Summary: NOT SO GREAT AS PEOPLE KEEP SAYING
Review: Altough Cusack is clearly in one of his great performances ever, this movie has so many high-and-lows that looses its momentum along the middle. It's a good history, well told and directed, but there are many weak spots: Robbins appearance adds nothing; JAck Black's performance is awful; the plot sometimes is very, very slow to my taste; the musical references quoted by the characters are too few - they could have been more explored. ANyway, it's above average, considering the unbeliavable amount of garbage the movie productors give us nowadays.

Summary: Nice entertainment - improves with usage
Review: The movie - It starts a bit slowly, but keeps getting better until the end. Has some high points on art direction - overture and final credits. Two anthological passages - dreaming of his ex making love to the new guy and options to what to do when he enters your vinil store. Nice love story, even if you better be in the mood to appreciate it. The DVD - good image, good sound. Widescreen. Has many point of views by John Cussack and the director. These extras have a minor flaw. Since they are short, they could have an option to be played all at once. Anyway, valuable. A nice piece of entertainment that sometimes you'll take a look at again. I believe it improves with usage.

Summary: Ever been dumped and didn't know why?
Review: Then this movie is for you. Hi Fidelity is a very funny, charming little movie about a 30-something record store owner named Rob Gordon who has recently been left by his girlfriend. The pain of the breakup sends Rob on a quest to confront the women in his life who have left him and try to find out what it is about him that causes women to leave. In the process, we are treated to a long series of pieces of exposition by Rob to us (the audience) about his life and relationships interspersed with encounters between Rob and the people that he interacts with on a daily basis. By far the best scenes in the film take place in the record store with Rob and his two employees Dick (Todd Louiso) and Barry (played hilariously by Jack Black). This movie doesn't have any action or explosions or sex or violence. What it has is a series of very human characters played very well by every actor. This is a movie that will make you laugh, but that will also make you think about your own past, and perhaps will help you learn why certain things happened to you that you were never prepared to understand before. Highly recommended to all, but a must see for Cusack Fans.

Summary: Another whiney Cusack movie
Review: What to say about this film? Well, Cusack has definitely done better. The most interesting characters in the movie are Barry and Dick (Jack Black and Tom Louiso). It would be a much better movie if they were incorporated more into the story rather than appearing here and there when the story gets a bit slow. Unfortunately, the little they do appear doesn't make the film any better.If you want to see a movie about a guy who runs a record store and don't want to deal with depression, check out Empire Records.

Summary: Lloyd Dobler All Grown Up
Review: I just love John Cusack. This movie is every guy I know and the one I ended up marrying. I know these people! We have these convoluted music crtiques/arguments over beers all the time. Especially with my old college buddies. If you loved "Say Anything" then this is the movie for you. It almost as if we picked up Lloyd 10 years later and he's still trying to figure out girls and the meaning of life. Strong casting and a smart screenplay make this a great date movie for music lovers. No need to make compromises on action vs drama. This movie is fun for both of you. Get some popcorn, curl up on the couch and enjoy.

Summary: An OK Date Film But Otherwise Weak
Review: This is supposed to be an adult comedy; well perhaps to the extent it has no jokes about body functions. There is some good acting all around but not much of a story. Cusack has a fantasy job; no boss, no apparent concern about cash flow or creditors. And a fantasy girlfriend; attractive, slim, blond, high paying job, professional degree, wealthy parents, expensive car. Hey, isn't that supposed to be the guy? The conflict stems from the fact that Cusack hasn't grown up yet. He doesn't grow up in the film either. He spends so much time talking to the camera it ends up as a little bit of a movie superimposed over Cusack's monologue. I welcomed the closing credits just to hear him shut up. To add to the annoyance he chain smokes through the whole thing. To be fair it's probably a good date movie but nothing more. And if the date goes really well neither of you will care much if you miss most of this movie. A lot of people seem to like it though. I'm probably too long out of college to relate. For a much better romantic comedy with Cusack see Grosse Point Blank.

Review: And I really like John Cusack. Movie is definitely worth watching, but I had very high hopes and they were not quite met. Watch the movie, enjoy the book and check out Grosse Pointe Blank! Great soundtrack on that movie as well

Summary: Greatest ending in movie history
Review: I loved this movie. It's not perfect; I agree that sometimes the top-five bit gets a little tiresome, but the ending was for me so moving and exhilirating - the song he chooses to conclude the story is so perfect on so many levels it vaults the entire film into my top 10 all-time favorites (along with "The Player", "Godfather's I and II", "Falcon and the Snowman", "The Graduate", "Dr. Strangelove", and a few others I'll have to get back to you on). It's also a subtly inspiring tale of how a consumer can become a producer. How years of connoisseurship can have commercial value.

Summary: top 5 reasons why this movie rocks
Review: 1. It is about love, sex and relationship. All from the Bos's viewpoint, a guy that one can completely indentify with. 2. It is about music. One of Bob's belief was "it doesn't matter what you are like, but what you like." And Bob likes the right stuff, therefore the soundtrack is great. 3. The staff. All of them are great actors, especially Bob's employees, their discussions about music with Bob are the most funny as well as educational. 4. The lists. "Some people have opinions, other have lists." Bob is making lists all the time: top 5 heartbreaks, top five songs to dance, top five jobs, top five records. I always liked lists. 5. And finally, this movie is about growing up. It shows the evolution from a young man to a mature man. Well, it may be not as bad as it seems.
