Summary: Notting Hill
Review: Forget Gere, Tie Up With Hugh Grant Again.

I really enjoyed the chemistry between Julia Roberts and Gere in Pretty Woman but it does not come close to the chemistry between Roberts and Grant. This is a great movie. I am embarrassed to tell you how many times I have seen it. I would like to see Roberts and Grant together again. I bought the DVD Special Edition just so I could watch it whenever I need to.

Summary: I was entertained all the way !
Review: If you saw 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' then you will surely love this. I'm not a great Hugh Grant fan but he just seems to fit the part in all the movies I've seen him in. I noticed a similarity to 'Pretty Woman' in a reverse role fashion for Julia Roberts in this movie. I must say I laughed through most of the movie and I think the script was perfect. I cracked up laughing at Hugh Grant's room mate with the T-shirt episode near the start of the movie as well as the scene where Hugh's sister meets Julia Roberts character face to face. I did not get to watch the movie through with the feature commentary. I guess I will have to rent it again.

Summary: A DEFINITE BUY!
Review: I saw Notting Hill and instantly fell in love with it. I would recommend this film to anyone who wants a good laugh but also loves a sweet love story! The setting of the movie provides an interesting back drop to a timeless story of mismatched lovers.

Summary: I Didn't Want To See It
Review: I thought it would be your run-of-the-mill romantic comedy. I was blown away. It was funny, fresh and sweet. It is true what they say about Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. They have fabulous chemistry. I'm not sure how anyone can say the acting was "sub-par"; the acting was fine. There were some stereotypical characters, sure, but what impressed me the most was that the main characters had flaws. They were not just cookie cutter hero/heroine. And they still could not stay away from each other. I had tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat through some of it and I was rooting for them to be together...and I wasn't always sure they WOULD be together (except that I've read so much about it.) Some of the jokes were a little stale, but most were not and they worked well. It's definitely not a thought-provoking, deep film. It's a film you enjoy with a bowl of popcorn and your mind wide-open. Don't try to analyze it too much!

Review: This movie was very drawn out and predictable.I thought it was very bland

Summary: Pure eclat!
Review: I would agree with Mark Engehart's introductory review "they don't really make many romantic comedies like Notting Hill anymore". The script of course is one of the chief reasons, written by Richard Curtis the same fellow who wrote Four Weddings and a Funeral. Also, the producers and director should be applauded for getting the casting right, even to the walk on parts (apparently they were very particular about the extras). Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant were their first choices, and we are lucky they accepted the parts! Julia (who has 7 films that have each grossed over $100m) is an instantly recognizable celebrity (helpful, since she plays Anna Scott a Hollywood superstar). The chemistry between her and Hugh Scott is palpable and their screen romance almost real. When William Thacker (Grant) figures he's had enough, and touchingly rejects her with "I live in Notting Hill and you live in Beverly Hills", she responds with something along the lines of "I'm just a girl in love with a boy". It could have been so corny, but turns out a very moving scene. It's the supporting cast who makes this film so funny. Spike (Rhys Ifans) was originally written to be a Scotsman, who shares a flat with Thacker on Portobello Rd, Notting Hill. The director (Roger Michell) remembered Ifans from some rep company he worked with once, and persuaded his producer colleagues to write him into the part. A master stroke, as Ifans is fantastically funny as the half wit, eccentric, Welshman. Another surprise is the unaccredited role of Alec Baldwin as Anna's boyfriend from the States - a flash of pure inspiration! The first time I saw this film I thought the romance was somewhat contrived (like Leonard Maltin says in his review), but on watching it the second time with a group of friends, I realized it wasn't contrived at all, but subtle. This film can take any amount of viewing without getting stale. The DVD has a lot of bonus material, which is a bonus! Definitely worth buying.

Summary: Absolutely Wonderful Movie!
Review: If this movie does not move you emotionally, you simply are not alive! Look, people say that this is a "girl movie". Well, I'm here to tell you otherwise. I am 26 years old, 6'4" tall, weigh 280 pounds. I am the kind of man who would look you in the eye and never back up. But this movie had me crying like a little whipped pup.

Is this movie based in reality? No, it is not but I wouldn't have it any other way. This movie presses all the emotional buttons. It makes you laugh and it makes you cry. Look, do yourself a favour and rent it! Better yet, BUY IT!

Sincerely yours,

Daniel

Summary: Fantastic!
Review: I absolutely loved this video, my only regret is that I didn't get to see the movie in the theatre. Julia Roberts is charming, as always...and Hugh Grant is...well hot. This movie really put a smile on my face. Who cares if it is unrealistic?

Summary: A splendidly romantic comedy!
Review: Notting Hill is a splendidly romantic comedy that fails in neither its romanticism nor its comedy. While it may appear that we have seen the lead actors tread these same waters, their performances are brilliant. There is a scene near the end (in the bookshop owned by Hugh Grant's character)where Julia displays amazing emotional depth. I felt what she felt, you could see it on her face. I saw this film in the theatres, twice on an airplane flight and twice on pay-per-view. I am buying the DVD as I must have this modern day classic in my collection. Absolutley lovely.
