Summary: WOW!
Review: This is such a good movie. It has a great combination of laughter, happiness and sorrow all packed in one. It also has a bit of history in it. I watched it with subtitles and after about 10 minutes of reading I totally forgot I was even reading it because the movie just pulled you in. I highly recommend this movie. If you want a sad movie that isn't a downer this is one for you. It's great.

Summary: Not even close
Review: in temrs of what expectations from foregin films are, this one falls short. I no way does life is beatiufl(or any other film in that matter) come close to the emtionaly powerful films of Ingmar Bergman or Andrei Tarkovsky, In one way is it as haunting as any of werner herzog's jungle headtrips. And it of course lacks the dpeht of Kubricks films. This wasnt even the best foregin film of that year. The only reason this "film"( I use that term lightly since this is more or less an B.S. show seinfeldesque show in extend play) is becaues miramax went on a five millon dollar add campine which bought off critics( yhea sisko ebert, lyons and maltin and shalit all come with price tags, mirmax will only pony up the money to buy them ) and had the audience beliving only second had info. The only reason anyone liked this movie is becuaes of the cutes they got from the kid and the wife and beingi ape jim carrey or jim carrey aping beingig( who cares they cant act or be funny aways .

Summary: Beautiful
Review: I really loved this film. I think it is truely a masterpiece. Fist, for me it was easy to watch without ever feeling bored. Second,it depicts more than just a love between father and son. It is a way of living, a way of viewing this precious thing called life. We often forget this. We forget that we have only one life and we should note how beautiful it is while we can. We raise artificial barriers all over the place when they don't always exist. For example when I first saw Guido he looked like one of those strange half-idiotic people that no one really likes. But this is not the case. He is just one of those people who have not forgotten the way he looked at life when he was a child. He didn't do anything too strange or extra funny, he just was himself. And he was lucky that he met the right woman who understood this. The second part is really sad, because now we know what precious person he is and we see that he has to die. Why? Because this is an idiotic world. A world full of hatred without reason, of people who prefer to hurt and kill rather than make the effort to be good. This is how we loose the beautiful - in wars, in violence, going along one set path, following others and not leading. For me this film is not a romantic comedy, it is the real life - with its happy moments, with farse and absurd and with unwanted tragedy. But we have to see it with the hope that we will make it better.

Summary: Life is Beautiful is Beautiful
Review: Life is Beautiful is one of the most fun, beautiful, and ultimately heart-wrenching movies ever. Although not exactly an accurate rendition of the horrors of the concentration and work camps, that's not really the point of this movie. The human condition is. I don't want to spoil this movie for anyone or give you all preconceived notions about it, so suffice it to say this --

BUY THE SUBTITLED...You lose a lot of emotion, energy and beauty with the dubbed, so if you don't understand italian, definately buy the subtitled.

Summary: Amazing movie even for subtitle haters.
Review: I am usually scared off by subtitles, but this film is fun, disturbing, warm and frightening all at the same time. I recommend NOT getting the dubbed version, it takes away from the films authenticity and message. The subtitles are are easy to deal with. If I could, I would give it 20 stars. Brovo, Roberto!

Summary: Good but waaaaaaaay overrated
Review: Well-intentioned, warm, funny film that never quite pulls the two halves of itself together--the comic fairy tale and the (sanitized) Nazi camp in the second half work like oil and water, and though Benigni tries--valiantly--he can't quite pull it off. One wonders if the film might have worked better had his son known the father was faking, and was going along to indulge him; then, the subtext might have gelled into something stronger. And the "happy" ending will strike a dischordant note with many. Still, it's almost impossible to criticize a film which so many have clutched to their hearts as a life-altering experience--you go with it, or you don't, period. As it is, it's a brave attempt at a different perspective on the war, but no way does it belong in the same breath as "Schindler's List"--to say nothing of "Saving Private Ryan" and "Shakespeare in Love," which snatched up some of its Oscars (deservedly).

Summary: This Movie Has Two Parts To It.
Review: This was a good movie in the first half as comedy and the underlying plot was beginning to unfold. I had a sense of time and place as to where the story was taking place. It was funny and honest but then all of a sudden Benigni is sent to the concentration prison camp with his son and wife to serve the German Nazi's causes and be killed at their expense. When I was watching this film, I didn't know what to make of the second half. It was supposed to be a serious subject being in prison and working for the Nazis in WWII. What I found in the second half, was that the subject matter was not there for laughter as Benigni's character did. It was meant for seriousness of how humans; how grey the circumstances may be; survive the best they could. Benigni was making fun of the situation when in all it was not supposed to be funny. The first half was great just as I thought the story was about. When watching the second half, I didn't know whether to laugh or not when watching the character's actions. In all a good movie but would have liked it even more if it was all comedy that didn't have a serious subject matter.

Summary: LIFE IS MUCH MORE BEAUTIFUL AFTER WATCHING THIS
Review: I was at first very undecided about watching this movie, because I had to read the spoken parts throughout. After watching about the first 3 minutes of this movie, it was absolutly no hinderence on me at all. Actually in a way you had to pay more attention to this movie. However, paying attention to this movie was no problem. Roberto was great. He really does an EXCELLENT job throughout this movie. So does his wife in this movie. There are many parts throughout this movie that are very very sad, however this is the underlying humor and love for this child that you can sense throughout this movie. This is a MUST WATCH MOVIE. I would reccomend this movie to anyone and everyone.
