Summary: Problems with Special Edition
Review: There are many DVD players that have a problem with unwanted english subtitles appearing in this film. CTHE has taken the position that if you are willing to spend more money to send the defective DVD back to them, they will replace it "sometime after Thanksgiving". Given the large number of DVD players that this title has problems with I think it is blot on their reputation that CTHE is still distrubuting these defective discs.

Summary: We're Knights of the round table...
Review: I must say, I agree with Amazon's review of the film. I'd never even seen any of the sketches before I watched the Holy Grail and Life of Brian. Thank the heavens that this is NOT a rare film! With such quotable quotes as "It's just a flesh wound" and the ever remembered "Ni!" and the catchy "Knights of the round table" it's not hard to see why this was re-released. Stuck-up ninnies like Leonard Maltin who will stick to their classic black-and-white Bogarts will say things such as "For fans". Leonard Maltin can go to Antarctica as a "Penguin on the telly" as far as I'm concerned. Don't listen to him. Listen to the EXPERTS at Amazon. Did they not put it under "Essential Videos"? Watch it! Buy it! Whatever! Just enjoy the thing! And if you could get me a shrubbery while you're at it, that would be nice.

Summary: This is why we buy DVDs
Review: I'll not talk about the film itself, because there's plenty of people to tell you how original and funny it is. No, the greatness of this is the DVD. The print of the film is bright and sharp (unlike on the old VHS versions), and all the extras really make this well worth the cost. The documentary with Michael Palin and Terry Jones retracing their film locations is wonderful, as are the many commentaries, and of course, the "subtitles for people who don't like the film." If you're a Monty Python fan, you own a DVD player, and you DON'T have this DVD, it's an outright sin. Even if you have the old DVD, burn it and buy this one. This is a prime example of why DVD is so much better than VHS.

Summary: "It's just a flesh wound..."
Review: The words of a knight whose arms have been hacked off in combat never sounded funnier than it does in this film. Despite one or two slow periods in the film, this is definitely a comedy you need to have a pulse to get. The DVD specal edition has it's own little moments of humor as well. Not only do you have commentaries from the members of Monty Python (above ground, anyway), but even subtitles in Shakespearean form (for the more high-brow types). The second disc is where you'll find a shrubbery full of features, including sing-alongs and my prsonal favorite in this set, part of the film done with Legos (you know, the blocks you put together to make stuff that you may have played with during your kiddie years)! For Monty Python fans and fans of insane and confusing comedy, this one's definitely for you.

Summary: Pros and Cons of the Special Edition
Review: Points:1. This is probably the most "special" of special editions in existence. I've never seen so many extras on a DVD. They are plentiful and well done, and the classic Python humor pervades them all. Two separate tracks of very funny commentary by the surviving Pythons, a new 50-minute "return to the Holy Grail locations" documentary that is VERY cool for fans, and LOTS more. I don't want to spoil the surprises...but there are some great surprises! 2. I've read the other reviewers who said they've had problems with subtitles popping up during the movie, even when they turned them off repeatedly. I haven't had that problem, so I'm not sure what to say about that. Apparently this is more a problem with some DVD players than with others. But mine has been glitch-free. 3. The menus are terrific, and consist of crazy Gilliam animations that go on for a long time before repeating (if you want to sit and stare at the menus, that is). Very fun to watch, relative to your typical DVD menus. 4. There are no "pink frilly edges," and I don't think anybody ever seriously intended to have them. That was just a joke on the box cover. I'm glad they aren't there, actually...it would have gotten old very quick. 5. Apparently one or two of the swedish subtitles during the title sequence may be missing (?). I didn't notice it, but another reviewer did. Most of them are there, at least. If this small omission bugs you, you've been warned. 6. The only pseudo-glitch I found was pretty minimal. When I went to the photo sections, a picture would pop up clear and fine...but after about two seconds, the image would sort of 'shift', and would become slightly less focused than before. It is really a subtle thing, though, and you won't notice it unless you are really staring. 7. This is in "true" widescreen...none of that faked stuff that you find by less reputable DVD makers. Also, the picture quality is better than I've ever seen it before. 8. There is some memorabilia included here, but unfortunately the print on most of it is too small to read. So you'll probably shuffle through that pretty quickly. All in all, dollar for dollar, this is one of the best DVDs I've ever bought. Beyond the movie, there is enough good stuff on here to keep you laughing for hours. No kidding.

Summary: The Best Movie of All Time.
Review: I can't remember the first time I watched this movie, but I remember wearing out the video tape. I realized that it was time for the thing to go. I bought the edition of the DVD where there was only one DVD. I just wanted the movie. I love the movie, I have it memorized. There's not a week that goes by, that I don't findmyself quoting it. It's worth the money, believe me.

Review: Monty Python and the Holy Grail is in my opinion one of the funniest movies of all time. I recently took my daughter to see a re-release and she liked it too. You have to have a twisted sense of humor to really enjoy it. I saw it when it first came out. That was a few years ago. The Black Knight scene is probably one of the most bizzare pieces of film in existence. "Your arm's off, you stupid b(...)". "No, it isn't, it's only a flesh wound. I've 'ad worse. Come on you, pansy".

Summary: HILARIOUS
Review: one of the funniest movies ever!! From the shrubbery, to the European swallow, to the witch, to the coconuts, to Brave Sir Robin and his annoying minstrel, to the French guy, to Zoot and her friends...it's just a laugh a minute. Probably best for older kids cause younger kids wouldn't really get most of the jokes. Not inappropriate, though.

Summary: We're the Knights of the Round Table!
Review: This movie is my favorite comedy movie, and possiby my favorite movie in any existing genre. This is one of the many "cult movies" that has people sitting around together for hours at a time, reciting their favorite quotes and nit-picking each other on single words. Each part of this movie is famous. Even if entirely uninterested in this type of film, it's a good movie to see, just so that you can say you're seen it in future conversations: it's a classic. From the very first bit of dialogue in the movie, I was hooked. It opened with this fantastic scene in which Arthur and the rest of his knights were riding horseback - without horses. This may not sound funny when I describe it, but simply looking at their solumn faces as they "dismounted" already had me laughing. My favorite part of this movie is difficult to come up with, but I think the Sir Robin song is one of the funniest things I've ever listened to; the "Ni!" scene was one of the funniest things I've ever seen on a screen. It's long, so I would recommend seeing it in fragments. You want to be able to focus the whole time. This is not worth missing a word of.
