Summary: CLASSIC FUNNY MOVIE, DVD VERSION NOT WORTH THE EXTRA DOLLARS
Review: Okay, so I sinned and purchased a film that isn't anamorphic, heck this DVD isn't even widescreen! But it didn't cost much more than the VHS tape. Unfortunately there aren't any extras on the disc, behold why so inexpensive, and the picture and sound quality make me wonder if I would have been just as well off purchasing the VHS version. The only problem would be that I don't pop in my VHS movies any more. This movie is very funny. Steve Martin plays a great italian mobster and Rick Morranis plays the perfect boring federal agent. If you don't find yourself quoting this movie then either you're too serious, or I'm too easily amused. The movie is a 4 star movie, if only this movie could get a quality DVD transfer some day.

Summary: A Liftoff In the 90s For 3 Great Actors
Review: "My Blue Heaven" is an undying comedy that places three completely different and contradicting personalities together for a good comic make-up. Steve Martin is very good, but a little stereotipical of the average New York Mafia man, who enters the witness protection program and gets pulled from his fast-paced life in the big city...to a sleepy small suburban town. He comes under the protection of an FBI agent played by Rick Moranis, who struggles throughout the movie to keep Martin from breaking the law as he is so used to doing. Joan Cusack is the town's A.D.A. Hannah Stubbs, who gets frustrated trying to detain the town's new mob-man everytime he commits a petty crime...but is always thwarted by Moranis who wont give'em up. Joan and Rick Moranis find love in eachother, differences aside, but the ever troublemaking 'Vinnie' can't seem to stop getting in the way. Three great actors are just what a script like this needs to make it work, and it does. Joan gives an overall fabulous performance, I havent talked to somebody yet who doesnt like the scene where she puts her personal problems aside and has a dance on the beach. The kiss scene between she and Moranis works well, I think the close up on Joan's face there is one of the prettiest Ive seen of her. Trust me, if you've read some of my other reviews, Im trying to state the quality of good movies that often get passed up without a thought, this is worth watching more than once.

Summary: THIS IS FUNNY!!
Review: For the movie critics and other people who criticized Steve Martin for a "spoofy" portrayal of an Italian mobster.......that was the point! (hahaha) Anybody knows, if you want a "real" portrayal, you get De Niro or Pacino. This movie was meant to be cheesy and that's what makes it laugh out loud funny. I watched this movie years ago and it just made me laugh so much. The Mambo dance scenes alone are worth the cost. I do have to agree with a fellow review writer -- the DVD holds no extras, at all. I would have loved to have seen some outtakes. Still, at least I can play my favorite scenes over and over.

Summary: Hillariously funny, im many ways
Review: Hillarious!! Steve Martin and Rick Moranis, what a pair! Not many people realize that in some movies, the fact that they aren't even close to what their character is supposed to be like is supposed to happen. The acting is wonderfull, the script, excellent, and everything just runs together nicely.

This movie is awesome, and if you don't start quoteing the movie, well, everyone thinks they have a sense of humor, even those who dont. You should watch it.

Summary: A NY gangster in the witness protection program
Review: Steve Martin is one of the worlds best known comics, and this is perhaps his best roll so far. The story is about Vinni, aka Todd Wilkensen, (Martin), a New York City gangster enrolled in the witness protection program. He is sent to a yuppy town near San Diego called Fryberg. The FBI agent (Rick Moranis) assigned to look after him is a systematic, recently dumped man named Barney. It isn't easy to break old habits, and so Vinni gets involved in any crime that he can, and always trying to talk his way out of persecution from the local D.A. (Joan Cussak). This is an incredibly funny movie that shows the difference between New Yorkers and the yuppies of Fryberg. This humor is characterized by a grocrey clerk saying "Have a nice day," and Vinni returing with "F*** you." The humor is smart and quick, all topped off by great acting from Martin, Moranis, and Cussak.

Summary: One of the most quotable comedies around!
Review: I have loved this movie ever since I first saw it. It has provided me and my friends with endless quotes that we still use as if the movie had just come out. I understand that it is not 100% legit and believable, but it was not meant to be. It is a comedy and a damn good one at that. Steve Martin is great. You've gotta love the dancing. That is one of my favorite parts. You have GOT to love when Vinni and Barney are shoved together on the dance floor and Vinni grabs a handfull of Barney's butt with authority. I couldn't breath when I first saw that. This movie is just plain fun. If you're looking for a story about a mobster in the WPP that is funny, good luck. This is fiction and fiction can be funny. Go rent it!

Summary: Pretty Darned Awful
Review: There are many things Steve Martin is, but an Italian mobster is not one of them. The fact that he was even cast in this role is really insulting to my intelligence. His accent was awful, and he looks nothing like the part. Don't get me wrong, Steve Martin is a funny guy, but this just didn't work.
The idea of casting Rick Moranis as an F.B.I. agent actually is funny, but the idea is as about as far as it gets.
The script to this movie is no good, and the acting is never more than mediocre. There's just nothing enjoyable here, nothing to make ya laugh.

Summary: Excellent stage for Steve Martin
Review: Though Steve Martin's "wise guy accent" isn't very different from his "wild and crazy guy" Czech accent, the movie is still a light-hearted romp that perfectly showcases his good-natured and goofy sense of humor. That said, what makes the movie a worthwhile buy is the work of Joan Cusack, easily the best (and most underrated) comedienne in movies today.

Summary: A great comedy, if lacking DVD features
Review: This is a great comedy. You won't find a second disk full of director's comments or actor's remarks, or cut scenes...but you will have a very funny movie to watch.

Steve Martin is at his best, portraying a New York mobster in the witness protection program. He has been relocated to friendly, sunny southern California--"hell" as he puts it.

He's miserable until he finds a cadre of similar transplants and gets back to his gangster ways. Along the way he charms a DA, a police woman and teaches his FBI watcher that there is more to life than a boring job.

This is one of the better Steve Martin comedies, ranking up there with _Father of the Bride_ and _Planes, Trains, and Automobiles_.
