Summary: Excellent
Review: A strange journey into strange times. Murray does Thompson excellently but Boyle does not come near to doing as well as Del Toro in "Fear And Loathing In Las Veags".

A wonderful film. Sort of an older brother to "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas". This is one of those movies that the film makers know won't get good reviews. But they do it anyway. And films like this always find an audience which proves that there still are strange people in this world;thank God!

The film follows Thompson on his strange journey as he checks into a hospital to avoid a deadline, gives away his Superbowl tickets, and interviews Nixon at a urinal.

With music by Neil Young, Bod Dyaln, Jimi Hendrix, and CCR.

Ralph Steadman drew the title cards for the opening scene.

The best line in the film is the last. Also, if you are a true die hard Hunter S. Thompson fan, you have to buy it.

Summary: It's the Cheese!
Review: Note: This movie is about Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. And for those of you who already know this, I've read that Thompson was not happy with the outcome of this production. Based on other things I've read, it is my interpretation that he was unhappy with the storyline and not the acting. What you must keep in mind is that this movie was made in 1980. It was meant as a comedy and starred a cast member of SNL. But then again, Blues Brothers was a huge hit. The movie met with crappy reviews and had a short lived theater run-time. I happen to be a huge Hunter Thompson fan and love everything Thompson. I know all of Thompsons books and as much as he doesn't want to admit it, this movie is pretty much the man. This is not for everyone. Many would find it silly. In fact it is silly. I suppose the question would be: Do you Fear you might Loath this film? If that question exists in you, you simply MUST find out for yourself. If you don't understand the question, you're too late. Me? I loved it.

Summary: I agree. DO NOT Buy the Anchor Bay release of this film!
Review: Anchor Bay bought the rights to this film and for some reason only included a couple of the original songs. And they still advertise on the package that there is music from Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix. This music was taken out! Curse their flagrant lies! The music they added is some horrible studio band. The original music is a key part to this film. Why would any respectable video release company change an origianl film, and on top of it boast an advertisement for something that is not there? Find an original version of this film and
BOYCOTT ANCHOR BAY!

Summary: Murray and Thompson
Review: I first came across this movie by accident, it for one reason or another (probably due to Gilliam's Fear and Loathing) the movie was on some cable channel, I flicked to it and said, Is that Bill Murray? Is he PLAYING Hunter Thompson? As a fan of Thompson's work I think this film does an interesting job of presenting Thompson, I don't pretend to be an expert, but sometimes you can just enjoy something for the sake of what it is, maybe it's not Thompson in all his glory or maybe it is, whatever it is, it's worth the price of admission. Buy the ticket take the ride.

Summary: the funniest movie i have seen in a long time
Review: I am a hard critic when it comes to comedy movies. This movie was one of the best comedy movies i have seen in 6 months. You will want to c this movie over and over again

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: This is a must see!
Review: If you like the outlandish antics of Hunter S. Thompson and the comedic acting of Bill Murray, this movie will become one of you favorites. Although not as visualy stunning as Fear and Loathing, this film relys on the talent of its actors, and it does not disappoint. Also the character development in this movie is stellar, you really get some insight into these charactors. That coupled with a crazy story that seems to go nowhere until the end when you realize the movie has come full circle, makes this flick a classic. Period.

Summary: Sorry, but this was a baaaaddddd movie...
Review: First of all, I don't like Bill Murray, so the rating will automatically be dropped to three stars because of that factor. And second of all, it was just so boring! I was forced to watch this as a 'family time' event and I'll admit that I felt like poking out my eyes! Poor Hunter S. Thompson ~ I feel so bad for him for being portrayed by Murray. Had I been him, I wouldn't have been happy one bit. While it wasn't the WORST movie I'd ever seen, it was certainly on the bottom of my list.

Summary: Agreement with the music on the DVD
Review: When I first saw the movie a year ago,
I had rented it from Hollywood Video
on VHS. The VHS must have used the same
music on the DVD, because the DVD I
just recently rented used the same
chronologically distracting music.

Although it fit the time the movie
was made and it reminded me of the Cheech &
Chong movies from that time, it didn't
fit the time period the movie took
place... "why would HST be listening
to music like that in 1968???"
I honestly wasn't aware that this was new
music, and so I originally got the feel that this
was a just "low-budget" college flick,
with some really well-done scenes.
"Why does it say Neil Young did the music?
There's only a few parts he did... most of the
rest of the music sucks!" I thought back then.
Although the rest of the movie got better and
better the more I watch it, and I was
able to get past the music, it still
brings the rest of the film down
considerably. Hopefully, one of these
days I'll get a chance to view the original
production of this great film...

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good but not Accurate
Review: It's a funny movie and it's funny for it's fictional elements. I think that emulation of HST is a funny thing, but an excellent emulation is more amusing. this is why i would endorse fear and loathing rather than where the buffalo roam.

Summary: WARNING! Do not buy the DVD, Buy the VHS (it's on Amazon)
Review: WARNING! Do not buy the DVD, Buy the VHS (it's on Amazon)

I am a huge Bill Murray fan and have seen this movie at least 50 times. I obviously like it and I rank it near Murray's top behind Ghostbusters, Shack, Stripes and Ground Hog Day. However, one of the the great aspects of the movie is its amazing soundtrack: Jimi Hendrix's ax grinding staccato of Purple Haze as Thompson boards the Zoo press plane, Bob Dylan's Highway 61 on the road, Neil Young and more...

For some reaosn or another, the producers of the DVD cheaped out and put some candy-licking 80s mall music in its place because they did not want to pay for the rights to these phenomenol tracks.

STOP! If you have an ounce of respect for classic Bill Murray, do not buy the DVD. Furthermore, do not watch this decoy cotton candy Debbie Gibson meets Mr. Rogers DVD and walk around saying the movie sucks. You may only say that if you saw the original version. It's available on Amazon.
