Summary: ABBIE-NORMAL CLASSIC!
Review: What can one say about about a true comedy classic? Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder turned Mary Shelly's FRANKENSTIEN story on its head and made one of the funniest movies of all time. There are so many great lines and comedic moments in the film that if I were asked to list them all I know I would forget some of them due to sheer number alone. Brooks assembled a great cast and there's not a bad performance in the film. Marty Feldman as Igor, Peter Boyle as the Monster, Madeline Kahn as Elizabeth, Terri Garr as Inga, and even a cameo by a well known dramatic actor, are all side-splitting in this spoof. I rank the movie as Brooks and Wilder's best film. This 1974 film has not aged at all. It is truly timeless. Having it presented in letterbox on DVD is just great.

The Special Edition DVD has a great commentary (lifted right from the Laserdisc release) track by Brooks. There are bloopers, some behind the scenes footage and and a very rare foriegn press interview with the late Marty Feldman about the film prior to its release. If you want a good laugh, this is your best bet. If you have already seen the movie, why are you even reading this review, you should own a copy by now.

Summary: Wait, I was going to make Espresso!
Review: I went to NYC to see this film the week it opened and laughed so hard that I was exhausted at the end of the show. This film has more quotable funny lines than most Marx Brothers movies - "What hump?", "Hello handsome!", "Sedagive!", "He's going to be very popular", "Woof!", "Ovaltine?", "Blucher!", "Nice grouping", "He will curse the day he was born a Frankenstein - what?", "No tongues!", "Pardon me boy, is this the Transylvania station?", "Walk this way, this way this way" You get the picture. Fans of the original Frankenstein trilogy (Frankenstein, Son of and Bride of..) will recognize where Mel got his inspiration (OK, he stole shamelessly). All of the players give lifetime achievement performances - Hackman as the gay blind man should have gotten an Academy Award nomination ("You were tallest in your class" "Cigars!"). Marty Feldman was perfect as Igor ("It's pronounced eye-gore") Ditto for Wilder as Young Frankenstein ("That's Fronk-in-steen" - "You're putting me on?") Every scene with the late Ms.Kahn is inspired ("Oh sweet mystery of life at last I've found you."). Cloris Leachman as Frau Blucher ("He was my boyfriend!") and Teri Garr as Inga ("Roll, roll, roll in za hay") are the perfect foils for the main joke ("All his organs would have to be increased in size") Kenneth Mars and Peter Boyle round out the players. Beg [or] borrow ... a copy ASAP. This is Brooks' funniest film and probably the best comedy ever made, bar none.

Summary: How can you hate this film?
Review: OK< this film is a total classic. How can you hate it? It ranks up there with "Ghjostbusters" and "reposessed," not to mention "Saturday the 14" as classic parody film.

There is a fine line between laughture and terror, and this film cuts across all boundaries!

Summary: Brilliant Brooks, WIlder, and Kahn
Review: Inspired beyond words, "Young Frankenstein" ranks with "Blazzing Saddles" and "The Producers" as Mel Brooks' finest contributions to film. And, we must be grateful for his mettle, his moxie and unparalleled genius as he romps his way through the classic Monster tale of all time. Marty Feldman is indelible and unforgettable as Igor, the irreplaceable Madeline Kahn won an Oscar Nomination, and the film served as comedic landmarks for the lieks of Terri Garr ( Tootsie) and the legendary Gene Hackman. Some scenes are side-splittingly funny, and others lighthearted and tender in the way only Brooks and Wilder could possibly pull off. In fact, Wilder deserves a lot of praise as Mel Brooks' "everyman" though he can sometimes play the role so straight, he loses himself to the kooks all around him. "YOung Frankenstien" is perhaps his best Brooks character if for no other reason than he is equally looped out and bizarre, part Willy Wonka, part nerdy gunslinger. He's hilarious and gentle here, in a movie that will tug your heart even while you're coughing it up laughing!!!

Summary: Essential for Any Library
Review: Regardless of your particular angle, "Young Frankenstein" and "Blazzing Saddles" are essential to any DVD library. Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks are comic geniuses each with a better understanding of timing than a tap dancer.

Summary: Please don't misunderstand
Review: When I bought the DVD of Young Frankenstein my hopes were high, however I had already purchased and seen the limited VHS version. So first off may I say if you have seen the limited edition VHS version don't, I repeat don't buy the DVD. Now if you haven't seen the limited edition version on VHS, the DVD offers delted scenes which are funny and would have fit well with the movie, however the best part is he outakes. If you think that the movie is funny by itself just watch these great actors and actress have a little fun with the movie. I would definately recommend buying the DVD if you enjoy the original Young Frankenstein. Oh I'm sorry Fronkensteen. Ü

Summary: Good Movie
Review: Young Frankenstein is a funny movie with an awesome scipt. It is a little easier to understand some parts with seeing parts of Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein. This is probably one of the funniest and best movies around. This is maybe the best Mel Brooks flim ever and has great details. The cast does and great job.

Summary: I'm the only one.
Review: Don't get me wrong, the movie is well done. Details, black & white, great execution. Funny, but not side splitting funny as everyone would have you believe. Have a few beers first.

Summary: Study Up!
Review: One of Brooks' three best films (with The Producers and Blazing Saddles), this one is best seen having done a little research. If you are familiar with the Universal horror films of the thirties (especially, of course, the Frankenstein family), this should make more sense as a parody than to those uninitiated viewers. Although, there is plenty to amuse even newcomers to the genre. But beware, because to paraphrase an old Oldsmobile ad--this is not your grandfather's Frankenstein.
