Summary: Only laughed twice...
Review: After watching the first two I was hoping that this was be overthe top. My husband and I rented it, and we laughed twice. Usually in those movies, we are laughing the whole time.Laugh One: When Mini-Me with birthed by Austin (reminded me of an Ace Ventura 2 Moment out of the rhino) Laugh Two: When Dr. Evil started making out with that woman of his. (yuk! :) she has on a long blonde wig! Very funny!) Yuk Moments (or times to fast forward, or get some food, ect):
"Family" re-union you'll see, Any Time "Gold Member" is on the screen {he is just nasty}, any time "Beyoncé Knowles ... Foxxy Cleopatra" is on the screen (she can sing.. but NOT act. Man she was bad in this movie.. she run around going.. Shhhham.. shamm that. It isn't batman, anyway.. The Dr Evil "Rap" Song, It's bad, When Mini Me is dressed like Austin (THAT IS SCARY!!!) Over all it really was a waste of my two hours, I was very glad that I **ONLY** rented this movie, originally I asked for this for my x-mas gift with the other two. SO SO SO Glad I didnt get it!!!

Summary: Why so spectacularly disappointing and played so safe?
Review: It's hard to be hard on this movie, since I consider "The Spy Who Shagged Me" darn near a masterwork. I was pretty much swept up by it. I bought the McFarlane action figures, the voice decoder, the watch, the cardboard life size stand up Austin. Not to mention I ran around like an idiot saying "oh behave" to all of my friends. Pretty crazy, I must admit. But darnit, "Goldmember" just feels like a retread of earlier Austin Power gags which second time around pretty much don't seem that funny. It's hard to say why Myers resorted to so much self plagerism. Is he trying to create a kind of pantheon of "running gags", an Austin-mythology, so to speak? Or has he really run out of funny ideas? I sat thru the Meyers/Jay Roach commentary (not an easy feat) and found a couple of clues. Apparently the boys were playing it "safe". Roach keeps saying he shortened or cut out certain scenes to "keep it moving" and that the test audiences weren't "getting it". Excuse me, we weren't supposed to "get it" the first time around. And now that we do "get it", does that mean that we are in danger of not "getting it" the third time around? And why have such a reliance on test audiences? I have heard time and time again of potentially great movies being diluted, even destroyed, by paranoid studio execs who test and re-test their movies and demand cuts and reworkings. It's usually when the "director's cut" comes out that the filmmaker can finally say "ha ha, told you so". But wait, I'm getting a little too deep here for the subject matter. It IS just an Austin Powers movie, not "Apocalypse Now" for crying out loud. At any rate, I'm surprised that Myers and Roach fell for the second guessing game. Roach also admits that he wasn't too keen on Goldmember, the character, and kept him at a minimum. Less is more, so to speak. Excuse me, isn't the movie titled "Goldmember"? Another clue is that they added the Austin/mini me apartment battle practically in post production. That doesn't bode well, in retrospect. Sounds like there were some script issues right up to the end. Troubles in paradise, perhaps? Unfortunately (and you can't blame them) you don't get much more out of the boys in their commentary. They are too self congratulatory for that. "Man, you're a comedic genius". "Man, it's such an honour to have you direct my film". "Wait a tick, do you hear any body laughing at our movie?" "Well, no, but hey, you are some sexy beast".
Kinda like the emperor fiddling whilst Rome was burning, or something like that. I'm going to be a bit wary of the fourth one, if there is one, which is a shame. I love Austin Powers. I really do.

Summary: Austin oh Austin
Review: Alright let me say that this movie is [junk],as a big fan of the first 2 movies i'm shocked to say that but it is.I really tried with this one,i saw it 4 times just to find it good but it didn't work.You can tell that alot of money was put into this movie with all the celebrity cameo's but it was to the point of "cut it out already" so before i keep bringing down this one let me give you the plot. Dr.Evil is back from space and he has his headquarters in hollywood and they are using a talent agency to fuel the money for another "evil" plot.First of all beyonce knowles [stinks] as an actress and i say that in a nice way.The character goldmember is not funny and he eats his skin. Austin powers is not funny and his lines get repetitive.Dr Evil is a little better but he drags. Mini me is still cute but the cuteness wears out.Fat Bastard makes a brief apperance, the dvd extras [are awful] and that makes this a piece of trash. But thats my opinion.

Summary: Great Movie, But Beware!!!
Review: This movie is an excellent capper to the Austin Powers series. Any movie that makes me laugh again and again upon each viewing is worth 10 stars, but I'm into this sort of sophomoric humor, Bond satire, and the 60's. The only reason I'm writing this review is to warn other potential buyers that the Infifilm encoding on this disc may choke your DVD player. Specifically, on my Panasonic DVD-RV31 this movie plays great when viewed straight through. However, shortly after you start playing the movie the Forward Scan, Reverse Scan, and even the Pause button are disabled. The DVD player sees these buttons and puts up the "can't do that now" icon on the upper-right of my TV screen. It is interesting to note that if you start playing this movie from the main menu you can forward scan all you want, but once you reach the position you're interested in watching and play it for, say, a minute, the Forward, Reverse, and Pause buttons are locked-out. I've never tried to use the Infinifilm extras: this problem exists when you simply try to view as a regular DVD and simply want to back the film up or pause, or skip forward. At least one other reviewer of the movie reported this same problem, but blamed it on the disc. I'm suggesting that it could be a problem with certain Panasonic players, or a very unfortunate combination of issues: perhaps Infinifilm is attempting to exploit features on this disc that are in a gray-area of the DVD standard and Panasonic implemented those features in a slightly different way from expected. We have viewed two other Infinifilm DVDs on our Panasonic with no apparent problems: 13 days and Rush Hour 2. But, again, we never tried to use the extras, so the Goldmember disk is definitely unique. The bottom line: rent or borrow this movie and test it out on your machine before buying it. Then, get it!!! It's Hilarious!!!

Review: Horribly unfunny, almost painful to watch - tries to rely on jokes that wouldn't even make a third grader laugh. This is one of the worst movies we've EVER seen. Please don't waste your time!! YUCK!!

Summary: Goldmember. Good Movie, Okay DVD
Review: This isn't a review about the actual movie, but the DVD itself. The Austin Powers Movie: Goldmember, was wonderful and very funny. However, the DVD does not live up to the movie. The DVD has several wonderful features in it: The Infinifilm opition which allows you to watch the movie and access speical features that tells you about how the movie was made and the concept of everything. However, there were several features in the DVD that made the DVD worse. First off, unlike most DVD's the DVD was in the Full Screen Version, which cuts off part of the movie itself. Second off, the movie doesn't have subtitles at all, which makes it hard for anyone that can't hear well or that don't know English to watch the movie. Pros:

Summary: Solid gold
Review: Goldmember is my favorite of all three Austin Powers films. I thought the first was too over-rated, and the second was too excessive. The third, however, finds a nice balance. Goldmember himself is hilarious, however he is not on screen that much, and the visit into 1975 would have been even funnier if it were extended. Beyonce as Foxxy Cleopatra is my favorite Powers Girl - she has a nice acting style. The DVD is fine, as well, with several deleted scenes that made me laugh out loud and would have worked well if they had been included in the film. I liked "Idiot Convention" the best. The Infinifilm gimmick, however, was a waste. It's just another way to access the bonus features by watching the film. Why do that when you could just watch them from their own menu?

Summary: DVD FUNCTIONALITY PROBLEMS
Review: This DVD is made by New Line's division of Infinifilm. For some reason, the functionality of this DVD doesn't work on Panasonic players. About the only functions that work are Stop and Play. I feel sorry for Panasonic, because I got my DVD player for Christmas and thought it was a problem with the player. So I took the player back and exchanged it for another Panasonic player. But the "Pause" still didn't work. I just today found out that it is a DVD/Infinifilm issue and not a player issue. I'm afraid Panasonic is going to lose a lot of money if more people like me start trading in their players, because they think they don't work properly. Maybe Infinifilm should include a list of brands that its discs don't work with.

Summary: Way Too Much Bathroom Humor
Review: There are just way too many scenes in this film, where there is an attempt to grab a cheap laugh with some bodily function. What has that got to do with a spy spoof? If the film is supposed to satirize James Bond then do it. When a film has to resort to numerous scenes involving defecation, urination, and passing gas that really shows a lack of creative writing. These might be good for a laugh or two early in the film, but it gets old real quick.
