Summary: Back when Macaulay was cute!
Review: I own this video. Even though I've not seen it for quite a while as of this writing, the movie is still frozen solid in the funny catrgory. When I first saw the film, I saw Kevin grow up rather quickly, and he even had grown-up ideas (like when he looks at his brother's Playboy and finds it "disgusting"). He also learns the value of money, and of course, personal hygiene (the most famous scene in the film). Of course, nothing is more daring than his fighting his fear of the furnace, and how he battles the burglars! By the way, I think scientific studies show that Harry and Marv would be severely disabled by now. Anyway, put it away and show it to your kids at Christmas. They'll love it!

Review: Home Alone is one of the best children's comedys of all time. But it's not just for kids, grown ups can enjoy it too. It stars Macauly Culkin (Uncle Buck), and Joe Pesci. It's really a good movie. It doesn't come on TV alot so if you won't to record it you'll have to wait until around Christmas. But I think it's a buy.

Second grader Kevin McCalister(Macaulay Culkin) is having a REALLY bad day.
His family(including cousins, Aunt and Uncle) is getting ready to leave on a Christmas vacation to Paris. There's lots of activity, he is the youngest. He feel's picked on(and he is),and brushed aside. He has to actually do things for himself, unheard of in his 8 yr old world.His older brother scares him with stories of the neighbor being "The Shovel Murderer". He wishes they would all "JUST GO AWAY".
The next morning he awakes to discover his wish came true. Jubilant he immediatly preceeds to do all the things he's not allowed to. Meanwhile, halfway across "The Pond", to Paris, his parents make the grim discovery that they have accidentally left him behind. Panic sets in! With the feeling of worry and guilt only known to parents, his mom(Catherine O'Hara) makes a hasty retreat back to the states, hitting road blocks all the way.
Kevin settles in to life alone, waivering between being a kid and the responiblities of the household chores.Lurking around his house though, are two bumbling cat burglers(Joe Pesci/Daniel Stern).Kevin must protect his domain. He goes about setting his plan into motion,using whatever available means to thwart the bad guys.He also gets a little help from a surprise source. What follows is very funny, kind of three stooges action, as the burglers fall into every trap he sets for them. Kevin learns several lessons in his time alone. One is that he really loves his family,that he can take care of himself, and not to judge others.
The music by John Williams,including lots of seasonal classics, will leave you singing Christmas songs, whatever time of year you watch it. Directed By Chris Columbus who really makes you root for the good guys. The supporting cast includes,John Heard, Roberts Blossom, and Hilary Wolfe.Look for the wonderful John Candy as "The Polka King".
"Home Alone" will have you laughing throughout.It is a funny,sometimes poignant story, that will be enjoyed year after year by the whole family. There are 2 sequels,the first has most of the same cast returning to do it again, this time in New York City!
The VHS has a very good picture. It is in Dolby Surround Stereo,(nice for the soundtrack).

Review: Even a cynical show like "Seinfield" recognized the warm-hearted charms of "Home Alone." In November 1990, "Home Alone" entered movie theaters with little fanfare. Most movie critics dismissed it as just another John Hughes' produced lightweight comedy, which would be quickly forgotten. However, when "Home Alone" finally left theaters months later it was as one of the all time box office champs. How did this happen? Intitially, audience good word of mouth kept the box office receipts rising. Eventually, the studio, realizing it had monster hit on its hands, finally threw its promotional weight behind the movie. As a result, "Home Alone" was the #1 movie for an unbelievable 12 weeks! Eight year old Kevin McAllister (Macauley Culkin) is fed up with being picked on by his older siblings and then being either ignored or scolded by his parents. Things really get out of hand when his home is overrun by his Uncle Frank's family in prepartion of a joint family trip to Paris for the Christmas holidays. Kevin, sick of being ignored by everyone, finally loses his temper, throws a fit, and, as a punishment, is sent to the attic to sleep by himself. Angered by the injustice of his punishment, Kevin tells his mother (Catherine O'Hara) that he hoped that he would never see his family again! Later, he sullenly wishes that his family would just "disappear." The next morning Kevin awakes to discover that his family has disappeared and he is alone in his family's big house. Of course, Kevin's family really didn't really disappear, but due to a number of chaotic circumstances they forget about him until they are already on the flight to Paris. With the phone lines down and all the neighbors out of town, Kevin's family has no way of contacting him. Thus, Kevin is convinced that he has wished away his family and initially he revels in his independence. However, as time passes he starts to realize that he really does miss his family. But as he pines for their return (his frantic mother is doing everything to get home), he takes care of himself, befriends a mysterious, elderly neighbor (Roberts Blossom), and protects his home from the "Wet Bandits." The Wet Bandits are a pair of bumbling, not-too-bright house burglars (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) who have targetted Kevin's neighborhood and Kevin's home in particular for their heists. Unfortunately, for the Wet Bandits they've picked the wrong eight year old to mess around with. "Home Alone" is best remembered for the slapstick comedy which results when the Wet Bandits attempt to overcome Kevin's house of booby traps. But it's remarkable box office success had alot to do with the film's genuine warm-heartedness. The touching scenes of Kevin with his elderly neighbor are very well done as are O'Hara's scenes with her ex-SCTV co-star John Candy, who makes an extended cameo as the leader of a polka band. And the ending shot is sure to tug at the most cynical heartstring- just ask George Costanza. "Home Alone's" comedic scenes are hysterically funny, but by themselves don't explain why this movie became such a sensation. It was the combination of a winning performance by Culkin, the comic timing of Pesci and Stern, and the entire movie's aura as a warm-hearted, feel good, Christmas picture that helped make this film a box office dynamo.

Summary: Great holiday movie!
Review: At least 30 time have I watched this movie without getting bored once. Kevin is left home alone when the family takes a trip to a boring place, and it's up to his mom to get home to be with him after the mean things that happen to him. But he must fight 2 burglars to save his home. After he catches on to the plan, he's fully secured. Alot of addictive touches are added to this movie like the guy next door, thye fighting of the criminals, and the holiday area. And if you like this film, the sequel to it will be one of your favorites, too, but ignore the third. Great family film!

Review: I love to watch this movie around Christmas. While not technically a "Christmas Movie" it does take place during the holiday season. The robbers are a little too over the top for my adult taste but after all the movie is targeted to kids so I can over look that.

Summary: A good comedy though a bit childish and predictable.
Review: Home Alone, staring Macaulay Culkin (Home Alone 2) and directed by Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone), is a childish movie. A very childish movie. One that succeeds in entertaining but something that you enjoy as a little kid and laugh at when you're an adult. Even the concept of the movie is dumb. Like I said, it is not funny, it's just entertaining. Let me tell you something comedy fans: Seeing adults being destroyed by a ten year old child does not sound so "realistic" to me. Otherwise, it's a pure treat for the whole family. Home Alone tells the story of Kevin McCallister, a ten year old boy who finds that his parents accidentally left him behind during their trip. Just when he starts to celebrate, he discovers that the Wet Bandits (Joe Pesci, Goodfellas, and Daniel Stern, Bushwhacked), a group of robbers, are in his neighborhood. After seeing numerous wanted reports on TV, Kevin decides to take on the Wet Bandits. The last twenty minutes of the movie shows us the colossal battle between Kevin and the Wet Bandits. Since this is a children's movie, the children always win and that's what makes this movie way too predictable. Despite the Wet Bandit's stupidity, Home Alone will not disappoint. Kids surely will enjoy it but parents, I suggest you slowly sneak out of the room. Besides, there's nothing really violent in the film except the fight between Kevin and the bandits though it doesn't even include one drop of blood. I think movie is loved by kids not because of it's actors but because of the violence. Kids today hardly ever see a red-blooded R-rated action movie and this is like a free ticket to seeing people getting beat up. Especially by a kid. What also disappoints me about the movie is that Macaulay Culkin overpowers the adults and bandits in intelligence. Several plans, such as Culkin setting up a room of cardboard figures to confuse the robbers, is simply not believable and a normal child could not possible make up these ideas. This was not a screenplay meant for John Hughes but oh well. The performances are satisfying but not excellent and the script is OK. Overall, 3 stars. Movie: Home Alone

Summary: Even after 10 years I never get tired of watching this movie
Review: Home alone is a great family film to watch. I've watched this movie since I was 4 and I am now 14 and I still laugh at it. Macaulay Culkin does wonderful job portraying an 8 year old boy who is accidently left alone in his home by his family and also protecting his home from 2 criminals (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) by setting up mischivous contraptions that cause horrible pain! Although Culkin's acting career has not been doing so well these days,his early movies like this one is something you will love.
Anyway, the story starts off with a family known as the McCallisters getting ready to go on a vacation. At dinner, the youngest child, Kevin (Culkin)creates a big mess in the kitchen (After getting anoid by his brother) and is punished to sleep in the attic. Because of that,kevin wishes his family would just dissapear.but coensidently a storm comes in the middle of the night and takes out the electricity causing the alarm clocks to go out. The family over sleeps and then rushes to get ready when they realize they are behind scedule and are on the verge of missing their flight. With all the hurrying and a miss count, the family goes on vacation not knowing they left kevin behind. Kevin on the other hand wakes up and sees that there is nobody there and assumes that his wish came true. Kevin automatically goes wild and does things he would need permission to do. But Kevin's fun isn't going as well as he thought, 2 crooks by the name of Marve(Stern) and Harry (Pesci)want to robb his home. Kevin does what he can to make it look like there are people in his home but Marve and Harry smell something fishy because they know the McCallister family went on vacation. Eventually the crooks realize that they were just being outsmarted by a little kid who is home alone and decide that the next time they come, nothing will stop them. Kevin knows this is bad news for him and wishes his family would come back. To protect his home, Kevin builds wild contraption that anybody laugh. These contraptions show dumb robbers can be.
Anybody who sees this movie for the first time will laugh their heads off. Although a little boy trying to take out two crooks is totally impossible, Home Alone is a really great family film that shows that what you wish for may not be something you want. This movie is appropriate for all ages so If I were you I'd by this movie and watch with my family because it will be something they will enjoy.

Summary: 1990 Comedy.
Review: This was a pretty funny 1990 comedy starring Macaulay Culkin and Catherine O'Hara even though it was pretty far fetch. I mean how could she forget her son especially since he got into trouble the night before. I could not stand the uncle he was a jerk and they let him get away with that? This movie released in 1990 made 285 million dollars and spawned two sequels. Unfortunatly for Culkin his career was typecasted by this movie. I recommend this movie but it is a little out there if you know what I mean.
