Rating: Summary: The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas Review: "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" is an ok adaptation of the Broadway musical. The film ended up ranking amoung the top ten grossing films of 1982 and is enjoyable. The DVD is widescreen with a colorful and clean print, but the sound is Mono. The original film opened in New York with 4 Track Mag prints, but all video releases where mono (even though some incorrectly listed stereo on the cover) Since this is a Dolly Parton film/and a musical it would seem natural to release the stereo print. (Especially since the song "I Will Always Love You" has been a hit for over three decades by Both Dolly Parton and Whitney Houston) DVD also includes a trailer, 2 minutes of flubbed outtake lines, plus a very brief making of featurette. Over 30 minutes of film were cut from the Director's print including two musical numbers by Dolly Parton ( "A Gamble Either Way", and "Stallions Ways" both of which appeared on Parton's "Burlap and Stain" LP) and a whole subplot involving the hiring of a "shy" girl (Andrea Pike) who grows into a woman during the course of the film. Also smaller roles from the Broadway show were cut, included the abbreviated role of "Angel" (Played by Valerie Leigh Bilxer) the whore who wants to see her little boy for Christmas, and other scenes involving Dolly and the whorehouse girls. Longer cuts of the big musical numbers also exit ("The Aggie Song", "20 Fans" and "Little Bitty Pissant Country Place") All of these would make for a pretty good Special Edition. The film is fun, but could have been much better. Parton shines when ever she's on screen, Reynold is best in the second half of the film during the more serious/emotional moments. Not bad for a budget priced DVD.

Rating: Summary: if dolly had really worked there ... Review: ...it would have been the best in the world! holy cow does she fill out a teddy. anyway, this movie is fun fun fun. you have burt reynolds in tiny underwear singing about cheerios, there's dom deluise in a corset and a beatles wig stuffing socks down his way too tight pants, and there's dolly running the brothel - singin songs, wearin teddy's and drinking beer. there's also a scene where thirty or so young semi-nude guys dance around a locker room singing about how much they like women. so i guess there's something here for everyone!
Rating: Summary: If you like Dolly's chest, you'll like this! Review: Although the movie has a pretty cheesy plot as well as acting, there are some fabulous cleavage shots of Dolly! I've searched high and low for movies featuring naked Dolly, but they just don't exist. So you'll have to settle for this! Please Dolly, you got some of the most beautiful bazoombas in Hollywood. Share 'em with us!
Rating: Summary: Politics MAke Strange Bed Fellows... Review: At first glance, this is a silly little musical with no real value. Yes it has catchy tunes, yes it has a silly romance, and yes it has silly production numbers. But unlike most musicals, this film has multi-layers. One layer is pure sugar musical. The film also has real good chemistry between Renyolds and Parton. They both look like they really enjoyed making this film, and they both seemed to have enjoyed each other. This makes the film work at the very basic level. There is even a touching moment when Dolly sings "I'll Always Love You" to Burt. It is believable, or at least you want to believe. But after watching this film so close to the election I also noticed the second layer. A more in depth layer concerning politics, the media and how the media presents the truth. It's a biting satire, quite timely and extremely funny. Look for Charles Durning's scene stealing governor. This film is sharp and entertaining. A rare treasure in a musical from the 80s.
Rating: Summary: very good Review: cant rember the show wel
Rating: Summary: Worth it just for... Review: Charles Durning - a spellblindingly brilliant turn as the Governor - that not only steals the show but fully deserves to mentioned in all those "best moments from the movies" polls. No matter how many times you'll watch him I guarantee that you'll wind up smiling everytime. Classic.
Rating: Summary: IT'S A JAPENESE SLING SHOT! Review: Dolly and Burt were great! This is a film that everyone needs to see! A great love story wrapped around some history ,too.
