Rating: Summary: wonderful, touching, heartfelt movie Review: Shakespeare in Love is, with out a doubt, the best movie that I have ever seen. the chemistry between everyone in the cast is amazing. I was an overall great movie and anyone who doesn't see it at least 20 times is crazy.
Rating: Summary: Charming vision of Shakespeare Review: This movie is a nice romance, but the true enjoyment is in the portrayal of Shakespeare himself. It is interesting to se what could have been the motives behind the man. The romance is secondary, and at times contrived. It's best moments are directly lifted from Romeo and Juliet. Gyenyth Paltrow is beautiful(as usual) and Joseph Fiennes is both sexy and touching as Shakespeare. A good movie, but not quite worthy of all the fuss it generated.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed until I actually saw it... Review: When I watched the Academy Awards I was quite surprised that this film won academy awards for Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, among others... However, I also had not seen the other nominated films (Elizabeth, Saving Private Ryan, Thin Red Line, and Life is Wonderful). I was thinking that one of the war films would have to win Best Picture, but now that I have seen them I must say that Shakespeare in Love is easily the best film of the bunch. It has wonderful acting, beautiful scenery and costumes, and a very interesting story. This is not my favorite movie at all but it is up there. People kept on saying that Kate Blanchet should have gotten best actress, but personally I think she did not have nearly as good of a performance. In fact, I think Elizabeth was quite a sleeper. I would give that a 3 or so... See this film. It is well worth any amount you must pay to see it.
Rating: Summary: a comedy but not of errors. Review: I do sugest owning this timeless classic, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE it is the perfect movie showing how Shakespeare started writing ROMEO AND JULIET, or so the story tells. It's a good thing Paltrow came along and helped Shakespeare, or we would be lost (With a title like ROMEO AND "ETHEL THE PRIATES DAUGHTER") I'm a big fan of William Shakespears work, my favorite is shtill Hamlet, but this comes with a close tie.
Rating: Summary: Wow, now that's what I call a real artistic masterpiece ! Review: Joseph&Gwyneth had the best chemostry i've ever seen! It very much exceeded my expectations. It was a very fresh interpretation of Shakespeare and I hope to see a lot more of these wonderfull and talanted young actors!
Rating: Summary: Best Picture??? Review: I thought this movie was a cute, cleaver, charming film, but Best Picture??? and what's worse, Best Actress??? Honestly the one truly great aspect of this film in the great and cleaver script! As a writer, this is without a doubt a good one. Though, I urge everyone to go out and see Elizabeth and compare Gweneth's and Cate Blanchet's performances, and you decided which one deserves the Oscar! Gweneth was cute and again charming, though falls flat of portraying true grace, artistry, emotion, and character. In my Opinion, Cate was robbed. As a film student, Shakespere in Love is no where near the movie classics stage and will fade with time. It's a shame "Oscar" had to be degraded. Go back and see Elizabeth, and even Saving Pri. Ryan, which in all honesty deserved Best Picture, though if I had it my way, Elizabeth would've won it all.
Rating: Summary: What cinema should be. Review: This is what cinema should be. Amusing, romantic, humorous and intelligent. The more Shakespeare you know, the more you will enjoy it. And the bits that are genuine Shakespeare are well-acted, too. Gwyneth Paltrow goes up a long way in my estimation after this.
Rating: Summary: Cleverly humorous! Review: I found the film to be highly entertaining, filled with cultural and literary references hidden within the text. The presentation was wonderful and many things were culturally accurate. Both men and women will enjoy this. It's best if you are well versed in the works of Shakespeare otherwise much of it may pass over people's heads.
Rating: Summary: SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE is a joyous, wonderful film! Review: OK, first of all a confession: I haven't seen the DVD (nor the video), but I will. I HAVE seen the film and find it one of the most enjoyable and extraordinary movies ever produced. The film is a joyful examination of love, Elizibethan theater, and a delightful speculation on Shakespeare's creative process. The filming is breathtakingly beautiful; the actors' performances (all of them) are exemplary for their clarity, wonderful timing, and tremendous energy. The film is unique because of the way it communicates a love of theater and theater history. Obviously, not everyone loves this film, but I am so happy that it was made. I particularly enjoyed how the real people of Elizabethan theater were provided with characterizations that motivated and infused them with amazing vitality (such as the brilliant, comic, moment when Webster admits that he particularly liked TITUS ANDRONICUS). SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE is a treasure.
Rating: Summary: Extraordinarily Good Review: No mere costume piece, this film is fueled by an extremely intelligent script (that shows the experienced hand of veteran playwright Tom Stoppard). Everything clicks, the framing story of Shakespeare and his love, the oh so very Shakespearean play-within-a-"play" of Romeo and Juliet. Fun, smart, and intelligent without being snooty or cold and impassionate...
