Summary: A decent movie - but Dogma is better!
Review: Mallrats introduces us to Ben Affleck... and of course Jason Lee in his first of many roles in the View Askewniverse. It also introduced ME to the term "dirt mall" which i now gleefully designate the Nanuet Mall in Nanuet, NY as (an abandoned shell of its former self!). Not a bad movie, the game show part of it is pretty dumb. Still, "fly fatass, fly!" is not something i'll ever forget!

Summary: SNOOCH TO THE NOOCH!
Review: dude, this movie is HILARIOUS! it is the best of the kevin smith movies in my humble opinion. it's got a great soundtrack, a great performance by jason lee, and, of course, JAY AND SILENT BOB!

Summary: Good movie. Not my favorite of all Kevin Smiths. But Good.
Review: It's a good movie. Jason Lee is very good in the movie. As he was in Chasing Amy. It's a bit corny but still has its moments which makes it good. Jay and Silent Bob are great in the movie. Some of their best work is in this movie. It still has that comedy that only some people are going to get, which is why Kevin Smiths movies are so good. Don't listen to the critics. Critics,Shmitics. Check the movie out!

Summary: Unintelligent and unfunny
Review: Pity because Kevin Smith is an exceptional writer. Here I guess he mistakenly tried his hand at being a better director, and the result is a mess of a picture -- anything remotely original or offbeat is buried under another ho-hum teen explotation flick. Even the sight gags are tired and unoriginal.

I had hoped that Smith would have used Mallrats to create a subversive film (like he did in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back) about suburbia. Instead it was like he was expelling some latent adolescent nonsense that had been swirling inside him for years. Sorry, but I'm not interested Kevin Smith's juvinile private parts.

The slackers? Yawn. The over-smart Catholic School vixen? zzzzz. The happily-ever-after ending? Please.

Fortunately, he moved on to more mature ideas -- love in the absolutely brilliant "Chasing Amy", and the relationship of God and man in "Dogma". Even in "Clerks" he challenged us with ideas about finding purpose in the face of circumstances beyond our control.

I don't know what inspired him to make "Mallrats". Too many of those [bad] Orange Julius drinks maybe.

Summary: Very funny movie
Review: Mallrats is an extremely funny movie. I have watched this movie over and over countless times with my friends and we always laugh at it. This movie is going to be a classic college movie. I say college movie because a lot of younger people would not get a lot of the humor and little jokes. This movie is definitely one that i would buy if i didn't already have it.

Summary: Hilarious and Entertaining?
Review: This movie is a classic! It's funny and i never really like that many movies that take place at one location throughout the whole film but for mall films this one is the best and I mean the BEST! It is like a living breathing comic strip and a true collector's item for their DVD library when they are looking to soop up their comedy section. This is one you should have!

Summary: You're Going to Listen to Something I said!?!?!?!
Review: While certainly not a critics favorite, this is a fan favorite. This is one of my top ten movies of all time. Hilarious from beginning to end, this is a mindless comedy that finds its greatness in the fact that it is mindless. Saying its mindless doesn't mean its totally stupid or without merit. In fact, its quite smart. Of course I am a little biased, I love Jason Lee so much I actually like Drawing Flies. Sad thing is, I'm not kidding. This movie has more of me in it than any other movie I've ever seen. Case in Point: "You're actually going to listen to something I said...Haven't I made it abundantly clear during the tenure of our friendship that I don't know ...I mean half the time I'm talking out of my...or sticking my hand in it". Just ask my friends, see if that isn't me to a tee. A great cast (most of whom you can see in Drawing Flies! hehe) a plausible (stop laughing) storyline, Jay and Silent Bob, and of course Jason Lee. Seems like enough for me. How about You?

Summary: Snoochie boochies!
Review: this is a truly great movie. Every second will keep you rolling on the ground with laughter. I've seen all of Kevin Smith's movies and this one intrigues me the most. Perfect for anyone over the age of 14 (due to explicit content). Buy this one and you won't be dissappointed.

Summary: Three Cups of Funny And A Gallon of BRILLIANT.
Review: Lemme tell yooz something, kiddies. Mallrats is the funniest movie ever. And the most sophisticated. I, a sophisticated connoisseur in the world of comedy movies and dark, creepy, independent films, have seen a lot of motion pictures in my life, but none have reflected my life and psyche as much as Kevin Smith's 'Mallrats' did for me.
The movie itself is brilliant to every extent of the word. For one, it has an all star cast. A then unknown Jason Lee, Jason London...'s brother, Michael Rooker...the list goes on and on. Second of all, one can totally relate to the characters. As if Mr. Smith didn't portray me well enough as 'Randal', the slacker video clerk in his last film, 'Clerks', he has now thrown in Jason Lee's wonderful portrayal of a slacker, the unforgettable Brodie Bruce. Third of all, it's incredibly original. Forget all of the movies you see in theaters now taking place in malls with topless psychics, mindless banter, teenage shenanigans, and physical harm towards the Easter Bunny, for they're all ripping off 'Mallrats', the third greatest film of all time.
The sheer incredibleness of this film is enough to make any sane man fashion a codpiece out of lunch meat and run into the woods, foaming at the mouth and babbling psycho-gibber. Beneath all the wackiness and sophomoric comedy lies a deep, DEEP, love story, sure to make you cry almost as much as watching 'The Adventures of Milo And Otis'. The fact that the plot revolves around two recently dumped teenagers who head to the mall for solice, but soon discover that one's girlfriend hath been taken into the arms of his enemy, and that one's father forbids any relationship between the two to take place shows traces of a true Shakespearian tragedy. The director must have been very well taught in the field of English literature.
The DVD is also brilliant. Who knew that a little piece of plastic could do so much? As if over an hour of deleted scenes weren't enough, we're treated to a rousing video commentary ...a theatrical trailer, a sountrack trailer, a music video, a little featurette about the film, production notes, production photos, cast and crew biographies, a hidden easter egg, and the chance to hear the film in French. All in all, a great piece of plastic.
Overall, if you're in for a jolly good time, with plenty of guffaws and scollywaggles, I highly suggest you pick up this piece of film history. Once you have seen it, your entire perception of life will change...and stuff. You'll weep! You'll cry! You'll laugh! You'll chuckle! You'll marvel at the sheer brilliance of 'Mallrats'.

But seriously kids, this is a very funny movie ...And the DVD is pretty good, too. Give this movie a shot, and, odds are, you'll like it.

Luv,
Muttz!
