is a riot, and its references to opera are so approprate, so much so that the great Russian basso Fyodor Chaliapin came out of retirement to play the grandfather (walking the dogs). Olympia Dukakis, John Mahoney, Vincent Gardenia, Nicholas Cage and Danny Aiello create the perfect cast, centered around a no-holds-barred performance from Cher that's as perfect as they come. Ah, the power of the moon...and all that glorious music! What a treat!

Summary: Outstanding movie, lackluster dvd edition
Review: Moonstruck is a movie that easily deserves five stars. However, this DVD edition of Moonstruck has been edited to a full-screen format from the original widescreen. As far as I'm concerned, when publishers edit a film in that manner, they in effect are butchering the film-makers' original vision. One grossly butchered scene involves Cher and Aielo (sp?) together in the front seat of a car: the viewer is allowed to see only one actor at any one time, because the full-screen format will only fit one actor onscreen at once. This causes the audience to miss exactly one-half of each actor's wonderful performance. What a shame.
To my knowledge there is no widescreen version of this outstanding movie available on DVD. That's just too bad.

Summary: Acting, Screenplay, and Setting Make Moonstruck a Classic
Review: "Moonstruck" is one of the best movies of the past 20 years. The plot is corny, but superb writing makes it seem natural and enjoyable. Excellent acting by Nicholas Cage, Olympia Dukakis, Vincent Gardenia, and Cher (believe it or not). Filmed in some very picturesque NYC locations. It all adds up to a movie you can enjoy more than once.

Review: These two actors worked very well together in this movie, with Nicholas Cage playing yet another character which you either love or hate. I'm not sure where I was, but I thought he was a pretty pathetic one. Cher shines here. Enjoyable.

Summary: Great movie; bad DVD
Review: I loved this movie and was so excited to see it out on DVD. But, folks, I must say that this is an example of how not to put a movie on DVD. First of all, it is fullscreen and that is awful (in my opinion). The video quality stinks with a lot of pixelation throughout. It looks like they took a VHS tape, made a DVD on a home computer, and sent it off to be duplicated and distributed. I *WISH* I could recommend this DVD as an excellent, must-have for your collection, but I can't, even though I love-love-love the movie. Maybe they'll do a new release later that is of better quality with widescreen. Wait for another release or buy a used copy for now.
