Summary: Fun movie..
Review: This is a movie you can watch over and over!!I love it, at last a fun lesbian film with some decent love scenes. The movie is centred around Maggie a cute, young woman with a neurotic mother who is coming (with her brother) for a visit. Maggie is living in the bookshop where she works and has just met Kim played by gorgeous Christina Cox! (who I'm sure I saw in a crowd shot of Lilith Fair) They start a relationship just as Maggie has managed to sub-let an apartment and her family arrive.
Other fun and interesting characters include (Judy) a transexual, the bookstore owner and a bisexual, nyphomiac who also works at the bookstore. Once you have seen this movie a few times try watching it with the Director's Commentary which I found very interesting.

Summary: A little far fetched..
Review: This movie was highly recommended to me by my partner Greg. I tried watching it with an open mind, but ended up turning it off after about 45 minutes. For those of you who have never had a Godiva Truffle, you may acutally enjoy this. But for those of us who have sampled chocolates from around the world in all shapes and SIZES, this movie could be more accurately titled "False Advertising." I can't speak for all G&L's, but I would rather spend a Friday night with a 12" piece of dark chocolate than this movie any day!! :-)

Summary: Charming.
Review: I used to own the rated VHS version and was put off by the way the initial sex/love scene was edited.It always seemed contrived.This is a very cute movie,with a happy ending which is so rarely the case in lesbian movies.It's a feel good movie that might be lacking intellectual stimulation but has one of the most visually beautiful and inspiring love scene: I'm talking about the body painting scene.

Summary: Surprised but not Surprising
Review: The label on the movie is overdone very much. ONLY buy this movie if your looking for a good lesbian dramatic movie.
Maggie (Karyn Dwyer) & Kim (Christina Cox) are both wonderful in the movie. It just wasn't what I expected it to be.
[one review] says its: "SEXY! DELIGHTFULLY EROTIC!" After reading that review, I don't know about you but I'm looking for something a bit more than drama, and its not there.

Summary: Simply fantastic!
Review: Banned books, singing transsexuals, erotic bodypainting moments, an innocent heroine, and sexy little artist all mix together to create the wonderfully delicious "Better than Chocolate." As the love life of Maggie and Kim (a couple of hotties!) collides with the arrival of her recently divorced Mom and brother, sparks fly! Truly an enjoyable, entertaining couple hours of film. Has an awesome soundtrack, too!

Review: The movie in dvd was very good and the sound also. The movie was a good one to get and to watch. It has some funny moments in it for the 2 girls have interruptions during their initmate moments. If your not sure, defintely rent it and you'll end up buying it.

Summary: Good Movie
Review: A lot of lesbian movies are cheesy or have little (or uninteresting) plot. This movie has a great storyline, great characters, and is not cheesy in the least. It covers a bunch of issues, such as homophobia, coming out, falling in love, transgender issues.. And it handles them all with aplomb and sincerity. Not to mention the chemistry between the two main characters is very strong, and their romance really draws you in. The sex is good, the story is well-done, and I highly recommend this movie.

Summary: Better and better on rewatching
Review: First time I saw this I wasn't a huge fan but it really grows on you and gets funnier and funnier with every rewatching. Frances (Anne-Marie Macdonald) is absolutely hilarious and steals the whole movie as the buttoned down comfy shoe wearing gay book store owner having ongoing fights with Customs over censorship. That the actress who plays her is normally a successful playwright not an actress is even more astounding. Wonderful.
Kim is perfect as the cool drifter who woos Maggie and is the catalyst for everyone's lives changing, though really she does little herself to make it so. In essence she has little to do but react to every one else's drama. But she does this so well.Mercifully Peter Outerbridge's transgender Judy isn't a drag-queenesque caricature of woman like many men tend to play such roles - all high hair, sequins and excessive lippy. He instead does a stunning graceful performance as a man who believes he should have been born a woman - even more remarkable is the acting given he is normally a straight leading man who has never frocked up before in his life.
If you are hesitating on whether to buy this, I have never seen anyone not take something away from it - it has something for everyone. Heck, the Germans released it as a mainstream movie in hundreds of commercial cinemas. You don't do that if the audience demographic is only selectively small or the movie too alternative.
I only bought this for a friend but now I have fallen in love with this excellent quirky Canadian drama. The director's commentary informs me they filmed this in just 21 days. Get outta here. Those people are geniuses. It really smacks of quality. Truly delightful.

Summary: O to be a thespian...
Review: First class entertainment. BTC is one of the pitifully few Happy Ever After lesbian love movies, in that the two women neither die (High Art, Gia), nor fall into the safety net of "Confused girl marries guy in the end". While the film deals with many important issues, including the Transgender question, it is clearly out to entertain at every level. One of the highlights is Peter Outerbridge's "I'm Not An Effing Drag Queen" cabaret performance, concerning a pre-op transsexual who is outraged at the thought of being considered a mere cross dresser. In an industry in which Xena has yet to nail Gabby, (we can still hope) the love scenes in BTC are tastefully erotic and very believable. Yet another movie that proves that you don't need a big budget and star names to create superb end product.
