Summary: "You mess with tha 'fro, you got ta go!"
Review: UNDERCOVER BROTHER is an intermittently funny spoof of 70s blaxploitation films, but you'd expect a white boy like me to say that. Eddie Griffin plays the title character, a hip undercover cop who wages war against The Man, who is (predictably) the evil boss of a corrupt multinational corporation, who wants "The White House to stay white". In order to achieve this The Man kidnaps the General (Billy Dee Williams) in order to launch operation Whitewash, a ploy to turn blacks over to white culture by contaminating the General's (not the Colonel's) famous Fried Chicken. (You know, if this was reversed, this movie probably wouldn't be able to play. Stupid huh?). Undercover Brother is assigned to rescue the General with the aid of his Brotherhood collegues Agent Sistah Girl and Conspiracy Brother. But the corps has sent their own secret weapon after UB, Penelope Snow (Denise Richards)- "Black Man's Kryptonite".
How funny you find UNDERCOVER BROTHER probably depends on how big a fan you are of the old '70s blaxploitation movies. 007 fans may be amused by the villains obligatory island lair which rips off MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN. Also co-stars Neil Patrick Harris (remember DOOGIE HOWSER?). But the personal highlight for me was Denise Richards wearing a skintight white latex catsuit for the entire movie. Meee-oww! Charlie Sheen's a lucky man! Look out for several gags in the end credits sending up popular African American films. UNDERCOVER BROTHER is an OK movie to watch with a group of friends, but its not about to turn into the next AUSTIN POWERS type franchise anytime soon.

Summary: Too Funky For Myself!
Review: This is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. I've seen this over 10 times by now. Eddie Griffin is absolutely hilarious. From him singing "Give Up The Funk" in his car to his laugh-out-loud white man impression, his comedic timing is awesome. Dave Chappelle is also very funny as the Conspiracy Brother. And Smart Brother seems to get funnier and funnier after each time I watch this movie. Many memorable quotes and an excellent job making fun of all the black and white stereotypes without being overly controversial. I would have to agree and say that all of those who think this is really offensive really need to stop taking everything so seriously. Lighten up and you will enjoy this movie a lot more. This is Blaxploitation at its finest. If you are looking for a new movie with great laughs, this is the one to see. Solid!

Review: Hillarious fun from beginning to end! If you like Raising Arizona, L.A.Story, o Brother Where Art Thou, you will probably get a kick out of Undercover Brother too. Not intellectual, but lots of fun.

Summary: A relentlessly funny parody of the 70's Blaxploitation genre
Review: I had very low expectations for Undercover Brother. From the trailers it looked to be a stupid comedy with at most a couple chuckles. I couldn't have been further from the truth.A surface look at the film may cause some to criticize it as a ... of the successful Austin Power films, but if they examined it closely they'd discover it's not. Rather, it's a parody of 1970's Blaxploitation films, such as the Shaft series and Pamela Griers film. Though I'm not thoroughly versed in that genre, I have seen enough of them to recognize the accuracy with which Undercover Brother spoofs them. The comedy is well thought out and definitely laugh-out-loud funny. This and Austin Powers in Goldmember are the two funniest films of 2002. It's true that some of the jokes fall flat, but there are so many gems in this movie that you don't have time to dwell on the bad ones. The fantastic 70's soundtrack accompanies the film perfectly, with wonderfully chosen tracks to fit each scene. Eddie Griffen as Undercover Brother and a great supporting cast, including Dave Chappelle, Neil Patrick Harris and Chris Kattan, crank out the laughs relentlessly. Undercover Brother proves to be a great send-up to those classic Blaxploitation films, and is hilarious even if you never saw them. However, seeing those films will adds countless more laughs to the plate. Recommended, especially for fans of the genre.

Summary: It Gets Funnier Every Time I Watch It
Review: I first saw UNDERCOVER BROTHER at a second-run theater, and then watched it on cable, but I am now a proud owner of the DVD. Each time I watch the movie, I find something new, and I laugh even more at my previous discoveries. Everything from Undercover Brother spinning his Cadillac without spilling his orange Big Gulp, to his funny one-liners makes this movie a riot. Neil Patrick Harris as the intern to the brotherhood (as a result of Affirmative Action) is a hoot. His comments make the film. (Watch when he gets slapped toward the end of the film for a great example). Billy Dee Williams is a catch too as the Colin Powell-ish former general who "helps you get your chicken on". Listen to the jingle for the General's Fried Chicken ("it's butt kickin' yeah yeah".) I would love to see a sequel to the movie, and since it did okay, but not great in its theatrical run, that may not happen; then again, AUSTIN POWERS: INTERNATIONAL MAN OF MYSTERY did not make a fortune at the box office, and look how its sequel did. Hope springs eternal.

Review: I've read a lot of reviews that indicated this film was full of racial stereotyping and that is insulting for this reason and that. That's the point. The film makes fun of the various stereotypes, both black and white, that exist now and and in the past. The film starts out with Undercover Brother, a modern day blaxploitation hero, as he teams up with the B.R.O.T.H.E.R.H.O.O.D., a secret agency seeking to promote black equality, to defeat the Man. The Man being the figure for the supposed white establishment that governs U.S. society. The Man is using a mind-controlled Black retired 4 Star General to distribute a mind controlling drug to the Black community via his chain of General's Fried Chicken (GFC) restaurants. All the U.S. loves the former potential presidential candidate General, he is so well spoken. Remind you of any other well spoken Black general who was a potential president candidate in 2000? As the film progresses the Undercover Brother and the The B.R.O.T.H.E.R.H.O.O.D. track down the Man and after a series of hilarious confrontations with the Man's troops and agents. The final confrontation takes place at the Man's secret Island. The end of the film is good and promotes racial harmony as members of both races realize the benefit of working together. I love Conspiracy Brother played by Dave Chappelle. Chappelle hasn't been so funny since his role as Reggie in THE NUTTY PROFESSOR (96). The music is great (I also bought the soundtrack) and anyone who grew up in the 70's will be taken back to their youth. You know the time when music was original and hadn't been sampled and rapped over multiple times and then passed off as new and original. The one remake is Snoop Dogg's "Undercova Funk" but it's hardly a remake as his Uncle, the original performer, Bootsy Collins remakes it with him. The DVD is well constructed. Plenty of extra features and a commentary. I enjoyed the cartoon shorts that the film was based on. I hope they make an Undercover Brother 2 but don't see how it could be funnier than the original. Until then I think I'll sit down with my Nappy Meal and rewatch UNDERCOVER BROTHER again.

Summary: Very Funky-Funny Movie
Review: Eddie Griffin is great in this movie. So is Dave Chappelle. Most of the comedy is mild, but there are a few parts that make you laugh so hard you barf! This is a very original comedy that deserves nothing less than 4 stars. I definetly recommend this movie if you can find it cheaper. The special features aren't that good.

Review: Once you've done that, you'll enjoy this movie. This is actually one the best SNL star movies I've seen to date. The movie is hilarious and for those who bring up "stereotypes" and such, please see my title. Just enjoy it for the humour and for the way Eddie Griffin brings the character to life.

Review: Before I saw the movie, I didn't think race would be an issue in the movie's plot. When they were joking about white people and black people, I started to get pissed off, not because the humor was offensive, but just stupid and annoying. "Ooh, the white man is the devil. White people LOVE mayo. Black people LOVE chicken." How retarded could a movie be? Not all white people are the devil, and the same for black people. White people LOVE mayo?! What kind of stereotype is that?! I'm not offended by it, I just think it's a pathetic stereotype, just like the movie. The scenes where these white people are eating mayo kinda make me sick thinking about mayo. And the stereotype about black people LOVING chicken is old. Whoever came up with the humor for this movie shouldn't be in a Hollywood trailer, but a trailer in the middle of Arkansas shootin' cans. And one other thing, whoever wrote that review with the title "Undercover Brother" is a real idiot. Gee, moron, I think we know the title of this movie.
