Summary: Your brain must be made of "DOO DOO" if you dont buy this!!
Review: There are so many great things to say about this film.... So I make another list...

-If you've never seen this, it's not scary. Great spoof-humor throughout.
-If you don't like Mel Brooks stuff, try renting it. It is...
-Mel Brooks's best work.
-All of the performers absolutely nailed their roles. I had forgotten Gene Hackmans classic performance. Outstanding!!
-"Widescreen Review" gives the DVD 3.5 picture and 2.0 sound quality ratings.
-I would disagree. This is a Spoof of the classic "Frankensteins Monster". I believe this film was recorded in mono to mimic the feal of the original.
-The picture quality is actually quite clear.
-The extras are better-than-average for a DVD of this price.
-Included are deleted scenes and outakes. The "Parade of the Actors" is wonderfully zany!! Great stuff!!
-Great for Halloween when you would rather laugh than cringe.
-Not for young kids. They wouldn't get the jokes anyway.

I bought this as an afterthought. I was pleasantly surprized at what I got. If you're a Brooks fan... What are you waiting for? If not, rent it and see. I don't like averything he's done, but this one is a must have.

Summary: It's Igor sir.
Review: Young Frankenstein is easily one of the funniest films ever made. Not one joke has lost its payoff, and none of the countless gags have lost their zany appeal. From a career that includes some of the best comedies ever made, this is the film for which Mel Brooks will be most fondly remembered. It spoofs Frankenstein and The Bride of Frankenstein perfectly. It is so funny that I garantee you'll wet your pants. The only reason not to like this is if you consider yourself to good for the low-budget slapstick movies, or if you have no sense of humor at all, because each of the jokes are perfectly delivered. You must see this ... Any rating below 5 stars should be considered blasphemy! Buy it imediately!!!!

Summary: I have a "hunch" you'll love this!
Review: Frederick Frankenstein (Gene Wilder) wants nothing more than his job teaching biology at the university, the love of his life Elizabeth (Madeline Kahn), and to put behind him the legacy of his grandfather, the infamous Baron Viktor von Frankenstein. He never planned on inheriting his ancestral castle complete with assistants (Marty Feldman, Terri Garr, Cloris Leachman). He never planned on finding his grandfather's notes . He didn't plan to reanimate a corpse (Peter Boyle) with an abnormal brain. And he certainly didn't plan for said corpse to get loose...

Put that way, this hardly sounds like a comedy at all. Ah, but Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks, like Dr. Frankenstein, have deftly grafted inspired lunacy to a touching and solid story and given their creation life. Wordplay, slapstick, innuedno, sight gags and cinema's most memorable musical scene combine in a hilarious brew. Yet it is the original core, the story of the deformed oucast and the creator who ultimately redeem each other, that keeps it all from simply being vaudeville. Peter and Gene are fabulous at being silly and sincere simultaneously.

On to the extras! The trailers and production stills are nice, standard fare. The outakes are little disappointing. Several of the clips are close-up shots of a single performer, the camera never moving, so we hear the cast and crew cracking up, but don't always understand why. Some of the deleted scenes were pretty funny, and a shame they didn't make it into the final cut. The making of documentary interviews several of the key figures and does a good job of exposing what exactly it took to make the film. (Note to techno-geeks: not much detail on special effects, if that's your thing.) Also, there a couple of interviews done for a Mexican studio with Marty and Gene (don't worry, they also speak English).

Did you ever watch old home movies with, say, an uncle who'd reminisce and sometimes just make silly comments about what's going on? OK, now imagine that your uncle is Mel Brooks and that his home movie is this multi-million dollar spectacle. That's what the comentary track is like. It was really neat to hear not only what Mel had in mind for the various scenes, but his unabashed adulation at the creative talent he had to work with. He even talks about the fellow who plays Inspector Kemp's chauffeur!

All in all, a wonderful movie with a good helping of juicy extras.

Summary: when you're blue and you don't know where to go to...
Review: ... why don't you go where fashions sits - - puttin' on the ritz...

this has to be one of the funniest scenes in cinema history - it makes me cry with laughter every time i see it.

also - there is a great reference to Mrs. Danvers (the housekeeper in "Rebecca") in Frau Blucher's mole. that mel brooks is so clever.

young frankenstein is a wonderful movie: funny, smart, and subtle (yes, subtle - despite the many slapstick moments).

absolutely deserving of all the kudos it has received, this is a masterpiece. SEE IT!

Summary: Genius in Black & White, Horror as never been Funnier
Review: This is by far the best Mel Brooks feature ever made. There isn't any part of this movie that lags. I grew a deep appreciation for Marty Feldman after seeing this movie the first time when I was a kid! Moreover, later in life, I finally saw Gene Hackman, never realizing before he was the blind man! Although I've seen different bits of this movie from time to time on different television stations, some more daring than others, I think this complete version is worthy of any Life Time Achievement awards someone wants to hand out to Mel Brooks. I am waiting to purchase 'Blazing Saddles' for the shear fact of content. I want the extended version of Cleavon Little's (Bart, Sheriff of Rock Ridge) tormenting of Alex Karras (Mongo); believe it folks, there's a whole segment of Bugs Bunny antics that's missing from the film out now. As for this one, what more can be said of genius. While my wife's favorite Mel Brooks film is 'Spaceballs,' I'll stick with this one!

Summary: the funniest movie ever made
Review: Never mind the AFI ranking it #13 on its comedies list; "Young Frankenstein", for my money, is absolutely the funniest movie ever made. You don't have to be familiar with the 1930s classics to which it pays cockeyed homage (although knowing those films will deepen your appreciation of this one) to laugh yourself sick!

Summary: I suggest ya poot on a tie! :)
Review: This is one of the few DVDs out there (especially a comedy DVD) that has all of the extras a DVD should have.

There is an option to listen to director Mel Brooks talk about the movie while you're watching it (the movie volume during this is near silent while he's talking). I suggest you watch the movie twice: once to concentrate on the movie and another time to concentrate on Mel's comments.

There are also several bloopers and deleted scenes. You should watch the deleted scenes first because most of the bloopers are from the deleted scenes.

The DVD also includes both theatrical and TV commercial trailers.

AND, there are several dozen behind-the-scenes photos from different parts of the movie.

Don't speak English? Then how did you get this far? (ba dum bum) :) Actually, the DVD also translates in Spanish and French.

For those looking for easter eggs, I haven't found any yet either.

If you love to laugh, this is a must have dvd.

Enjoy!

Summary: Mel Brooks Fans Unite!
Review: I think this is Mel Brooks' best movie. It was an instant classic. If you're a fan, you have to buy the special edition DVD. It has interviews and behind the scenes commentary with Gene Wilder, Mel Brooks and even some of the movie company people who produced. Some of the documentary portions are as funny as the movie!

Summary: Great movie
Review: This is without a doubt an American comedy classic. This movie is full of memorable scenes that will just make you laugh every time you think about them. Also, the cast for this movie is excellent. Marty Feldman (Igor), Gene Wilder (Dr. Frankenstein), Cloris Leachman (Frau Bleucher), Teri Garr (nurse-assistant), and a cameo appearance by Gene Hackman playing a blind hermit make this Mel Brooks comedy awesome. I highly recommend this film to everyone
