Summary: Wonderful Feel Good Movie!
Review: My daughter & I love this movie

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: True to the spirit of the novel...
Review: This Emma adaptation channels the buoyant tone of the novel perfectly. Paltrow's portrayal reveals both the sweetness and deluded superiority of the heroine, while Northam's captures Mr. Knightley's exquisitely quiet frustration. A beautiful production which ought to be a bit longer, so as to accommodate some important but largely neglected plot elements.

Summary: Absolutely wonderful!
Review: This movie is great. The acting is superb. The costumes are great. This movie is great even after reading the book.

Summary: Lovely, lovely, lovely
Review: If you are a huge fan of Jane Austin, than this is the movie for you! Based on the novel, this movie depicts Emma playing a matchmaker for everyone in town, and sadly ends up turning everone's happiness into some state of confusion. Luckily though, Emma comes to her senses, and she realizes her faults. I want to say that my favorite character in this play is Mr. Knightley for he is quite the gentleman, and I wish that there were men like that today...

Summary: Misguided, but somehow pleasing.
Review: There's no reason this should work as well as it does. This is a very broad adaptation and the performances in general are unsubtle and broad as well. Ms. Paltrow's accent is heinous, and Ms. Collette's work is frankly annoying (though that is in part as written.) As the movie moves from set piece to set piece, lingering endlessly on the beautiful design, one can't help but think that if Ms. Austen's Emma had actually had so much to do, she'd have been little bored enough to spend so much time meddling in her friends' affairs. But in the end, the good will evinced by all involved somehow makes a film that charms very much in spite of several and severe flaws. The BBC version of Emma is much superior in adherence to the Austen story, and Clueless certainly has the edge for humor, but this is a fair adaptation that ultimately is more success than failure.

Summary: Lovely Adaption to a Favorite Novel
Review: Jane Austen fans: your assignment is to watch this lovely movie.

It is my favorite adaption of Emma, and in my opinion it is superbly done. You have all the ingredients for a perfect Regency Romantic Comedy. A wonderful preiod film indeed.

1. A wonderful cast (the beautiful Gwenyth Paltrow makes a wondeful Emma, handsome, rich and clever. The character we all love to hate. She did a wonderful job as a meddling match-maker and she did it with a British accent that she acquired for this film. Jeremy Northam as the older and wiser Mr. Knightly. He was fantastic in the role. You fell in love with him because he is lovely to look at, but also he is so kind, good-hearted, and struggling with his love for another person. Then you have Frank Churchill by Ewan MacGregor and Harriet Smith by Toni Collete. They were terrific choices, when you reac the book and see the moive they are just like you pictured them. The rest of the cast is incredibly brilliant as well.)
2. Beautiful scenery, I don't know where they filmed it but I wish I could go to Highbury, it was so breath-takingly beautiful.
3. Lovely music. I love the music by Rachel Portman, this added to the movie so much. I recommend if you like it to go and buy the soundtrack. It is the best music in the world to listen to when you are reading. Perhaps, even reading Jane Austen novels!
4. Good plot, it is very difficult to take a 500 page book and fit it in two hours, the movie is accurate and highlights the most important parts of the novel.
5. Good acting, I can not say this much for the other adaption of Emma with Kate Beckingsdale. They were horrible actors, the whole lot of them. It felt so artifical, and she was so irritating as Emma, you couldn't warm to her at all. Eww and she was always wearing these ridiculous hats.
6. Lovely costumes and hairstyles. The women especially. Wouldn't you want your hair to look like Emma's?
7. And the last ingredients include ridiculous characters, engagements, weddings, secrets, undesireble suitors, dances, passion, discoveries, jealousy, and of course a happy ending.

I recommend this to everyone. It has everything. It is a brilliant work and so very enjoyable. I can never tire of watching it.

Review: I think this is the best romantic comedy ever! I love it and just bought it on dvd.

Summary: A wonderful, darling story!
Review: I am not a Gwyneth Paltrow fan, but I love her in this movie. No one else could be Emma, in my opinion. She shines in the title character, and creates headaches for all who know her. And check out the gorgeous Jeremy Northam as Mr. Knightly; wish he was my friend! Emma plays matchmaker for a couple of her friends, sometimes she hits and more often she misses. Watch as she learns not just some hard lessons about relationships, but also what her heart most desires. This movie has it all--humor, romance, drama, and Jeremy Northam. This is the perfect "chick flick" movie. See it with friends, or the one you love. But make sure you see it! And did I mention the gorgeous Jeremy Northam?

Summary: Insufferable!
Review: This movie is Not Jane Austen's work but the making of Hollywood EGO having the audacity to think that they will improve, change and rewrite the story. Does not reflect the brilliance of Austen. Movie is missing too much in script and characters.

Summary: 5 Stars isn't enough!!!!
Review: Emma is a wonderful movie!! I was having a sleepover one night with a friend. And it just happened that my mom had read through Emma in one day! She loved it! And then and there I remember her telling my dad to run up to the video store and rent the movie so she could see it. My dad went and immediately my family, and me and my friend, sat down curiously. Wow! Something captured me like a movie never has before! Me and my friend sat, and laughed, and mourned, and sighed in this wonderful re-make of Jane Austen's wonderful book. Emma (played by the beautiful Gwyneth Paltrow) is a somewhat smug, stubborn, and a we bit prideful, who has just succeded in matching off her well loved friend Ms. Taylor (Greta Scacchi) to a widower Mr.Weston. Encouraged by this success she moves on to her next victim Mr.Elton, the minister (Who doesn't act like one). She tries to match him off to the lovely Harriet Smith (Toni Colette) who is a shy, sweet, quiet girl who is new to Highbury. Plans seem to be going in the right direction. Harriet has fallen for Mr.Elton, causing her to turn down a proposal from a ver respaectable farmer. Mr.Elton also seems to have fallen for Harriet, but really he is very much in love with Emma.

He breaks the news to her one night after a party, and horrified Emma angrily reproaches him on his apparent affection for Ms. Smith. And almost faints when he says: "I never cared if Ms. Smith were dead or alive!" So Emma breaks the news to her heartbroken friend, who is going to have a hard time getting over him. Completely distressed, Emma consults the advice of the now Mrs.Weston, who advises her never to match anyone again. Now wait, I am leaving out one of the most important charachters! Mr.Knightly (Geremy Northam). He is a handsome, thoughtful, gentleman who is in love with Emma. His friendship means alot to Emma, but she has never felt a romantic attatchment to him. Also, angry that Emma has turned him down Elton goes to Bath. And returns home with a nasty woman he married (Juliet Stevenson). And then the pretty, gentle Jane Fairfax (Polly Walker) a relation of the silly, sweet Mrs. Bates, comes to visit. Mrs Bates played marvelously by Sophie Thompson (Who is the real life sister to Emma Thompson).

Then the son of Mr.Weston comes to visit his father. A son of his early wife, who he allowed to be brought up from his brother and sister in law. And then Emma thinks that she has fallen in love with him. But he is secretly engaged to...
Now I won't tell you anymore! For you have to see it to find out everyone's secrets, see who Emma really ends up with... This movie, every part, every scene, every word, is done with the utmost perfection. Gwyneth does a wonderful english accent! Everyone adopts their parts and makes them a part of themselves. I have seen tis movie countless times, and I honestly can say very earnestly: Well done Gwyneth!!!
See it! You will love it!!
