Summary: Where "The Incredibles" gets its groovy.
Review: I just saw "The Incredible's" last night and could not believe the tremendous similarities to this movie. They clearly paid homage to this classic. "Mad Monster Party," appeals to children and adults on different levels. I've watched it many times over the years, starting out at age 6. I think my favorite thing is that everyone constantly double crosses everyone else, it's priceless. The monsters are petty, jealous, diabolic, and petulant. They are so bad that they are almost human!

Phyllis Diller shines in her role as the bride of Frankenstein. She is wickedly over the top with a cattiness that would put a drag queen to shame. This movie is dark comedy at its best, definitely reccomended.

Summary: WOW! I'm so glad they reissued this on DVD!
Review: It's fantastic! As a child of the 70s, I fondly remember watching this every year on TV (although the strange thing was they always played it closer to Thanksgiving? What was up with that!)

Someone actually purchased a VHS copy for me as a wedding present in 1993 and while I was so taken by the gesture, I was bummed about the quality; nevertheless, seeing this on DVD is just incredible!

I love all of the Rankin and Bass shows, but this one is my favorite.

Summary: My Kind Of Party!
Review: It's party time, and you're invited to the island of evil to spend an evening with Baron Von Frankenstein (Boris Karloff), his lovely assistant Francesca, The monster & his mate (Phyllis Diller), Dracula, the wolfman, the mummy, the creature, the invisible man, the hunchback of Notre Dame, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, a host of zombies, and the Baron's nephew, Felix Flanken (who looks sort of like Al Franken w/ red hair). This is no ordinary beasty bash. You see, the Baron has just discovered the means of ultimate destruction in his lab! He now seeks to pass it on to his successor (Felix), so he can retire from the monster biz. Unfortunately, there is treachery afoot! Plots and alliances are made in order to get the Baron's formula. Also, a party-crasher is on it's way in the form of a certain 50-ton gorilla! MMP is loads of fun for all ages, especially geared toward us monster nuts! The little stuff, like the man-eating plants, the blob in it's "doghouse", the message bats, etc. are great too. A must for all monster freaks! Highly recommended...

Summary: LOST CHILDHOOD
Review: I have mixed feelings about this movie. Like everyone else I remember seeing this as a kid, but I only saw the last 15 minutes. I was mezmerized by it and for some years always searched for it on TV. It was my white whale. I never did see it until I purchased this DVD.

The quality is terrific. The colors are vivid and the image is crystal clear. There are great extras, a thick booklet and some monster cards. This is a bargain. An absolute steal.

Having said all this I was sorta disappointed in the movie. The story is just O.K., but nothing special. After all these years I guess I just expected to be blown away or have it rekindle memories. I still give it 5 stars, but I did not find my childhood in it.

My advice is that if this movie was special to you when you were a kid either don't purchase or buy it knowing it will not be as good as you remember.
