Summary: Plot, Performance, Pixar--It's a Must See
Review: The City of Mostropolis has a big problem. Its energy source, the screams of children scared by thier stable of "scream-makers", is growing ever scarcer. Not only are fewer kids scared at all of monsters under the bed or in the closet, when they do actually get scared, they don't get very scared, and their screams no longer have the potency they once had. For a city that runs on scream power, this is a big deal. Enter our heroes, Sully and Mike (played convincingly by John Goodman and Billy Crystal), the leading scream-producing team at Monsters, Inc., the power generating company of Monstropolis. The plot--how will our heroes save Monstroplois?--plays itself out through a series of clever and innovative contraptions worked out with a supporting cast which ranges from the essence of adorable (Boo, the "toxic human child") to the nadir of nastiness (Randall, the criminal chamelion). There's even a bit of obligatory big-corporate criminality thrown in for good measure.Weaving this world of complex characterizations and compelling contraptions into the fabric of fable is the incomparable animation artistry and movie-making genius of Pixar. As they did in their other three hits, Toy Story 1&2 and A Bug's Life, Pixar has morphed the meaning of "computer generated" to another dimension--this is cinema at its best; that it is "animated" through a myriad of techniques is both incidental to and inseparable from the experience and enjoyment of the film. But at the final remove, Monsters, Inc. is a story told exceedingly well. Imagine this for a recipe:
A thoroughly engaging plot with characters who show courage and strength in the face of evil and ostracism, exciting scenes of daring and action-reaction-reversal worthy of any adventure epic, a score that enhances the on-screen material while not calling attention to itself, a cast that brilliantly plays its characters and resists the temptation (a la Jim Carrey in "The Grinch") to make their roles extensions of their own celebrity, and a "virtual" world so rendered as to make it seem completely real, again, not calling attention to itself, but whose ultimate genius is that it so fully captivates that the viewer is not aware of its "virtualiy" at all. Story, characterization, execution--brilliance! Oh, and did I mention that it's big fun? Well, it's also BIG FUN! Go, see and enjoy!

Summary: Great film without Character Substance
Review: Monsters Inc. is a very good, very funny, very flawed film. If there is one praise that I can give the Pixar family, however, it is that they have by far exceded my expectations for an action film. Monsters Inc is practically non-stop action from the very beginning to the very end--true, the adventure is a ruckus ride that stems from an innocent infant, but that doesn't make it any less fun. Where this overabundance of Adventure becomes a fault, though, is when you near the midway or end of the film and realize that you don't yet know anything about the characters; Sully seems like nothing more than a workaholic, Mike does too, though there is a downplayed romance in the film. The fact is, though, that what little we do know about the characters does not indicate that they ARE workaholics; the script just unevenly balances their work life above their home life. Of course, there is nothing to complain about concerning animation. I find that even though it adorns a more cartoony style of presentation, I'm closer to believing and asserting the reality of these creatures than those in another computer animated film, Final Fantasy. And regardless of how it limits the character development, the no-holds-barred adventure really works in a lot of ways without becoming tedious, boring, or tiring out the audience from the nonstop pace. In short, Monsters Inc. is an exceptional film by excellent filmmakers, only this time around they've neglected one of the more important aspects that might attract viewer emotion. Otherwise, this film is a great picture that deserves your audience. It's fun, well-animated, and a wild ride through a crazy world.

Summary: A Superb Movie, Even for an Adult Male!
Review: The little girl in this is absolutely adorable, and this is coming from a guy... :) I loved Shrek, but I think this is so much better. With everything going on in the world, this is a movie that really hits home - you're able to forget about the world and just laugh and grow attached to the characters... at times they seem almost human. Its a wonderful movie that I suggest everyone watch.

Summary: Another Great from Disney & PIXAR
Review: Monsters, Inc. is a superb movie, filled with all the great characters, comedy, and CGA that the movie-going audience has come to expect from the greatest duo to produce computerized movies, Walt Disney Productions and PIXAR. It gives the audience a lot to enjoy, with very little in the way of detractors. The movie centers around two monsters, James P. Sullivan, AKA, "Sully," and his best friend, roommate, and Scare Assistant, Mike Wazowski and their adventures with a genuine child, who has been set loose in Monstropolis and Monsters, Inc. Together, they protect the child and bring her back home safely, all the time having great adventures and misadventures. I must say that I was thouroughly impressed with this film. The graphics were stunning, especially the faces of the children. Anyone who has seen the original Toy Story will understand just how far this technology has come. The story was very well told, with the pace only lacking in a few short sequences. The characters were very well done, both by their voice talents and in their computer-created appearences. This was a movie with something for everybody: children, adults, heck, even teenagers can see this movie and find something in it especially for them. Like all of PIXAR's films, you really have to see it at least twice, not only to enjoy the main production again, but to look and listen for things that you may not have noticed the first time around. Monsters, Inc. runs rampant with sight gags, witty lines, and those little add-ins that are PIXAR's inside jokes. As an example, the PIXAR Desk Lamp and Star Ball both make cameo appearences in the movie. However, unlike previous PIXAR films such as A Bug's Life, this movie did not include any outtakes that made audiences stay in their seats during the credits, to the general consternation of the theater employees. Speaking of cameos, anyone who has seen either Toy Story should surely recognize the voice of the Abominable Snowman. Can you guess who it is? Also, there is a short before the movie and it is hilarious. I hope that when the release version comes out, the short will be included, just as Gerry's Game was with A Bugs Life. Trust me, once you see it, you'll know why. All in all, this was a fantastic story and a wonderful movie. Everybody with kids or parents should go see this film to understand just how monster's feel about us.

Summary: Our whole family loved it!
Review: We just returned from seing Monsters, Inc. with ur 6 year old daughter and our 4 year old son. It is difficult to find movies that will keep both of their attention, be non-violent and also
enjoyable for us, the parents. The creators of Toy Story, another
family favorite, have definelely done it again. The four of us
spent the remainder of the night talking about all of our favorite parts and therewere many! A must for families!

Summary: Monsters, Inc.
Review: I am a 42 year old father and I was probably more excited to go see Monsters, Inc. than my six year old daughter. Neither of us was disappointed. The story is well crafted, the characters lovable (even the evil ones), and the animation excellant. My friend brought his two daughters as well. His two year old was slightly upset when the baddies started to get the upper hand, but as my daughter says, "Goodies always win and baddies always lose."

Summary: A delightful movie
Review: My 10 & 5 1/2 year-olds LOVED this movie. It was witty, thoughtful, and fun. It is a good movie about friendship and caring, I especially liked the how Mike & Sully stuck together as friends no matter what. My daughted liked Boo, there should be more items geared towards her character alone. Bravo Disney for this refreshing and delightful movie at this dificult time.

Review: Wonderful movie for the kids as well as the adults. For those techno junkies out there, the animations are the BEST I've ever seen. Just watch the hair/fur on Sully. Very funny, and not to scarry for the little ones. It really shows how important relationships are. A must see!

Summary: Monsters STINK!!!!
Review: Have you ever seen a movie where after the first twenty minuets you know it 's gonna be a long ride home. That's how I felt about Disney's Monster's Inc. Sure, the Animation was out of this world but the story line stunk like Monster poo. I think Disney is on a downword spiral. I miss movies like the Little Mermaid, Aladin, and Beauty and the Beast. These movies were not only beatiful to watch but captivated you with the storyline. If your a die hard Disney or 3D Animation fan see it. But realize that after you oooww and ahhhhh over the animation. You'll be oooowwing and AHHHHHHHHHHing!!! to leave. Perhaps they should change the name from Monsters INK to MONSTERS STINK!!!
