Summary: the one that started it all...
Review: I'm disappointed that Christopher Guest, being the brilliant director that he is, has only made 3 major movies in his long career. This one, Waiting for Guffman, and Best in Show. Owning both of the latter movies, i decided to rent the one that started it all. And while it was funny, and was a brilliant directoral debut and a groundbreaking movie for the new genre in 1984, this one doenst measure up to his other movies. Its a cult classic, and i can see why. Its that certain type of humor that some think is hilarious, and some just dont get. There small chuckles throughout the movie, like when they are describing their anti-femenist album cover, and some great moments where i almost laughed until i cried- like when they had the 18 INCH stone display on the stage, and when they were in those bubble things and one of the guitarists couldnt get out. Im laughing out loud just thinking about it now. But do yourself a favor and rent this- even if you dont like it, just to say that you have seen it. Its less than 90 minutes long, so even if you dont like it its not too overbearing.

Review: This is one of my favorite movies, no doubt. Come on- how can you resist a movie that features, among other things, a bizarre gardening accident, undersized bread, barbershop raga, and dancing dwarfs? To quote Nigel Tufnel, This Is Spinal Tap goes all the way to 11.

Summary: This Is Spinal Tap
Review: Rob Reiner delivers the goods in this hilarious "documentary style" account of the rock group "Spinal Tap". This movie is a direct parody of the 70's music scene. If you remember that time period, you can take the journey back...but this time, be ready for the laughter. I strongly recommend this movie to musicians - especially those who performsd during this time setting. They'll truly appreciate the humor! This DVD is a "must see".

Summary: This Movie is a Riot
Review: This is one of the funniest parodies of all time. Spinal Tap is SO good, in fact, that you can turn to VH1 after watching it, and bust a gut laughing at the REAL rockumentaries! If you think I'm exaggerating, try "The History of the World: Part IV: The Metal Years". It's a REAL rockumentary, but after watching Spinal Tap, it'll have you in stitches.

Summary: essential for music obsessive types
Review: This is one DVD where you get your money's worth. All but a few of the extra scenes are fantastic. Especially wonderful are the bits where the band is musing about the speed of elevators and how your neck brakes if you break the sound barrier or the band's philosophising on the diet of gorillas - "Gorillas - culture, baboons - subculture". Oh, I forgot about the deleted scene where the Sinatra-obsessed cab driver parties with Spinal Tap.
What's great about a DVD is I can pop it in view a selected scene, say, You Can't Dust for Vomit and get a quick laugh.

Summary: The Ultimate Mocumentary
Review: This is exactly the DVD you want to buy, because Spinal Tap only gets better each time you watch it. It's silly, weird and smart in its humor, and it's really the standard by which all mocumentaries should be judged by. A true classic every comedy fan should own.

Summary: A DVD worthy of the film
Review: Finaly, A DVD adds up to the great film. Lets start with the fim itself. Spinal Tap is a rare comic gem. A masterpeice if you will. If I didn't know better, I would have thought this was a real documetury. It's shot just like what. And it demenstartes how a rock band would act back stage. For instance, Nigel (Guitarist) complains about how small his bread is and that he wants it bigger. And when Spinal app can't figure out where the heck the stage is. The Extras are amazing. The commentery is very funny, with the actors portraying themselves as the characters. Even though this great, I would like it if they included a commentery with the rea actors. The 70 minutes worth of deleted scenes are great as well. They add much to the plot are actualy funnier than what appears in the film. The rest are music videos are entertaining and the commercials for "Rock and Rolls" are odd, but ae funny.

Summary: I'd give in an "11" if I could
Review: This is Spinal Tap was basically an improvisation by some of the funniest comics working during the early 1980s. While the 80 or so minutes that made the final cut are priceless, there was plently of gem material left on the cutting room floor. The deleted material is the strongest feature in this very impressive DVD. The picture quality is relavitely poor in some areas of the cut material (it's likely the film wasn't stored under ideal conditions), but virtually everything is good for a laugh.
The audio commentary done from the perspective of the Spinal Tap characters is also funny, but no more interesting than the commentary Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer and Michael McKean did on the original DVD release. The character's commentary actually grows a bit tired after a while.
The menu boards are attractive and hilarious.

Summary: You can't really dust for vomit
Review: Any Tap-heads out there need no introduction to this bona fide classic. Simply buy the Special Edition DVD today and cherish it for life. Tons of extra goodies make it the definitive home video version. I'd also strongly recommend a killer new VHS release called "Welcome to the Rainbow". It's a hilarious rockumentary featuring Ozzy Osbourne, Lemmy of Motorhead, Ron Jeremy and other rock 'n roll lifers. Almost as funny as Tap -- and it's all true!

Summary: A great buy
Review: Spinal Tap is a very entertaining movie that pokes fun at the pretensions we've all come to associate with washed up rock stars. However, this movie also has something to say on a religious level that escapes most people. Did you notice that the band's fortunes really start to decline when they dismiss their manager Ian? In other words...they lose "faith". Then when they perform at the amusement park amphitheater did you notice the people giving them the "thumbs down". Well, that was the signal in Roman times for the performers(usually gladiators) to be killed. When Ian returns they are resurrected to tour Japan. I know, I know, people will say I'm reading way to much into a movie that's just meant to provoke a good laugh(which it does). But there's to much symbolism in this movie for it to be dismissed as coincidence. This is a multi-layered movie that is well worth your time and money.
