Summary: Best Picture Right?
Review: I am in utter disbelief that this picture won an academy award let alone more than one, inlcuding best picture. They had fancy costumes, thats about the best part of the movie. I can't even call it a film. It's no more artisitc or moving than Doug's 1st Movie. Bah, what garbage. How bout these facts, Shakespeare was gay and he stole the idea of Romeo and Juliet from another writer. Thats the double truth Ruth. Poor Speilberg, his FILM deserved the Oscar and is a film every person on Earth should see as a reminder that yes, war is hell but it sometimes brings out the best and worst in people

Summary: Shakespeare In Love
Review: A very, very good film. Not as good as Saving Private Ryan, but very good. I give it 4 1/2 out of 5 stars

Summary: An Boring-okey satire
Review: This is almost perfect but for a couple of dreadful scenes especially the ending it's quite not that good baby. So if you want a nosensible movie see Shakesphere In Love .

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: wonderful acting. Superb casting. Excellent flick
Review: I saw this movie in the theatre and I absolutely loved it. Gweneth Paltrow was fabulous as William Shakespeare's love intrest. I also thought Fiennes delivered his second remarkable performance of the year. ( Elizabeth) I was also very impressed by the small but influential parts played by Geoffery Rush and Dame Judy Dench. This is a WONDERFUL movie that deserved it's best picture oscar.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The most compelling movie I have ever seen
Review: This movie is simple incredible. Gwyneth Paltrow was a sensational actress and fit the part incredibly well. She was comfortable with her own sexuallity and it made for a believable romance. Anyone who adores Shakespeare's poetic words should see this movie.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Gorgeous!

Summary: Mass Culture in Love, with Shakespeare
Review: A clever film and understandably successful at the box office. I discuss it at length in two essays, both in book collections, one edited by Don Hedrick and Bryan Reynolds entitled _Dissident Shakespeare_ (New York: St. Martin's Press, 2000) and the other entitled _Shakespeare, Film, Fin de Sicele_, edited by Mark Thornton Burnett and Ramona Wray (London: Macmillan, 2000).

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great Shakespeare, inspiration for the masses
Review: I've seen quite a few movies based on plays, and plays written by, The Bard. This is definitely well worth watching many times! Hopefully it will inspire those who haven't yet seen Romeo & Juliet, etc. etc. to go out and watch them - it enhances this movie greatly! Acting was superb, writing was brilliant. The awards it won were well deserved.

For those who complain about the sex - go watch a Disney movie instead of movies geared towards adult audiences. I enjoyed the sex scenes as well as the Shakespeare plays-within-the-movie. Life that Shakespeare wrote about in his plays *was* about sex, murder, betrayal and love. To sanitize this movie because of modern prudish timidity seems quite ridiculous.

Many of Shakespeare's plays were primarily *about* sex!! Read through the notes of some of his plays sometimes, and see what he was really saying in those scenes. They're only obscure to modern audiences because many people don't understand the references that were obvious to people of his time.
