Summary: Title Says It All! - DVD gets you wet and then heats you up!
Review: Like lots of other reviewers, I also pi__ed and cr___ed my pants all the way through this movie - but it wasn't caused by uncontrollable laughter. I just did it so I would have something to think about during all the boring/unbelievable parts. Come on! I went to camp in 1980 and I never saw any of this kind of stuff goin' on. If I was reviewing the theatrical release I would have to say one star (seriously folks) but the DVD has the cut scene where Janeane's top comes off - always a "plus four stars" moment in this reviewer's rule book. I know it's kind of arbitrary but hey, that guy from Hawley, PA gave it one star just because he thinks some kid from the next town over (Honesdale, PA) who was an extra in the movie didn't run through the woods the "right" way.

Summary: Loved it in the Theatre's, and the DVD is better!
Review: I loved the "State" on MTV, and I think this movie is just as good.

Lots of goofy and intelligent comedy, and I hope David Wain and Michael Schowalter get a chance to create another movie soon. I think the "going into town" and "humping the fridge" were hysterical! Basically, I can see where people didn't get this movie, but I found this to be an intelligent spoof, while still being its own movie! I loved it, and highly recommend it!

Summary: One Wet, Un-Hot, Non-American, Summer Bummer
Review: Wet Hot American Summer which was dilmed in Honesdale, Pa which is right next to where I live, hawley, Pa, was horrible. I had been waiting all summer to see it because my cousin was the water skier that drowns. But this movie just stunk. The actors performances were weak and completely corny. The extras that were from Honesdale did a horrible job talking and acting. The one kid couldn't even run through the woods. They also have a very violent drug scene which was so dumb its beyond imagination. The movie had some funny parts but nothing to have a belly laugh over. I also dont understand way critics form Entertainment Weekley gave it a A. It doesn't even deserve an F!!! So don't go and waste your hard earned cash on this summer bummer. Go out and rent a movie that at least has one good actor in it.

Summary: Hilarious! Not just for fans of The State
Review: I went to see this movie just because I was such a huge fan of The State when it was on TV. What a great surprise! I laughed from beginning to end.

Summary: Good stuff
Review: One of the better comedies I've seen in awhile. Very smart. If you grew up on the 80s camp comedies and get the tongue-in-cheek humor, you'll love this. If, like some others voicing their opinions here, you take it literally, well, sorry to say, you'll be another "One Star Reviewer" scratching your head.

Summary: HILARIOUS!!!!!!
Review: if you bashed this movie, i don't know what's wrong with you. how could you not find this movie funny? if you didn't like this movie, you can't possibly be a fan of comedy. this movie is great! ignore all reviews bashing this movie, they don't know what they're talkin about. Gene is by far the best character, loved it!

Summary: One of THE most underrated movies of 2001!
Review: I had heard good things about this movie when it was at Sundance, but it seemed bypass the Chicago are almost entirely. So I rented the DVD, and this movie was hilarious. It's a shame that movies like American Pie 2 and Dung Pow (or whatever that awful-looking Martial Arts movie is called) are considered 'daring' and 'edgy' because of a few gross-out gags and little else. This movie was edgier and more daring than any comedy I've seen since the classic "Where's Poppa". It is most simply a parody of early 80's summer camp flicks, but it also has a bizarre, absurdist genius to it all it's own. Not every gag works, but it has enough unforgettable lines and sequences to ensure it's eventual evolution into true cult classic. The cast is all great, but the best is Chris Melloni (of Oz and Law & Order SVU) who is freakishly hilarious in his role as the camp cook. You don't just have to be a fan of MTV's the State to enjoy this as I have never seen the show. This film won't be for everyone, but I have a feeling that a lot of reviewers who hate the film are missing the fact that this isn't just a by-the-numbers parody like Scary Movie and even lesser pieces of garbage. It is more of a masterpiece of genuine insanity that I really believe will gain favour as the years pass. Along with Jack Nicholson's The Pledge (as different a film from this as you can get) this is truly one of the films that got away in 2001. Don't miss your chance now (and be sure to check out the deleted scenes; Melloni has some great bits that shouldn't have been cut).

Summary: Watch it 3 times before judging
Review: Let me start off - I am a HUGE State fan. I get their humor. I knew exactly what I was looking for in this movie. The scene with the motorcycle and the stack of hay -- totally 100% State humor. If you didn't get it, watch a few episodes of the State. It's the small things like that these guys do best.

What's so brilliant about this movie is that they never go and actually spoof a movie ala flicks like Scary Movie and NATM. Yet rather they nail the scenarios and totally reinvent them thru the brains of Wain and Showalter. Another classic scene is the trip into town. I was laughing so hard I cried. 100% recommended for the State. If you don't get it, you're just not in on the joke.

Be sure to check out the deleted scenes on the DVD. It's a shame they didn't make it in the final cut -- especially the dialogue between Wain and Kerri Kinney at the river!

Summary: Absolutely Histerical
Review: I see a lot of dissapointed reviews here and I too must say, that people who didn't think this movie was funny didn't get it. I saw this in Boston last September and I almost simultaneously (...) and (...) my pants from laughing so hard. The humor is very out there, meaning it takes a blend of maturity and immaturity in a person to fully appreciate it. The way all the actors say the dialogue and the way the scenes play out, make it so absurd that it's funny. I keep showing this movie to more people and everyone loves it and thinks it's either the funniest movie they've ever seen or on their top 10 funny movies. This movie came out the same day as American Pie 2. I bought both of them and with 5 friends we watched them both in a row. After watching them both, we had Wet Hot American Summer parts still in our head and because we kept laughing about the movie still, we put it in again to watch it some more. This movie is funnier than American Pie 2 and many other comedies. I hope they make a sequel to this movie, which they easily could, or make another comedy about anything, cause it'll be hilarious. If you're still drawn back by some of the negative comments on this movie, at least rent it. It'll be worth your time to at least watch it and then know for sure you must own it too.
